I saw dozens of the green & white VW taxi's in Mexico City just recently. The no longer make the old style body, but the green ones are out there still!
They don't have the logo of the taxi anymore since May 2009. They do use beetle cars painted green as pirata taxi's. Anyway by 2012 the government banishes all of them.

Thanks for the update. It is sad to lose such an icon of Mexico City. New York City seems so different now without the Checker Marathon taxi's.
