Anyone please clarify for me?.....at the end you find out that the central character doesn't have a memory loss problem, that he remembers everything and just acts that way as a way of dealing with the trauma of his wife's death?

no, he actually has a memory loss problem. remember the ending of the movie, is actually only the middle of the story so hes obviously forgotten everything

He does have the memory loss problem, but i think he found out (before the movie) that he killed his own (diabetic) wife with insuline shots and couldnt deal with it so he destroyed some pages of the police report and started hunting a imaginary killer to give his life more purpose, because of the memory thing he wouldnt remember that he had set himself up

yes, I agree 100% about Joe Pantaliano, but the same goes for the entire cast. This was easily the Best Film of that year, no question............but why wasn't it given an Oscar nomination??
