@amtrakboy37 Thanks. I "played" the drums as MIDI, then had my friend Ed Dzubak mime the drumming for the video. I had planned to mime the drumming myself, then realized I'm not a good enough drummer to do even that. :-)
@EthanWiner Hahaha!! Hey, at least there's percussion! I even did a few pieces myself. But used some midi and some acoustic instruments. Are you ever gonna do anymore pieces??
@amtrakboy37 I've been working for ten months on a book about audio and recording. It's going to the publisher this week - woo hoo! I hope to do an arrangement of Mister Sandman next. I had half of the MIDI backing done when I got the book deal and had to stop, but I still need to find a local female singer who is excellent and can read music.
Was actually quite moving. Especially the touch at the end with his thoughts of his wife. This guy is a plethora of talent and and invaluable information. I've been following his website for a while.. I wish he would compile all of his wisdom and experience of audio and music into a book. His wife is a writer, it just seems like a no-brainer- I would certainly pay good money for a copy! Get on it, Ethan.
@opereznet Thanks. I used Cakewalk SONAR to record the audio, then Sony Vegas Video to put all the video clips together. No fancy hardware. Just a little Mackie mixer used as microphone preamps and for monitoring. For this project I used only one microphone for all the parts, an audiotechnica 4033.
Wow!!!!!!!!! I sat here and thought, OMG this had to take a long time to put together, and then I read the description. Fantastic.... Keep up the great work...
Possibly outperforms my acid years for pure psychedelic tripping. If I could remember them..... I think.

My greatest congratulations Mr. Winer!!! You are a wonderful musician and a very funny man!! I'm in love with your Cello Concerto in a minor too, I've been listening to that beautiful piece since many years and I just love it! Keep on Ethan and greetings from Italy! :-)
awesome stuff ethan, i was directed here from your site reading about treating my control room. i just had a question. in the vid here, at about 6 min you are playing the guitar with what looks like brass rods. What is that technic called?
Thanks foop. On the video I'm using a pair of Garfield (cartoon cat) pencils. But when I actually recorded the audio I think I used a screwdriver shaft. I forget exactly, but I'm sure it was metal to get a harder sound.
That's my friend Ed Dzubak. Ed is a real drummer, and was better able to mime the drumming that I did as MIDI on a keyboard. Originally I planned to mime the drumming myself, but then realized I'd probably look silly.
Hi Ethan...I loved what you did and the different outfits really added to the whole thing.I posted a video response and would really dig your impression considering your tallent.
I cannot describe what a thrill it is to listen to your music, let alone the brilliant way you create these videos. Don't stop - and thanks a million for sharing!
This is awesome Ethan! Your honest and sincere spirit shines through with authenticity. If you go far enough(which you did) you sail past any possibilities of campy into the realm of beatlesque childlike innocence and wonder!!
Hey Ethan. I love "a cello rondo" but I find this kind of campy. The music itself is a little cheesy for me, but the video just puts it over the top. Why on earth did you pick some of those outfits? Anyway, sorry to be critical. I still love "a cello rondo."
Sir, you are a hero. Never seen Mike Oldfield do anything THIS cool. Loved the moments with the string section, and the... oh hell, I loved all of it!!! Please don't stop, you king among men.
Wow, just wow. This made my day. This made tomorrow's day. That's how awesome it is. Two days worth of friggin awesome jam-packed into 12 minutes 20 seconds.
What was the instrument you used at 8:32? In blue.
That's a slide whistle. I planned to use a flute for that part. I don't play the flute so I borrowed one from a friend. But after half an hour of practice I could barely get a sound from it. I already had a slide whistle so I used that.
Thanks Luke. My first video was done entirely with one cello, 37 tracks. Click my name above and get to my Videos web page, then follow the link to Vimeo where there's a much higher quality version of Tele-Vision too.
That's really great, Ethan! The costumes are a riot, and the Star Trek and Simpsons references gave me a chuckle. Love all your acoustics stuff, too BTW.

You can get an idea of how the audio and video were put together by watching the trailer for the DVD. Click my name above to see all my YouTube videos, then watch the Tele-Vision trailer.
The tone for the third one, the one that played the lead, with you in the tanish jacket, what sort of amp/pedals/pickups did you use for that tone, it's great. Is that just a standard tele?
Thanks for the nice comments. For that lead I used the hum bucking pickup on my Telecaster (added separately, not stock). I played through my Fender Sidekick amp with the guitar's tone control full bassy, and the amp's volume cranked way up. This gives a very smooth tone, because all of the harmonics are generated by the amp rather than from the guitar itself.
I was watching your cello rondo. you do realize that the the little weight to eliminate wolf tones goes on the INSIDE of your cello, not the outside, right? you put it on the outside.
so, he is a violinist, a cellist, a pianist, a guitarist, a singer, a bassist, a drummer, and he can also play the banjo and the harmonica... anything else? a bagpipe perhaps?
