This game was so wierdly disjointed. Some of the levels, like the first level in the town with the flames, and the underwater temples, were graphically amazing. Other levels were just repeated nondescript cave walls and brick. The traditional bridge to the keep was all fucked up too, you could see the castle ten miles away in the background while you walked up some shitty stairs instead of an epic starcase. Music was awesome though, and it's Castlevania, so it ruled anyway.

@razorslice17 Its basically because the game came out on PC Engine first (Rhondo of blood) and many people do not think that the SNES version is as good.

Kind of like Final Fight arcade vs Final Fight on SNS. The second was just watered down.

Mind you some people reckon the Sega Saturn versoin of Castlevania SOTN is better than the Playstation version.......

Anyway i think you can get the original PC Engine version on PSP now so check it out for the differences.

Just played this tonight. And for me it's a pain to control the main character. The jump mechanics are horrible compared to Super Castlevania IV.

I think it was to tone down the religion source it had, after all Cerberus is the dog from hell, and to nintendo back in the day, any source of religion is eliminated. Regardless of how it showed it.

That is also why the Red Devil boss was renamed in that one megaman game.

I did, and the first Castlevania is my favorite along with Super Castlevania 4 and Rondo of Blood. And I ALSO didn't like Judgement at all apart from the music. That doesn't mean I'll force my opinion upon other people.

Is it REALLY that important which game people prefer? I don't think their tastes regarding video games, out of all things, will make them better or worse persons. There is no such thing as absolute truth when it comes to opinions, at least in this case.

The only reason why this game got destroyed by reviewers was because they compared it to the PC version. That's like comparing an Atari 2600 to an Xbox 360. Totally unfair IMO. I always found it very entertaining.

i have a .rar somewhere of me doing the entire game (emulated ZSNES input recording) in segments without taking a single hit of damage. i later did the same sorta thing with Akumajou Dentestu, only in whole-level segments, even with the extra stages. i never did finish that set... the reaper's one hell of a hurdle when you're trying to do a clean run (whole levels with bosses)... a lot of these games aren't as hard as they look. even the X68K game only has a few difficult parts (read: major)
