  • Steve Allen brought the alternative culture of his time to television. On his show, he played jazz blues piano behind Kerouac reading from "On the Road," and he often featured Hollywood Nature Boy Gypsy Boots. We future hippies, still in school, loved his show. This set of lyrics is a case in point, and no one could deliver them like Satch.

  • 1953 and swings like mad!! ..merry yule -rhsc nyc

  • who'd of thought that a middle aged comedian could write cool jazz.... awesome song!!

  • Serendipity!

  • I love this song....

  • Love playing the drums along with this ! COOL Yule is right !!

  • @DavignonBaby its jazz , im 13 and i love this music so much especially at christmas thats the best time of year for jazzy music!! :D <33

  • It just doesn't get any cooler than Cool Yule! Also listen to Kurt Elling's version. It swings too.

  • christmas cd's that come out now don't have anything on this.

  • One of my all-time favorite Christmas songs, courtesy of two geniuses: Satchmo and Steve Allen. Check out the Kurt Elling version on YouTube - also very cool!

  • big weed buds right under the christmas tree!

the movie blow brought me here!

  • Just great !!

Listen to the exciting Louis Armstrong, killer band execution, all pulled together by Steve Allen's arrangement. Wow. You can listen to this all year long. Why wait for the holidays ?

  • Serendipity!!!!!

  • yeroo

  • We were all born in the wrong generation. The first fifty years of the 20th Century was the greatest for music. Satchmo changed how we sing and play and made us all hip!

  • I hadn't heard this in years! Thanks for posting it. LOVE this song.

  • I heard this tune when I was working in a dept store, as a clerk, part time for the holiday season. They played "muzac", but when THIS song came around (they played the same songs on a continuous loop), I pepped up and just couldnt keep my feet from moving and practically DANCING at the register! lol Because of THAT, I'd call this tune swing or big band, cuz daaaaaang, it got me swinging!!!

When I pointed out the tune to customers, they couldnt keep their feet from tapping!

    AAAWWWESOMMMMME!!!

  • Cool Yule is a refreshing difference from Jingle Bells which is very tiresome after awhile

    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My music teacher has an incredible Louis Armstrong voice as I found out when we started playing this song in class.

  • Props to the composer, entertainer/Renaissance man Steve Allen.

  • AND YOU GONNA FLIP WHEN OLD SAINT NICK TAKES A LICK FROM A PEPPERMINT STICK. • My school song

  • 1st heard this 16yrs ago & its one of my favorite Chistmas songs, a timeless treasure for future generations to enjoy. Thats for posting & Thank you Louis,

I hope everyone out there has a cool yule.

  • First time remember hearing this song was some years back while walking through a large Antique Mall. Such talent and so up lifting with the Louis Armstrong style. Thank you Louis. Oh and as tradition would have it, back to the Antique Mall this season.

  • When I first heard this song I thought he was saying "And you're gonna flip with old Saint Nick. Suck my dick like a peppermint stick". lol

  • Merci!

  • i sing this at my xmas program! lol

  • it's Jazz & scat

  • luv it :)

  • I wish he didn't doe. He was such a great trumpet player. No one can replace him ever. :D GOOD SONG!!

  • one of the greatest! ;)

  • what genre is this music? I LOVE IT! Im 18 and this is all i want to listen to! I was born in the wrong generation for sure :)

  • @DavignonBaby me too!! haha.

    I love it!!

  • @DavignonBaby you and me both. Im gonna learn how to play this on trumpet =]

  • @DavignonBaby Same 17 here, and this music makes me want to shake my hips.

  • @DavignonBaby THIS IS SORT OF IN THE MIDDLE OF JAZZ AND CLASSICAL AND CHRISTMAS MUSIC., YOUR NOT IN THE WRONG GENURATION JUST YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY, THATS ALL

  • uh.. Swing.. jazz...

    just look up Louis

  • @DavignonBaby jazz :)

  • @DavignonBaby You could call it "big band" music, but in many respects it was the 'pop' music of the day.

  • @DavignonBaby same here...hahaha

  • @DavignonBaby: then you gotta learn to dance to it >> swing!! (also the genre :)

  • @DavignonBaby

When it's timeless music, you don't have to be born in the generation.

  • @DavignonBaby your not the only one bro, i'm 17 and id'e much rather listen to this type of music than katy perry and justin bieber haha, and the style is kind of a mash up of, Crooner/ New orleans jazz/ big band. thats what im hearing.

  • @DavignonBaby Jazz/Big Band ♥♥

  • @DavignonBaby i feel exactly the same... im 19 and love old music and films... as for the genre im guessing it would come under either jazz or xmas x

  • @DavignonBaby This would be considered swing music which is big band music. Have you ever tried blues music? It is awesome too! As a matter of fact I have never been a Cyndi Lauper fan but she released a blues cd this year...totally awesome. Check it out I think you will like it also. You're 1 awesome young man. If only we could change this generation and get them away from this rap. Don't get me wrong because I like older rap i.e. MC Hammer. I like music with meaning more.

  • So nice song, Louis was a master!!!!

  • i love how he laughs at the end

  • maybe its him coughing
