I had the privilege of flying at low altitude over South Pass on a wild cross country trip in a tiny Cessna. It was a very moving experience to see the wagon ruts still visible on the earth, highlighted by a light windblown dusting of snow. We pulled off a hair raising full rudder crosswind landing at Canyonlands Field later that day outside Moab, Utah, after flying over the great canyon of the Green River. A very memorable day of my life.
@GyroscopeProductions sorry...homeschooler. I home school a 12 year old boy.:) He had a severe bullying problem at school, and the school was not helping, so he got taken out and is going back in the 8th grade to a different school. I came across this video when we were discussing the trail.
Having done extensive research about the Oregon Trail for my novel, Trail To Destiny, I applaud this videographer for a well-described history lesson about our western pioneers.
In this modern day of man sometimes we forget who cut and' blazed the trails that bult America and all their hardships they went through. This is a great video of the women and' men and Children that lived' HOW THE WEST WAS WON.
Lots of settlers shared large segments of the westward trails. The California trail doesn't seperate from the main Oregon trail until the Snake river.
Thank you for this! We are studying Oregon now.

Very good! Most of us have become such blobs we would give up after one day on a journey like that.

One question.. Why call it the Oregon trail if, as you stated, they were heading to California?
