In the part where Leckie arrived home, his parents, especially his mother, seemed to be indifferent to his returning home. His mother's only concern was that he didn't give them any notice. They treated him like he was a stranger instead of their son. I guess they, like a lot of folks, didn't realize the hell he went through over there and how lucky he was to make it back alive and in one piece.
