NOTE: do not use tap water, use Distilled water. There is no micro organism in distilled water. However due to water standards, micro organism, chemicals, and unknowns are in tap water.
@viebe3 And there is no way that's a 1/4t spoon. That's a half. 1/4 is tiny. I can't believe they are showing us an instructional video and demonstrating the WRONG way! Tap water? All over, on the instructions, it says to NEVER use tap water.
I use a neti pot and find it quite effective. HOWEVER! YOU DO NOT USE TAP WATER! Tap water can contain amoeba that can cause harm if passed through the nostrils (especially in the southwest). Although this is quite uncommon, it still is a possibility. YOU SHOULD ONLY USE DISTILLED OR BOILED WATER WHEN USING A NETI POT.
I think I have sphenoid sinusitis, started as frontal pressure and went, then less than 2 weeks later returned with some frontal pressure, earache, temple pressure, neck pain and pain at the top of the head.... i have been told to try this while i wait as i have to wait until ear nose and throat in january.. and my nasal spray isnt doing much
@SocialMarketingVA damn dude me and you get them at the same time lol... what part of Virginia do you live in?... or do you live in VA?... i live in Charlottesville
I have chronic nasal infections and the neti pot used regularly is the only thing that has ever helped. All my symptoms disappeared quickly and I've been pain free ever since I started using one. I'm in love with my neti pot. Deeply in love.
TAP WATER! Are you crazy!?!? NEVER NEVER NEVER USE TAP WATER! I've been using an electric nasal hydrator (to not advertise the brand) for well over a year. Same exact concept, less all the rigors of tilting your head. If you absolutely want a sinus infection use tap water. If you are trying to avoid sinus infections use reverse osmois filtered water. Same stuff that comes in the 5 gallon water cooler bottles. You shouldn't even drink tap water, chlorine is poison period. Tap water will kill you.
@jarenzo Tap water will kill you? Where do you live exactly? Tap water where I'm from is absolutely fine. I've been drinking the stuff for nearly 24 years and I'm still alive. Most of these videos say to use tap water so I doubt it''s a big deal. I think you're just a drama queen
Just used my new neti pot for the first time today. I have a sinus infection and the water cleaned me out pretty good. Got it in my mouth a few times. Have to work on technique. Six hours later, I can still breathe better (though sneezing like crazy).
I bought a neti pot and it's awesome. For as long as I remember, I could not breathe this good, it's like my body receives 2x oxygen now and it feels great. However, I'm now curious about some forced methods so I can really blast that stuff out. This is a great first step though.
They are great for sinus its a little strange at first but you will get use to it. It helped me out a lot. Its also better than any medicine that i have used .
I like Beautiful Girls! as much as the next heterosexual guy, and I appreciate what the neti pot does for me, but somehow the two things just don't go together.
The methods of the ancient hatha yogis.....they use to change their whole body chemistry through various techniques. This makes one feel light in the head.
what happens when you try the neti pot for the first time and you thow up does this mean that i did the neti pot wrong? i followed the instructions but i think that i have to get use to the neti pot
@StarWoman87 You threw up? That's not a normal reaction to using a neti pot. I just use one, so I'm not expert, but it sounds like maybe you got some water down your throat and had some type of gag reaction? Other than that, I can't think of why that would happen. Do you have a strong gag reflex? Next time you see your doctor, perhaps you should mention it, just to see if they have any reasons.
Probably. I gagged, eyes streaming tears, stinging like crazy when I first started using one, not to mention the disgusting blood clots that is washed out of my sinuses (might as well be disgustingly honest). Now that I've got the technique down pat and I'm used to it and the infection has cleared up it doesn't bother me at all. It becomes as routine as brushing your teeth.
Netty Pots, yes especially you coke head! You can even boil the water discharge away to regain some remaining crystals lost in the sinuses. Netty pot...keeps coke heads breathing happily.
i just used my netti pot for the first time and i love it!!! i thought i would choke but it comes straight out the other nostril and you can breathe through your mouth while your doing it... i especially love blowing my nose once im done with it everything comes out soo nice. This really works
You should only use distilled water or boiled water that has been cooled. Water from the tap may contain things that you don't want added to your nose.
You keep your mouth open, and calmly breathe through your mouth as the saline water flows through your nostrils. Just be sure to bend wayy frontward, relax your head into the sink, and you'll enjoy the nice warm nasal rinse experience. When the last water flows out the neti, maintained your head in the sink tilted for 15 seconds, close off the upper nostril and blow the snot into the sink. Repeat the process for the other nostril. Wipe nose with tissue. Most people don't bend forward enuf.
Actually, using the neti pot feels great! When you are in a pool, the water is cool, filled with chlorine, and you are not expecting it to go in your nose. Using a neti pot with warm salty water is rather soothing! Stop by the netiworld store and check one out. They make awesome holiday gifts.
@easyseasons - Yes it will feel like that if you don't use the proper water. I didn't watch this whole video, but I skimmed through and noticed that she got her water from the tap. If your local water has even a low amount of chlorine, it'll burn. Boil some water and let it cool to room temp. I keep a pitcher of previously boiled water in the fridge. If you want, you can use distilled bottled water, but boiling is free and it doesn't create the waste of the plastic bottle.
nope, i thought it would feel like that too. it's probably because when we get it up our nose while swimming, it goes too far up. but you don't suck up the water from the neti pot like that, it just goes through the place where your nose connects. it just feels like your nose is running (alot)
@SaganAppreciationSoc im sorry easy seasons for trying to promote your video, but a netti pot is torture. but its true that you will get used to it and it works a lot
@SaganAppreciationSoc and you open your mouth and breathe through there, so the water never goes into your mouth, then again thats if you know how to use it
no way

Tap water is safe for drinking, but not for irrigating your nose. I guess two people already died from that.

Quick question: How often do you repeat this? Once, twice daily? Great video by the way!

I have two questions:
1. Is this a relief or more of a remedy?
2. Is it supposed to come out your mouth and your nostril at the same time?

Tap water is just supposedly more harsh on your nose than salt water is. Or at least that's what the internets say.

You can briefly stop the flow to pause and catch your breath, then you resume. The pause only takes roughly a second once you get practice.
