  • it skips...next version

  • In the center of the city in the night, I found the Geritol man.

  • What i love about JD is their sound fuckin unique, thats why they are one of my fav bands cuz no other band on earth sounds like them that bass man

  • THIS IS FUCKING ORGASMIC¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • I like the killers, however, they did not do a good job when they covered this song. It feels flat and emontionless, like they are just going through the motions. I'm not sure if the killers are dark and moody enough to pull off a tune like this. For the most part I like them as a band, the cover just did not work for me.

  • i just want to bring ian curtis back to life, have sex with him, then kill myself<3

  • @phoney98 What!! bringing him back from the dead isn't the mess up part, it the killing him!! why on earth would you kill that god. :)

  • @CssOrZ Messed*

  • @CssOrZ i said i'd kill MYSELF, just as ian curtis killed himself. listening to iggy pop, washing line as noose and everything<3

  • @phoney98 your super creepy :D

  • @phoney98 No....?

  • @phoney98 ur living in a dream world , but you could kill thy self if its what you want , id like that!!

  • Top comment is about hating -.- FAIL.

  • i dont play drums but this makes me wanna get a set and bang the shit out of the china

  • Why do people always feel the need to argue on youtube? Just shut up and enjoy the music. Sheesh!

  • Seriously a BMW commercial in this video, in a JOY DIVISIONS VIDEO??

  • So f*cking what if the killers covered Joy Division? Covers don't "ruin" songs, the original is still here to be enjoyed. Joy Division is a timeless band, it makes sense that current day bands feel influenced by them and wanna pay an homage, plus they didn't do a bad job... it's not like Miley Cyrus covered it or something. God, people really need to get over themselves.

  • i hate the killers. man.

  • This is why I hate these so called "hipsters" they cant even leave a song like this alone, go and bum your arctic chimps and leave ageless music alone.

  • aw. the track skips.

  • check out my cover of this song on my channel

  • Leave The Killers alone, geez, they did a decent cover. Sure, it's poppy and bubbly but it doesn't sound bad. It's just different. The problem is that so many people can't stand music different from their personal taste.

  • what the fuck is the killers?

  • juste génial , 33 ans et indémodable ...

  • Joy division Have , just vision of new rock

singularity into all 21 Music Partness

Very claft Dont have Next Teen visage of

    Rock fouk..

She Lost control ,,, i refer Midia In World Fuckín Music...

  • I hate the Killers but everytime this song came on I would listen and enjoy it. I couldn't understand why this song had powerful lyrics that wasn't the norm of the Killers brand. A friend of mine insulted me then offered to let me listen to the original. It was Joy Division! This song blew my ears away. I couldn't stop listening to it! Great song!

  • στα βαθη των ωκεανων οπου ολες οι ελπιδες βουλιαξαν ,ψαχνοντας για σενα....

  • @Teknosun ετσι

  • can u stop it with all the 'oh it's sad they have less views than the killers blablabla' they didn't have youtube back then

  • excellent quality, brilliant song. thanks.

  • this version is the best and i don't have anything about the killers, but we came not to discuss only that, do we? and it's sad joy division has less views than the killers.:(

  • @AmeRoawr

not it's not sad, a lot of joy divion fans have better things to do than people than 12 years olds who listen to the killers... with that said, i love both versions!

  • This is the better version... no question. So much more raw than the Killers.

  • the joy division music in thhis track is a lot grugeier and

better but the killers vocals are way better

  • which fucking idiots are disliking this!?! Can only imagine it's killers fanboys trying to make it seem their cover is better

  • If Joe Strummer (Clash) met Ian Curtis in heaven/hell today, and had a drink and chat, Would they be back to Earth ? What for? maybe to join the anti-capitalist protests in Europe , Occupy Wall Street in NY. Maybe.

  • 44 dislikes?? You fucking gay cunts!!

  • @davedenisetigg gay ? seriously ?

  • Brian Aubert ,From Silversun Pickups sang It Pretty well I liked it you know like it was ..Different Hahaha Idk >.<

  • Guys please, i really don't understand a shit!

Why are you discussin' on such a great song?

Just let the assholes be assholes and enjoy that great song from that great band!

  • @MrKatana1100sz Ignore him, lay back and listen to the greatest ever Joy Division, Stranglers, Buzzcocks..( does redpaul79 know who Buzzcocks, Magazine, Associates..are)?? PUB is the word, agree with you, apparently they call it bar!!! Take care MrKatana100sz

  • Great song by a great band.

  • @MrKatana1100sz The Stranglers are out of this world. Yes! ;^) Golden Brown, Toiler on the Sea, La Folie,...They say Golden Brown is about the drug. I think it is.,.but i think its about so much more as well. Spirits abounding. ANyone who doesnt know of the Stranglers should check them out!

  • @MrKatana1100sz i dont know what on earth you're yammering about... who the fuck are the stranglers?... and what's this "pub" shit? it's called a BAR, faggot--

  • @MrKatana1100sz bullshit--Devo's pointless "cover" (massacre is more like it) of Satisfaction was a lame gimmick novelty record--annoying and lame--only a subnormal could consider that (or any stupid cover) "better" than the one recorded by the song's CREATOR--the very notion is just asinine--you're a smelly douchebag.

  • @MrKatana1100sz decent points you make. just the same. The original was originally made up by someone and the people covering are just covering. Am i wrong? I completely agree with you on the Devo cover as well though. But that could be because my dad loves the stones version and i think my dad is full of shit. As well as the stones are so overdone at this point, its refreshing to hear something new lol ;) be well. peace and love..

  • goduria

  • Fuck The Killers. This is 30x better.

  • Fuck the killers. This is 30x better

  • this song is sooo good!

  • does anyone else notice that it says Joy Division are playing at The Greenside Hotel, Leslie on 21st October 2011? hmmmm.............

  • sounds like bauhause

  • @o0POSH0o bauhaus copied JD they hairdressers with guitars!

  • ohmygawd thisisperfection

  • i just listened to the killers version. just a shitty waste of time.

  • If you love The Horrors and Death From Above 1979 or even Joy Division check out The Deep Transition on here or facebook. You will love them I can assure you of that !

  • I think The Killers cover was a great job :D but the original versions of all songs are better :D always!

the killers is awesome too ;)

  • @dannitklover One exeption...there cover of Romeo and Juliet WAS better than the original Dire Straits version!!! But apart from that, couldn't agree with u more :)

  • oh ian, why did you leave.

  • Hello guys. I'm RockN8N.

This is my new channel with my own song on it.

    Enjoy

This is not a pathetic lie or something, I'm really the same guy as RockN8N. You can check the profiles if you don't believe it.

  • Forty - one dislikes!?What the firetruck?!This song is amazing! What is wrong with those people?

  • such a fantastic song.

  • The Killers have never and wont ever write anything remotely as good as this.

  • @moldyolddough1 complete BS. I'm not going to argue over who is better, but that is ridiculous.

  • @moldyolddough1 Totally agree with you . Joy Division the greatest ever.

  • @moldyolddough1 I wouldn't go as far as saying that, The Killers has many songs with lyrics that would compare to this. Even though you like Joy Divisions version of Shadowplay better then The Killers, you shouldn't compare them, because they are in two completely different genres. I wont deny that this version is good, but I prefer The Killers's live version best. But that is just my taste, and I respect it if you think this version is better.

  • @1985Asylum Why compare Joy Division with the Killers? In fact had they never covered this song I doubt anybody would hear any influence in their music.Joy Division were a post-punk group who made music because they had to. The Killers are a pop group who are generally more like Scissor Sisters in sound. They make music for commercial gain primarily. which is fair enough. As for comparing them lyrically, well that's just laughable really. Some covers do improve on the originals sometimes though.

  • @moldyolddough1 You don't think anybody would hear any influence in their music? The Killers were extremely big long before they covered this song. The Killers is a pop group? Thats wrong, The Killers is a rock band, mate, and they sound far from Scissor Sister, you must have terrible ears to think so.

  • @1985Asylum I'm not questioning how big the Killers are. I just don't think they should even be mentioned in the same breathe a Joy Division. The Killers are essentially a pop band or pop/rock if you like with little emotional depth that i can hear or see in their music. But my comparing them to the scissor sisters to you is as wide of the mark as you comparing them with Joy Divison.

The Scissor Sisters covered Pink Floyd but that is where comparison begin and end. Its is the same here.

  • @1985Asylum I meant nobody would consider Joy Division to be an influence on the Killers had they not covered one of their songs. Having said that I cant think of any bands of merit who would cite the Killers as an influence on them and their sound. I have been a music lover for over 30 years and have very varied eclectic tastes indeed but alas the Killers have failed to do anything for me. They just don't have it.

  • @moldyolddough1

    ..Bravo !....

  • @moldyolddough1 yeah the killers have no chance, Joy Division is one of the best bands

  • I like the lyrics, and the music....just not his voice :/

  • if i puut a gun to your head and told u what to think then maybe youd be justified calling me nazi..douche bag. your opinion is what counts. tell me something i dont know

  • a nazi? your callin me a nazi due to my opinion? get a grip..smoke a joint...jesus

  • @AbsintheColour press the "reply"button and then type your response :)

  • Fukc imagine 30 more years of Ian's creativity,,,

    just try to imagine....

  • Who compare versions is stupid.

  • Fuck The Killers They Are Wanna Be Joy Division Band Like Interpol

  • @SidMisfit difference is interpol are actually worth something

  • @Gwilim But Their Just A Band Too Influenced To Where They Sound Almost Like A Cover Band.

  • I am fully supportive that JD were and are the best band, BUT, the Killers did a very good homage to an inspiration of theirs. They weren't stealing the song, they weren't claiming it, just creating a tribute.

Now can everyone get over themselves and stop being music snobs? Thanks.

  • Both versions of the song are great, stop bitching people.

  • I Soviett Russia, you die for Ian Curtis...

  • I've always liked the Killers and thought their version was great. But you can't beat the original. Brandon his has own personal style of music and Ian had his. Ian was a musical genius long before Brandon's time. To me it's not a pissing contest of who did the better version, but simply a tribute to one of rock's most beloved frontmen that is Ian Curtis.

  • Sorry but Killers butchered this awesome song....

  • Atleast the killers changed the song and just didnt try to be Joy Division

  • This is just great.... >:(

  • @darceyheart Care to expand on that, brainiac? The only reason to even sample the killers is for their weak attempt to emulate or reproduce genius.

  • Interpol are the only real successors to Division in modern pop music, Killers are good, but nothing like as good or as similar. They might be influenced, but they didn't truly inherit.

  • @marcvesper No band is sucessor to another band. All bands (the good ones) are unique. Being influenced is one thing, being the heir of a band is something completely different.

  • I guess The Killers version of this song would sound good if I took Prozac as it is completely devoid of any real emotional content. Joy Division will still always own this song no matter what. Bands should really think twice before covering any Joy Division songs as they can never reach the depths of soul searching that Ian Curtis had to write the lyrics. Personally The Killers version kind of ruined Shadowplay for a few years as a listening experience for myself.

  • LMFAO!

  • the killers suck ass, stop mentioning them

  • The killers version is better..

  • @darceyheart Yeah, well, Joy division did it first and the Killers changed the song way to much to call it shadowplay

  • @darceyheart yea right.... i'm sure..

  • id love to know the percentage of videos on you tube that contain comments of wankers arguing, its gotta be quite high

  • Fuck off killer's version, I fucking hate that cover song.

  • I was definently born in the wrong decade. I would give anything to have seen JD in person.

  • Easy to cover... indeed. Just play...the hard work it`s already made... The original...

And it`s not shit... L know it from myself

  • i love the killers and joy division. both version are epic lets just all be friends lol

  • @DARRENC1972

I f..ck The Killers so hard!

  • best band ever <3

  • seems like the killers fans and joy divisions fans dont like each other.. get over it, these are both talented bands and if you dont think so.. dont tak about either of em -.-

  • @rongdisk23 could not have said it better, I like Joy Division, I like The Killers. We don't need to compare them.

  • interpol shouldve covered this song!

  • The pride of Manchester, Having heard the shit cover by the killers, Makes me glad to be the age i am.

  • but... you can be forgiven..... there is redemption , just think "What would Ian do?"

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO DISLIKED THIS. WHO GIVES A FUCK? I'M GONNA DISLIKE IT JUST TO PISS YOU OFF.

  • @JakeWeirdo12 U mad? U one of the people who dislike this song? Wats wrong witchuu?

  • @ViciousDeliciousIV I love this song. Joy Division is literally my favorite band. I just dont see why anyone gives a fuck about dislikes, and who dislikes the song. Some people dont like Joy Division, so what? Billions of people dont like Joy Divsion. If I dislike this song, that doesnt in any way take away from the pleasure you get from it. So why do you care? I dont care if this becomes the most disliked video on youtube. Its just a fucking click of a button. Who gives a SHIT?

  • @JakeWeirdo12 I understand what you say. It's true... Liking or disliking ONE VIDEO don't mean disliking ALL THE BAND :/

Just a number, just one click. It doesn't matter really n_n

  • WHO are the 38 people who doesn't like this song?????

  • you should check out the new Mirrors video for Look At Me! It's on the Mirrors channel M1rrors

  • fuck justin,ladi gaaga,

  • @souberk ...saying such names in a great video... just, don't talk about them. Thanks in advance.

  • Reminds me of my brother who committed suicide a few months ago.

    R.I.P. brother, I miss you.

  • <3

  • Some people say they like the killers cover of the song better than the original. lmao.

All doubt should be erased after watching and listening JDs live version of this. Thats my opinion anyway. And like someone said down there a ways...its easy to cover a song thats already written and there. lol

  • @AbsintheColour Don't like ur opinion. That's it. Don't like the "Easy to cover" ... You say shit man.

  • @AbsintheColour I would have a hard time naming a song by The Killers, but if we get to hear some live JD, then all well and good!

  • @AbsintheColour I just hear both versions... Its just so hard to compare The Killers does sound clearer...

  • @AbsintheColour yes i'd imagine it quite impossible to cover a song that has not yet been written

  • @AbsintheColour

ian would hate anyone who wrote "lol" in a sentence

  • @atwax

    lol Just kidding

  • @atwax I doubt that

  • @AbsintheColour People doesn't feel all the same, it's all about how it makes you feel, but nobody's right, all of them are right, you know, telling people how to think it's fucking nazi

  • @AbsintheColour anyone who "likes a cover song better than the original" is a turd who needs to be flushed

  • @redpaul79 thats what im thinkin. For the very most part anyway

  • @AbsintheColour i mean "as good", okay--but "better?" that would just be absurd. even if the cover is more perfect, it's still just a well polished copy.

  • @redpaul79 Yes. ;^)

  • @redpaul79 Not necessarily.

  • @AnuxeL anyone in the world can "re-do" something, adding a little of this and a bit of that, combining elements to "improve" on something, make it more perfect for example, but nothing trumps originality.

  • @AbsintheColour True, but it's not easy to make it your own while paying homage to the previous artist.

  • @TheGoodStuff2010 it isnt. its bold. it seems darn near impossible. I have nothing personally against it. I think it would be almost as if someone on the street was playing a old song. You wouldnt go up to them and say you suck and arent as good as the original. hahaha. They of course would are just fond of playing the diddy and love the original i suppose.

  • @AbsintheColour I believed The Killers said they were asked by Joy Division and didn't want to do it because they feared it wouldn't be a good cover. Personally, I really enjoy it and it's alright that some Joy Division fans don't, but I think that some of them are miffed that another band (or not the one that wanted) covered the song. Artists do it all of the time and The Killers aren't any different. They should be happy the group is being open to more fans.

  • @TheGoodStuff2010 sounds good. if the guys from JD asked them then thats how it is.

  • @AbsintheColour The most important guy from JD has s been dead for 30years!? If killers asked they must asked a clairvoyance!? all this comparence is crap!!? face it today's generation has nothing to contribute only COPY!!!

  • @MysterCD Never liked the Killers. Pretty common band for nowadays in my opinion. Ian checked out of his own will also. Effin sucks, but he kinda lost his say when he did that. It was a selfish thing to do. Much love to him and to some extent i think your right about him being the most important in the band. It was his poetry, his voice. You cant disrespect the musical side of it either. They were a team and couldnt have succeeded one without the other.

  • @AbsintheColour Killers are US wana bees Dont waist your time !!? Snore!!!

  • @MysterCD again, i agree. Sucks that the bands need to keep relevent and popular overpowers their artistic integrity a bit. Itd be nice if they could find a better way

  • problem with Killers they didn't kill themselves!!? also the UK Editors who even worse copiies!!?

  • this song is the good representation of my soul...Ian always on my mind

  • alt gut gut

  • who wrote the song, the killers or...

  • @WardSennes No, the killers just made a cover of the song. Ian Curtis wrote it ( the vocalist of Joy Division).

  • @WardSennes you should be shot

  • @WardSennes ha ha ha ha ha what no it was curtis the killers only destryed it and i quite like killers

  • Bacon.

  • IAN VIVIRAS POR SIEMPRE HASTA SIEMPRE IAN

  • @crabroast22 you need your ears cleaned.

  • Oh sooooo awesome!!!! I really don't know what's happened, I mean when is there gonna be another great music wave? Or something.....

  • @SVTSuzie I'm afraid not. All we have is people conforming to mainstream stuff, which is, sadly, Justin Bieber etc. :P

  • I've always thought that Unknown Pleasures is a great rock album but by the time they were recording stuff like Passover, Komakino, Atrocity Exhibition and Something Must Break, Ceremony, In A Lonely Place about a year later they were so good by then they are pretty much an artistic high watermark of the 2nd half of the 20th C. Listen to a track like Passover - it's just a few guitar lines hung over a void. It sounds like nothing else in creation. They were truly out on their own by then.

  • @NormanArches ye but it was down to the producer he had alot of imput he was great

  • @JJLippe

Why would you say such stupid shit like that?

  • dont hate me, but my utter love for brandon flowers/killers brought me here....and tbh....i kinda like/love their version better :3 hehe

  • @Smallville357 Get out.

  • @AStreetwiseAngel

sorry. but its the truth. theres nothing i love more than to see my beloved killers get up there and rock the skirt off a song that lacked.....character.... :)

  • @Smallville357 the killers versoin has a crap beat no soul in the vocal the killers are technically better musicians but iain curtis lived breathed and wrote those words you only have your beloved killers because of joy division british music has mostly lead the way ie the beatles you gave us the monkeys ones so real the other fake just like killers shadow play and by the way i like the killers

  • @GAREMPOTS

just chillax bro. im just expressing my opinions. to me, iain curtis's voice doesnt have the same character and animation, the same tone and intensity as brandon. and thats why i dont like this version as much. i love joy divison and somtimes, only being a 14 year old chick, i get totally bugged for my taste in music and so i must be naive to think that displaying my opinions in the most respectful way possible would ever be looked upon as "legal". BEING HONEST IS A CRIME!!

  • @GAREMPOTS ye but the killers have all this recording wizardry like most bands this is as real as it gets its ok too express your opinoin for sure but i have the right too say you are not right you like most people your age prob heard killers firstman a was your age when joy divisoin started i also write record and play doesnt make me an expert but i know whats going on in the recording and joy divisoin werent the best players around musicianship wise but the diffrence its easy too cover a song

  • @GAREMPOTS It's okay, 14 yo girls like high pitched voices. God forbid someone with a low tenor or baritone voice should sing something.

  • @TheFauxpas42

THATS NOT IT YOU DUMBASS! JEEZ. that has nothing to do with it. take justin bieber for example...possibly the biggest homo-in-denial there is. HATE HIM. HATE HATE HATE HIM...freakin gangsta wannabe...hes sucha douche. anyways....brandon flowers is just very special. and joy division is as well. i just think that the killers, overall, did a great job of covering this song and by saying this, i may even prefer their version. kapish!?

  • @TheFauxpas42

btw, nick cave and lou reed are 2 of my favourite artists...so how u like them apples?

  • @Smallville357 Your an idiot. Read a book.

  • @TheMRseaton

meh. much rather watch the killers version of this song.

  • @Smallville357 Simple pleasures for simple minds

  • @roe5745

nothing wrong with keeping things simple. rather that that be broke, divorced, or dying....

  • @Smallville357 no one will ever take you seriously again for that stupid opinion. sorry. but you're lame.

  • @TheFeelin89

no need to be sorry. id much rather be stupid than you.....id call you an idiot but i wouldnt wanna offend idiots.

  • my uncle saw these back in 78 i wish i had love them.and ian

  • Possibly the greatest song of all time in the "modern era"

  • @donnybrooklads so in other words it's not the greatest song of all time? it would be the greatest song of the modern era?
