I saw this line up on tour at the Palace live in Albany NY in 1974. Kicked serious ass. Floyde is no slacker as a lead player. Check out the mid-70's clothes - half shirts and platforms . . .ah, my high school days . . .
Magical, exiting, Hendrix sort of soloing and dynamics. I also love it how the way he moves and the gestures he makes, complement the music. Sad to know he's now tight to a chair, but it also shows what a true musician this man is.
you can't replace Mick Jagger... get him in there and you get a better version than the original one...
otherwise, i prefer the stones one...! not saying this fella plays crap. This still is a hell of a version!. Just in my opinion, it's not as good as the ohter one...
More excellent tuneage. The music fans of today have it great. A great backlog cataloge of rock they can access through Youtube and p2p plus whatever new stuff comes out.
@GravityBoy72 Oh hell, I can't say this sounds better than the original either, but it don't sound worse! He carries the song in a different direction. But DAMN! He can play. Freakin' ROASTS the lead!
Is he super tall or does he just look that way cause he's so skinny?
Also, in my opinion his singing is good but bad. Like there are certian things about his voice I like. But other parts bug me, It's actually quite bothersome :P
Why do people spend so much time trying to prove that one musician or band is better than the other? I saw Johnny play this Stones track live and the whole concert hall went crazy! Enjoy the music!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
they over cooked this version...the stones version just hits the right enough notes not to deafen the listener! Sorry all the fanboys who prefer this guy to the stones...you have some serious issues if you do. I'd like to see Van Halen give this song a crack!
@growguyuk hey man! of course this is a far out version of the original. Johnny's in great form and fantastic guitar playing but twenty storeys is a bit too high man. Perhaps 3 storeys is high enough! I like your comment. Ciao man!
I've just been to one of his concerts in Belgrade, Serbia. Yesterday, actually. He is so old. He didn't even open his eyes for the whole concert. He tried to stand at the end of the play, but couldn't. He played great though! The guitar seemed like a toy in his hands...
yes, being on stage with the stage lighting is horrible - but lovley of course as well.... :-D don´t think any kind of sunglasses would help him either... :-S the only way is to close your eyes, but I´m sure he opened them when you didn´t see it... the white eyelashes could fool you... :-)
Nah, this rendition rocks, you can't pick and choose, and say which performance was better, they are all the same, all the musicians played their asses off each time, so to suggest one is better than the other makes is look like some band members wern't maybe trying hard enuff or johnny was bored, and didn't do his best, nah, if you know johnny, you know this never ever effected his performances at all, it was ball's to tha wall, blues, scuse me mam, lmao ^5 love all of you, peace be with you
@teleevangelist - Thank you. This incessant stupid armchair-expert bickering about who is better and which version is better and all that is a crock of shite and I also am getting tired of it. Fucking shut up and listen to the tune or go do something else. Oh yeah, peace to you cunts, amen.

In the early 70's, Johhny Winter was one of the guitar gods to any young guitar player like me.
In 40 years of listening to him, no one has been able to match his combined control and passion.
I now own a Firebird V and I pretend...

He put notes in there the Stones didn''t even know existed.
Not slamming the Stones. They wrote the song.
But Winter is like "Mozart" in Amadaus.

He just did get the brilliance.

But the Stones studio version rules because they are so sleezy/creepy.
And the Keith Richard bass is just the best.
They bettered the Studio version in some immense live video they did shortly after with Jagger sing 'yeah.. yeah...' right from the off.
