Thanks for the tip on adding a patina, gotta try that sometime. One thing to remember about safety... !!!ALWAYS ADD ACID TO WATER!!!, not the other way around!
6 Stars for this video. I am currently doing a patina on carbon steel. But am looking for ideas to force a patina on my stainless blades as well. Came across this video, and now I know it is possible! I will cook up some method of my own, because I do not think that tub-cleaner is readily available in my area. Anyhow, thumbs up!!
@knivesfishwild She made a great video and very informative. a bottle of TarnX from Walmart will do the exact same thing. It also says on the outside of bottle "Not for use on Stainless Steel" I saw my Grandmother completely stain a stainless steel tray about 6 years ago while polishing her silverware on the front porch. I gave my Victorinox Soldier pocket knife a full patina the next day. It really does a great job.
@retusyllib Thank you. I do not have Walmart in the country where I live, so I am not sure if I can get TarnX. However, thank you for the heads up. I will keep it in mind!
A thought: would soldering flux work? It's acidic too I believe, and might be a little cheaper than the sulphamic acid. It's already in paste form as well.
I liked it and found it rather cool, but my main concern is why would you want to do that to your knife? I mean doesn't that just damage the metal and allow it to rust faster?
You can also neutralize sulfamic acid with baking soda when you need to dispose of it. The liquid solution decomposes into ammonium bisulfate by itself, which is kind of nasty stuff even diluted.
yeah. I was running low on time and wasn't thinking as hard as I should have been. Spelling is not my strong point....and Steal was spelled correctly. Ugh....
Muratic acid also works very well, let blade soak for 10 minutes, then heat to 200 degrees and dip in apple cider vinegar.

Interesting, a actual useful way of using the sulfamic acid other then cleaning.

Very Cool!
You can also use a basic to neutralize the acid (e.c. bleach).

lol i have one question wtf is a snow cone and what is its consistancy lol
wolfbrother2501 2 years ago
It's basically slush in a cone, flavored with syrup.
morefrills 2 years ago
lol so like a slush puppy over here but thats a drink its not very thick
wolfbrother2501 2 years ago
Snow cones aren't mixed with water, though they'll become thinner slush as they melt.
