"Whosoever believeth" means "the one believing" in both Greek and English. It is in the present tense. It follows that John 3:16 teaches the assurance and eternal security of the BELIEVER, not the promise of eternal salvation to all of humanity on the condition of faith. This is the simple reality of the grammar involved, despite the manifold ways that this passage has been employed as support for the well-meant offer.

John 3 16 isnt in any original manuscripts. It was removed from the bible in 1951 (rsv) but they replaced it in 1971. Dont believe me than go get an rsv bible from that time and youll see.

deserve? No. None of us have ever deserved salvation. That's why it is called the Grace of God & the Gift of God. Salvation through Jesus Christ is a gift fromGod you accept or refuse, but either way, it is nothing you or I deserve. It's kinda hard to explain w/ a few words, but the Bible explains that the people of the Old Testament looked FORWARD to a Messiah/SAvior, and we of the New Testament time look BACK to the MEssiah/Savior. Thanks for your question. There are many verses in the Bible that i have a hard time explaining or even understanding what they mean. Many verses even confuse me a little. I find that reading the entire passage around a verse or even the whole book, helps bring light to the verse. what is sad is that I am the first person to watch this because the title is 3:16. If it said atheist confessions it would have a hundred hits. If it said party girl, it would have a thousand. Just a measuring stick for society.
