It's maybe just as well that I didn't attend church/bible groups as a kid (because of social problems and being autistic). I always felt awkward going into such places, for some weird reason. Even now, I still can't go into the same type of place without feeling awkward, though I don't know why I feel that way. But I have heard all about abuse in a religious environment. It saddens me. I was even close to tears when I watched the film, "Song For A Raggy Boy" (worth watching at least once).

Thing is, it was so widespread and represented such a failure of government and society in general. There were plenty of opportunities for people with *clout* to speak out, the very people the community respected. *Anyone who knew about it* is a lot of people and those who were told and didn't believe it is a lot of people too...so in a very real sense I think it is irelands shame...If group identity is important to you then you have to take all the hits the group gets, that's the price you pay.
