This track has a strange effect on me. When i'm sad it makes me cry and when i'm happy it fills me with euphoria, don't know why I get both emotions from it.
This is my interpretation. From the music around 2:30, it sounds like a carnival. The compound eye is a child. Tears from the compound eye. The child is crying at the carnival. Still, why is the child crying?
@sirbikesalot Not really bud I smoke often and really BoC doesn't make a difference on what state of mind you're on, either way your going to be moved by their beautiful tunes.
This song and "Slow This Bird Down" are two of my favorites from the campfire headphase. I just wish they included "Macquarie Ridge" on all the releases...it's really the perfect end to the album. On a side note, has anyone pondered what the the compound eye is seeing that is causing to cry?
i read a dumb blog for some dumb mag that said this album proved that BOC wasnt very good...i almost puked, went through seven stages anger denial, numbness..et al. what a joke.
One of the best songs to listen to whilst smoking a spliff and watching the sunrise :)

at 2:00, the sun comes up behind the horizont of a vast, greenlandic landscape.

The song makes me think of some kind of drug induced euphoria. Like a mental patient humming a tune to himself in his own happy little world.

I have a feeling that this song has a similar meaning like "Walking City" by Miho Hatori i.e.
that insects have an important role in how humans communicate with nature.

This song...I don't know quite what to say about it.
I want to be in my mother's womb again.

I got the feeling it was a kind of happy yet sad song. Like, there is a tinge of sorrow in the uplifting sound.

Has anyone listened to this song in reverse?
It is just as moving as the original song.

It's odd how many interpretation you can come up with this.
Right now, it makes me think of the last moments before a peaceful death, with Farewell Fire following as the funeral.

I interpreted that the eye was crying from nostalgic memories or its current sense of loneliness, but that's just me.

Actually, I think it's about the destruction of the insect's home due to progress. I feel it has some sort of nature theme.

My sentiments exactly. These are my two favourites on the album also macquarie ridge, so hard to find, they should have included it.

This song is something to listen to on those dark, rainy days alone.
It's like you are numb from love and pain.
An unusual feeling....

This music proves that humanity can sometimes produce something that's actually worth it.

this piece should be used for the first Half Life movie. just a thought.
is sounds mysteriously and strangely epic.

I agree.

@MekaGabe actually the melody of this song is based on a movie score. it's the main theme from the 2003 psychological horror drama 'love object'.
