  • This song is such a powerful testament to the times we are in.

  • I had forgotten about this song until I found an ancient CD labeled "Lupe Is God" lol damn brings me back.

  • Illuminati. The New World Order. Fear is upon us. No safe zones. 2012

  • i just came here for the amen break

  • Is this about Hillary Clinton?

  • I don't usually care for Lupe Fiasco. Nothing personal to him, I just don't like rap (He is an amazing lyricist though, I've never had trouble admitting that). But this song is one of my favorites of all time. The lyrics are deep and meaningful as always--and as always, that is an indescribable understatement.

This is one of the only rap songs I've ever liked. The vocals, the beat, the over all effect of the song makes this sincerely fantastic music.

  • the best song ever!

  • The "disease" is clearly a metaphor. Personally, I think it's a metaphor for our country's corruption. "Refine the receiver and plant it during the panic and short it, it reports back everything in your mind" referring to the post-9/11 nationwide phone tapping? The three lines prior are self-explanatory. The government controls the media ("designed and broadcasted from the masters") and the media shows you what they want to show you ("to the masses") "through the antennas on top of our shrine."

  • @douchiedude The "disease" is what The Streets (the metaphysical character Lupe created in the Coolest) is doing. The actual streets (the drug/pimping/etc game) can destroy lives, and it spreads contagiously, like a disease. The Streets (the character) is destroying everything around her physically, while the streets (drugs/etc) destroys affiliated with it (crackheads, prostitutes, etc.).

  • @youngj1921 I know what The Streets resembles, I think she ties into everything I said. Perhaps instead of using the entire country in my comment, I should have used The Streets. However, the examples I gave plus ones like "the new weather burned the feathers off everything flying" (possibly a global warming reference) seems to represent our country's issues, which wouldn't be the first time Lu raps about it. Either way, the second verse is one of the greatest verses I've ever heard.

  • @douchiedude EXACTLY. The Streets (in Lupe's story) is the cause of all this. In reality the processes that get quick money like drug dealing and prostitution, because thats what the Streets resembles. The Streets is apparently a bitch, he seduces Michael Young History, makes his peddle drugs for the Game (the 3rd character), and leaves him when the money stops flowing. So Lu is using the Streets as the representation of the causes of all the issues in the first verse.

  • @youngj1921 Yeah the Streets actually represents a chick who's a gold-digger/manipulator. "Death is on the tip of her tongue and dangers at the tip of her fingers" I think is saying she puts you in danger physically but her manipulative words are what will get you killed. rapgenius(dot)com/posts/Lupe-fiasco-the-proust-of-rap is actually really interesting to read, explains the story a bit.

  • @douchiedude Where do you think I got my info from :)

  • @youngj1921 HAH awesome =D

  • @youngj1921 Oh to add, Lu said that he makes it 50% him and 50% for the listeners to figure out. We're all going to differ, but those things are what instantly comes to mind when I read the lyrics in the second verse.

  • @douchiedude Truth, and it shows how Lupe is one of the best lyricists ever when we're arguing over what it means.

  • Streets R on fire kid !!!!!

  • This is just insane..

  • An rap artist with deep lyrics, holy shit am I back in the 90's?

  • Illuminati cover? lol

  • @KushinOfficial If you honestly think Lupe is in the 'Illuminati' you are severely delusional and in need of some serious mental help..

  • @FayariMustang where i said lupe is illuminati lo, i said somethin bout cover. u need help with reading comments

  • @KushinOfficial Wtf you're pretty much implying the same thing, obviously if you're saying it looks like an Illuminati cover then Lupe must be in the Illuminati but he's not... read WoodKidFan's comment it's supposed to represent the characters of astory.

  • @KushinOfficial Lol no, the cover is the symbol of each of the 3 characters this album portrays and tells their story in, nothing to do with anything of that sort. Do research, because Lupe Fiasco said it himself.

  • i like lupe better wit his skate board/pharrell/neptunes bang out! the rock is cool, but every body can't do rock. gotta have the craft to transition back in forth like pharrell!

  • this track is fire! beat so righeous! flow right on it!

  • I always took this song as the natural continuation of "The Cool." After Micheal Young History rose from the dead, he started a zombie apocalypse.

    {(Level Deeper) Of course, since Lupe said *the zombie* in "The Cool" is a personification of all the negative things that are portrayed as cool, a *zombie apocalypse* is probably a metaphor for a culture that perpetuates these portrayals, and then blame each other when things go wrong}

Lupe reeeeaaaally loves metaphors... things get confusing quick.

  • his new stuff is more club based, but far more politically charged...its also my opinion that this was done purposely..lupe is quality

  • only if they made the music vid of this

  • lupe fell off.

  • Favourite song ever.

  • just throwing this out there..... this song is about aids

  • Incredible song, I bumped the hell out of this album in high school.

  • what if this crap was real... wed all be dead

  • Hope he don't sell out to record labels

  • @finalturismo Kind of late to hope for that... lol have you not heard lasers?

  • @cKunke2 Wasn't his fault. Look into the controversies surrounding the album and you'll realize just how pissed Lupe was. Also, not all of his songs are sell outs, sorry :\

  • @Abyssnia All of his songs on that album were.

  • @cKunke2 So All Black Everything & Words I Never Said were sellout songs?

  • Lupe is sick when it comes to words hands down one of the greatest

  • : )

  • i got chills

  • lupe hella reminds me of kid cudi

i love smokin to this shit

  • if you have never heard my music ! you missin out ! ! !

  • I found superpeelam's comment.

  • underrated song and artists

  • DISEASE

  • classic*

  • Lupe Fiasco is one of the best rappers of all time. One more record like The Cool, and he is rap legend in my book. I'd put him in the same sentence as 2Pac, Eminem, Biggie, Kool G, Rakim, and even Nas. He's one of the best.

  • @Eziokilla9595 Well, he is making F&L2, and that will be the one that sends him into the books but only if it's like the original F&L.

  • @Eziokilla9595 F&L 2 is coming soon :D

  • @gibbylupefiascofan I just hope he's not rapping over shitty beats like on Friend of the People and Lasers.

  • as of 12/18/2011 superpeelam's comment is on page 8

  • And the NDAA will go into action.

  • Ehhm, Let me explain this song.

It is talking about two things

    1. An epidemic

    2.Love

They are both the same since it spreads through the body and affects your mind. Unless you have never been in love you wont understand this song. Read the lyrics properly!

  • Day 8: I set up camp but I'm running terribly low on supplies. I've lost means of communication with the outside world, and I am losing hope in ever finding superpeelam's comment.

  • @IReallyAmIronMan loool stay away from street lane#12 you go there you'll find her heheheh!

  • @IReallyAmIronMan Breaker Breaker: Attempting communications with any persons trapped deep in youtube's dead zones- anyone lost in comments 3 years of age or more please cut your search short and return to homepage, repeat, return to homepage

  • @IReallyAmIronMan Click on "View all comments". Then Push Ctrl+F , And Search For "superpeelam".

  • @PhobiaDubstep that was what I did the first time I ever tried to find a comment, I was always confused as to how people couldnt find comments

  • great song,i wish lupe still to make music like this, sadly he is not

  • The only throne im watching is Lupe Fiascos

  • That string arrangement is amazing

  • Rapgenius put it as HIV/AIDS based off a book. I believe it got something to do with the Illuminati

  • @KidSwaqa this whole aspect of a disease was a metaphor so it could relate to anything that "spreads" you know

  • I'm glad to see someone in the game that actually puts some actual thought into their lyrics.

  • I love how when you read the comments of a Lupe Fiasco video you see the word "truth" all over the place.

  • as a lover of all music and a huge hip hop fan,and after a few years of hearing this song.one of the best songs ive ever heard.

  • damn this track is nice. glad my friend sent me here. I need to quit sleeeeepin

  • This is deffinetly better than lasers

  • Comment removed

  • @niggaplz35 how do i add 10 thumb ups?

  • @goherd89 make 10 accounts

  • The lyrics in this song definitely speak the truth.

  • Oh my god he can sing aswell

  • reminds me of a zombie sickness (well duh)

  • Amen Break!

  • notice this song talkin about sex desises

  • @rejectkid12 The song is a metaphor for anything that spreads and causes destruction. It could literally be disease or fear, ignorace or hatred

  • some reason this makes me think of resdient evil apocalypse

  • i love this song they sould use this as the playoff song in the nba that whould be dope

  • this song takes me back... so many memories

  • I think that Lupe's trying to use AIDS as a metaphor for what the song is actually about, but its not about AIDS.

  • @HolyDivir The song is....amorphous.It can be used as a metaphor for anything that spreads and causes destruction.Literally disease,or fear, ignorance, hatred.

  • Wow, Lupe shows a lot of skills on this track, epic.

  • i think hes talking about aids. streets on FIRE

  • Love this some and love me some Lupe

  • I really underestimated this album , but at a second listen-through it is a nice blended mix of different types of songs and feelings.

  • Lupe is the best! If you like lupe, check a rapper named Ry Geus

  • /watch?v=ThI3_IrhvnU

  • Everything Hooks.... for real and i like lasers he spits some shit i can relate on that cd.

  • Much better than all the other (c)rap around, need more meaninful well composed songs like this

  • Fuck I'm lonely.

  • Listening to this while you read World War Z is amazing.

  • It's describing an angel of death destroying the human race via a malicious disease.

  • Love this song, it tantalizes my senses....

  • Fantastique!!

  • Food and Liquor and The Cool were so damn good, it's such a shame that lazers sucked so much

  • @SporkTsar It's all good, because we now know Lupe is dropping Food and Liquor 2 soon, so we've got another classic on the way. In the meantime, I suggest you check out the LA Riot album by Thurz, that album is certainly on the same level as this. You could always check out Kanye's MBDTF and Watch The Throne until Lupe's album finally comes out. There's plenty of classic material out there to pass around, just giving you some alternatives to Wayne and Jeezy.

  • @DJRedMEDIA See what we gotta do is continue to push artists like Lupe and Kanye so that albums like Lasers no longer appeal to the mainstream. For now though, we gotta continue to deal with the rants of Chris Brown until guys like Frank Ocean and Muzi get more credit. Anyway man, I'm hungry for some better music myself so if you know of any artists out there that have put out some great albums this year I'm all ears.

  • @DJRedMEDIA i know a lot of good instrumental songs but dunno if u like em. "Emancipator" "Nomak" "Bonobo"... I am an artist too, gonna upload some of my songs soon if u wanna check em out (im not good at mixin yet tho).

  • ah yea check out Plan B, he's makin good songs too, but often pretty pissed. his old stuff is rap, his new stuff is a mix between rap and soul, but with a good story bout an artist goin to prison even tho he's innocent

  • @kite919 Don't promote other artists on Lupe's songs.

  • @TheFKzone i was answering to DJRedMEDIA but unfortunally youtube didnt do that correctly

  • It's funny how I got more excited from learning the second verse by heart than when I got straight A's3 years in a row.

  • @superpeelam WHY does anyone like this man? Because he speaks the truth, because we can relate, because he does not degrade women, because he gives Hip Hop a GOOD name, because he INSPIRES and MOTIVATES, because he encourages positivity, because he is DIFFERENT, and because this list can go on and on, but if you failed to see why by now, don't bother listening to his music. Simple as that.

  • @fiascofan34

Because he wears skinny jeans dude.... dat nah mek it! He's dope on the mic.. but, got laughed outta the brooklyn rec center wit dem skinny jeans

  • @fiascofan34 he's washed up....we all know The Cool and Food and Liquor are classic and can never be taken away from him. But the trash he's producing now is sad.

  • @bgold1212 you do realized that he was forced to do most of those songs by Atlantic right? Why else do you think it took 4 years to produce? Lupe didnt want to release it but only did because his fans wanted him to so bad. Besides, if you listen to the lyrics of Lasers in many of the songs it is still classic Lupe. It just the beats that were made more mainstream.

  • @Asianjewmexican soooooooooo true

  • @fiascofan34 Everything you said is exactly how feel about Lupe, nothing but the truth!

  • @anealzone6 hah thank you! Lupe speaks nothing but the truth and I was just stating facts (:

  • @superpeelam It would be very much appreciated if you would slap yourself in the face sir. Thank you

  • @superpeelam I want you to go sit in a corner and think about what you just said.

  • @superpeelam There aren't even words harsh and offensive enough to describe people like you. Besides ignorant. Monkey fighting dumbass.

  • @superpeelam Looking at your recent activity, you were just spamming Lupe vids... and you liked a Tinie Tempah video... you are now irrelevant.

  • @superpeelam sooo you listen to soulja boy or somethin?

  • @superpeelam why're you listening to this for more than 4seconds after the song then?

  • @superpeelam because he is not afraid to say what he thinks. one great example is that he literatly called obama a terrioust on the oriely factor and because he is diffrent and he is a good raper and cares for the poor and homeless and other countrys in poverty, and because he is muslem and muslims are cool

  • @superpeelam Because they have functioning ears and decent taste in music. Don't worry, someday they'll find a cure for you.

  • @superpeelam IT TOOK ME MOTHS TO FIND YOUR COMMENT RAAAAGGGEEE

  • @MarcoisX *MONTHS

  • @MarcoisX What's so good about superpeelam's comment??

  • @tank555666 Nothing just made me waste my time cuz everyone was talkin about it

  • @BlackStarShotZzHD i think i finally found a comment that was worthwhile thanks!

  • this song has so much potential for a video

  • Greatest. Song. Ever.

  • @djmercilest i believe thats what this is about...who the hell said a zombie apocalypse???? WTF?? the whole second verse of the song woulnd't make sense then

  • I wish they would play this on the radio. Honestly.

  • actually its about the fear that comes 4rm ignorance

  • TRUE DAT

  • So, is Michael Young a real person or did Lupe make him up for his album

  • @kamrantahir111 lol, you mean the guy that sings in this song?

  • Its better w/o jay-z lol

  • Its ignorance, not zombie apocalypse.

  • tha chourus was stuck in my head all day

  • i luv this song:)

  • theres a new movie coming out called contagion, and this should really be the theme song it would fit perfectly.

but anyway, great song, probably his best ever inmy opinion. lupe is the greatest. ever. as the description correctly points out

  • aw man...i forgot how epic this song was :D

  • @sheckfron clearly you have no idea what your talking about he is against obama and has no problem telling you he dont spend time boastin about material shit u musta just started listening to rap or u seen some dumbass videos on youtube bout illuminati so cut the bullshit smh @ newbies and this rap shit

  • love this song but clearly hes an illuminati puppet

  • @sheckfron Lupe Fiasco would be the last rapper to be in the illuminati do you even listen to his lyrics? Shit look up words I never said by him

  • @sheckfron are you like, retarded?

  • @sheckfron did you not hear him say "Broadcasted from the masters to the masses by the antennas on the shrine"....

  • this is cool i have the beat of this song with just the chorus and me and my friends were like "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS!! WHO SINGS THIS" glad we finally found it, idk if lupe just found that beat and decided to do somethin with it or whatever but it sounds good anyway

  • Is it weird that this song always reminds me of the videogame Prototype???

  • @TheAssassin07 oh really? cause this song reminds me of the end of the world.

  • thats badass how his name is writin in the middle like that

  • I like the song but does this sign mean?

  • @sosoathomeworking The sign is a reference to "The Cool" a character that Lupe made up. The skeleton represents his boss/dad, The Game. The Game allegedly arranged to kill the Cool. The Heartlock represents the Streets, The Game's lover. A reason that The Game killed The Cool was because she was having an affair with her. The Bone Hand represtents the Cool. The Cool is too bad for hell and too bad for heaven so he is sent to stay on earth for a bigger purpose. In the Song (cont.)

  • @sosoathomeworking The Cool, Lupe says that he rises from his grave after killed and his right hand has become all bone. So basically The Cool is now a zombie. If you want to learn more research it.

  • @sosoathomeworking its a logo to a story of a boy called Micheal young history.its a story that Lupe tells through his songs. Google it and see what comes up.

  • I swear in the begining it sounds like he said"When the Stars are Align" like if you think it would be better this way lol

  • /watch?v=YAHkgAbxt6U&feature=channel_video_title

selfmade beat with a cover of this song

  • My favorite song by Lupe.

Just everything about this song is amazing

  • EZ SKYWALKER ....THE BEST ARTIST UNDERGROUND!!!

  • THERE IS SO MUCH MEANING IN SUCH A COMPLEX RHYME SCHEME. I got mind fucked breaking down just the first half of the second verse. Its GENIUS.

  • That intro is so awesome.

  • Amazing

  • This has illumunati all over it. I hope Lupe can wake this ppl up he telling u what they wont 2 do he the man

  • 20 people got the disease.

  • hes on about the secret societies etc. research it more.

  • @OneDollarWalrus this is gonna be fun, how do you figure he's talking about zombies?

  • He's singing about ZOMBIES!!

  • @OneDollarWalrus

hes definitely not rapping about zombies -__- i hope you were kidding

  • Everyone who isn't a Lupe fan MUST NOT have heard this song!
