  • Hackintosh?

  • This monitor has a 2ms response time, not 5ms as stated in the video. This is why it's ideal for gaming

  • This is probably the best choice if you want to play games and watch movies with reasonable price.

  • So I listen to your full review and I have to admit it was a good review, my only question is can I hook a hdmi cable that my xbox came with to this monitor?

  • @iTzKINGToXIC Yes you can.

  • can you show a video of you playing call of duty or something. I have a ps3 and i want to monitor for gaming and this looks like a good one

  • @9mariners I guess, the quality wont translate well over YouTube but I can assure you that once you go ASUS you never go back. The 2ms response and the contrast ratio between colors gives you a remarkable gaming advantage. I actually hate gaming on even the best TVs now just because how good it is to game on a gaming monitor.

  • @9mariners im actually getting mine in less than a week, ill post up a video, and let you know how it works

  • I just bought the 22" model... as a 2nd monitor for my Dell XPS Studio 16 laptop... after watching reviews... one of the reviews was this one...

  • @bottigle I'm seriously fucking done with you, blocked

  • Just do yourself a favor: Learn how a PC actually works. Then build yourself a real computer that is far more powerful and far less expensive than anything that comes our of Cupertino.

  • @bottigle 2 things, stop making troll wars, a review is what I think about the product, if you don't like my thoughts, than leave a comment saying so and leave. Second off, I have built computers before, I personally don't care too much for hardware though. I'm a programmer, I care more about software.... Also I use mac because I code in Xcode and use Apple's APIS, I own a gaming PC I built and a Sony Vaio.

  • I can tell you're a Mac user:

1080p has 1080 horizontal scan lines. The "p" in 1080p stands for progressive scan, not ppi.

Also, it would be helpful if you included the MODEL # in your review. So typical of a Mac user. Simply calling it an Asus gaming monitor is useless. Also, the screen size is not 23.5", it is 23.6".

Finally, how the hell do you plan on "gaming" with this monitor on your Mac? Why waste the time, money, and energy to game on something inferior to an Xbox 360?

    Have fun...

  • @bottigle Oh boy I love trolls

    I can tell you're a PC user.

When I made this video I was a bit un educated on monitors and didn't know anything about resolutions, now I basically 100% understand it.

Also, you're lazy and didn't check the description, huge sign of a PC user. Check it, tell me what you see...

Finally, I use it on the Mac because of it's size and game on my Xbox using VGA.

Also, a huge show that you're a PC user is you're seeking out Mac users to bash in any way possible.

  • any1 know whats the version of hdmi 1.1 or 1.3?

  • Ewwwwwwwww a Mac 0_o barf

  • @SnowboardPlata lol...you must really hate movies, music, games considering Mac is used to make/edit pretty much all of those....sorry if you can't figure out how to use one;)

  • @TheMouser9900 dude no games EVER in the world of gaming was EVER made on a mac..... Most games are wrote and made on linux retard. And guess what apple did to create Mac OS..... They wrote the macintosh Os off linux you retard.. Apple never created there os from scratch like windows did. Linux and Windows will be forever ahead in the gaming and movie industry then you think. Apple products are for gays and little kids.

  • @MrMindru94 Yes.

  • Hi ... I'm trying to hook up an Asus VE198 to an iMac. There is a VGA cord and a DVI cord ... no idea what either one is, nor where they are supposed to plug in on the iMac ... can you offer some elightenment?

    :-)

  • @MrsNorris55 The iMac uses a Mini-Display port due to the class of graphics card that Apple now uses. You will need to buy an adapter that is either Mini-Display port to DVi or VGA. I will Private Message you the link to where you can buy this.

  • @MrMacFreek *aarrgghh* Shoulda guessed this wouldn't be simple ... Thanks!

    :-)

  • @MrsNorris55 Yah, I just sent the message to you, it actually isn't as complicated as you think, it just costs a little. Happy to help!

  • @MrMacFreek please send the link to me, too

  • Wait wait... this your 'gaming' monitor and your on a mac mini? Nice review but I don't think much gaming is coming out of that thing...

  • @Hijjax I use my 360 on it, my soon to be PS3, and I also run Minecraft on Mac, CS 1.6 on Bootcamp and Cod 4 on bootcamp. Thanks for the comment =P.

  • Amazing monitor for an incredible price.

$189.00 on Newegg.com right now and comes with a free 6 foot hdmi cable!...if this is too big for those of you reading look at the other Asus monitors...they are all priced crazy low on Newegg as well:)

  • @TheMouser9900 Yeh, and this is a year old now, you can find even better monitors from ASUS now with built in webcams and better features. ASUS has always made a quality product, their probably my second favorite company for monitor quality.

  • is it also possible to watch TV on this monitor without using a computer?

  • @youmayfcukthebride If you have a cable box or some sort of input using VGA DVI or HDMI.

  • Not a Mac guy, but thank you for the review on the monitor!

  • @conradlamyuen Man I wish all comments were like yours, half of the people who watch the review learn a ton about the monitor and such but still complain that I use a Mac. I own a PC and have Windows dual booted on my Mac. I think Windows and Mac are two equally good but stronger in some ways than another.

  • @MrMacFreek Yeah. A little appreciation toward your efforts to record and post a video up on Youtube.

Im in IT, and I agree on the strong points of the two very different OSs; Two different animals, serving two different purposes. Like I said, this was a great review on the monitor, and awesome setup vid. I just bought a new Xbox, and was looking into getting this monitor to go with it to game on. You offered the information needed to make an informed decision on my purchase. Thanks again.

  • @conradlamyuen Exactly, and thanks for the comment.

  • ewwwwwwwww a mac!!!

  • @codzorz1 ewwww a loser geek

  • @SOLIDSNAKEXXX360 Took the words right from my mouth.

  • @SOLIDSNAKEXXX360 thats right!

  • Well i do agree as a gaming monitor it would be a waste on an apple.. but despite your lack of knowledge i did see what i wanted and that was a comparison in size. so thank you macfreak

  • @DarkPagan2035 I should probably appologize in the description of this video. This was made a year ago I believe, when I barely new anything about display technology, if you need to know anything specific about the monitor ask me with a comment, that's the point. Also like I said many times before, when I got this I had a gaming rig, and even now I use Windows 7/XP on my Mac for gaming with games such as BFBC2, WaW, MW2, Cod4, and L4D, and god it looks beautiful on all of those games.

  • I like how you say gaming monitor while your using a mac... what a waste of a monitor.

  • @MrJustinJohnston haha ya, im getting this for my gaming rig.

  • @MrJustinJohnston I only use mac since I enjoy the UI for consumer based use. I have Windows 7 and XP dual booted on my mac with games like CoD MW2 CoD 4 Nazi Zombies, Battlefield BC2. And some old classics like CS 1.6. I'm sorry for the fact that I was showing the display on the Mac side. Don't make a big deal out of it though. And it is a gaming class monitor btw.

  • 3:59 to 4:08

Sounds like you we're talking about something else besides screen size :P

Anyway, nice video! This moniter looks fantastic.

  • Oh and the P does not stand for Pixels per inch, LOL. It stands for Progressive (pertaining to horizontal scan)

  • @IamApple Yah this was made a good year ago before I had any knowledge on those types of things, it's changed a lot now and now that look back to this video I realize how bad I was at explaining things like that.

  • @MrMacFreek haha, I WISH my monitor was 1080 Pixels per inch, then my resoulution would be like 25,000 LOL

  • @IamApple Did I really say that the 1080 in 1920x1080 means your PPI, thats pretty dumb. Yah isnt is like you divide 1080 buy how many sq inches are you your screen to get ppi. I think mu ppi is like 180.

  • My god what a waste of time.. some retard who knows nothing about monitors talking about how awesome a big monitor is because his old one was only 15"

    this is NOT a review.

  • @IamApple Waste, of time? The purpose of a review is to give you my opinion personally on the product I'm reviewing. My whole purpose of this video is to show you a cheap monitor to buy if you are looking to switch to widescreen, which is why I emphasized the fact of the difference between my 15" btw that 15" is my old secondary monitor to my old 23" nonwidescreen which was nothing compared to this.

  • will this connect to a standard white macbook?

    thanks

  • @eddiepeps1009 Yes but you would need to buy the video adapter for DVI, VGA or HDMI.

  • @MrMacFreek thanks

  • Rofl....Macs....gaming.

  • @DannyGWarrior Steam recently just came out for the Mac. Also 98% of all PC titles are now avaliable on the Mac platform and on top of that if I really need that 2% I use Boot Camp to run Win 7 on my Mac. Feel the change?

  • @MrMacFreek Uhhh, ahaha 98%? Where'd that statistic come from? A macfan blog?

Man macs probably have a total of 5% of windows games. Windows is still top as far as PC gaming. True about boot camp, but good luck running it completely smooth without an errors. There's zero change, sorry.

  • @DannyGWarrior Actually if anything its at least 50% first off. Second off 5%? whered you get that from a 3 year old article. Recently Mac allowed Open GL and CL to there market due to success in the App Store gaming market. They also opened up to DX 9 10 on the Mac platform which is why Microsoft made a recent partnership with Apple in the PC department. This is why Steam created a Mac Client.

  • @MrMacFreek A couple of 3 year old windows based games that recently came to Mac and it's revolutionary. Give me atleast 5 PC games from 09-10 made for Mac OS, non bootcamp. The movement of games to Mac is barely significant, perhaps in a couple years they might begin to get newer games, but considering that you can't upgrade your own components.

  • @DannyGWarrior Wow you are just full of it and very tenacious like most PC Fanboys who need to use gaming as a reason why Macs suck. Why can't you jsut accept it. Half the things you are saying are false also.

  • @MrMacFreek PC....fanboy....Mac......is a PC. wat?

Macs are fine computers, overpriced like shit, but they're ok, I just don't ever see the point in over paying for something when you can find something cheaper, but hey competition is great for us consumers, it keeps companies on their toes, to be honest, the first apple computer I've used was the Macintosh back around 1995, and I fucking LOVE Woz, but I fucking hate this faggot steve jobs, he's so full of himself.

  • @MrMacFreek Accept....what exactly?

  • @DannyGWarrior Windows runs perfect under bootcamp...

  • Websites are not formated to fit at all - they are coded in what's called water layouts that stretch to the resolution of the viewer using Pure css div layouts. Mac just has to be awkward with bothering the user to constantly re-size windows all the time to view shit properly. Windows 7 fixes this problem.

One question: Have you found a monitor that that makes mac os look cool as it does on imac? Because i have found Leopard looks grainy boring and dull on anythink but a mac monitor

  • @NeoReloaded00 This display does it quite well but I mean the iMac is a 1920x1080 resolution so I mean look for something to that effect and with a glossy screen cause thats also half the battle

  • @MrMacFreek Your right about the glossy display and the 1920x1080 resolution. I had a great HP display that got me close but the apple displays are just to hard to emulate.

    Cheers for the responce :-)

  • Is this good for gaming.

  • @xGAMINGFREAKx Definitely for sure this is one of the best displays I have used for gaming. the 2MS response time allows you to respond quick to the images on display, the 20,000:1 contrast ratio allows for great ability to spot enemies for example at long distances and also the resolution of 1080p helps alot for that too. I game on the Xbox 360/PC on this display in Cod4 GB, PC ProMod and it helps a ton.

  • @MrMacFreek Do you have to program it so it could play your Xbox 360 or press a button the screen or you just turn on the xbox and it starts

  • @xGAMINGFREAKx You press a button on the display to change the input similar to any other TV or display.

  • Whats the best way to connect to it to get the best picture? I am thinking about getting this monitor for my dorm room

  • @smitty33092 DVI

  • hey man :D

    good review

i bought this monitor as an external monitor for my MacBook Pro, but I'm finding it hard to find a good setting :(

    what are your settings?

    thanls ;)

  • how have you got it connected? vga or dvi? because i have this monitor connected via vga to my macbook and the image quality is terrible....

  • @saundersco I've used all 3 types (HDMI, DVI, and VGA) Try making sure the plug is in right, then go to settings on the Mac and make sure the resolution is at 1920x1080. If none of that works try a different cable, this may also cause the problems if there is a bad cable. And of course if worse really comes to worse call ASUS tech support.

  • how have you got it connected? vga or dvi? because i have this monitor connected via vga to my macbook and the image quality is terrible....

  • I heard in a few reviews that people were getting a flicker problem with these like a few months after purchase, can anyone back that up? Cause I'm thinking of getting one. Thanks

  • @xxkmanxx Hmm haven't had any problems with that at all, things still running strong and is almost on 24/7. I do have 1 dead pixel but thats normal for about a year of use.

  • @MrMacFreek alright thats cool. But are you saying that pixels will start dying after a decent amount time and use?

  • @xxkmanxx No Im just saying the average monitor will have at least one dead pixel within a year. A monitor that is LCD generally gains a dead pixel or 2 every year or so

  • WOW! So much space!

    Thanks, captain obvious.

  • @rpmvl Well the point of this review is to show how much of a difference a 20"+ monitor has from your standard monitor. Not many people understand that you can get a 20" for pretty cheap and even those who do understand that wont get one because they don't understand the bonuses. Mabye you own a 20" but not everyone does... thats what review are for...

  • Could you please measure the length of the monitor (not including the bezel)? I'm looking for a monitor for portrait display next to my 42" and would like one as close as possible to it's height.

  • 20 1/5"

  • It's the perfect size! If only they made an IPS panel in that size..

  • actually the "P" in 1080p stands for progressive scan meaning it places each pixel line down in order 1, 2, 3, 4, while 1080i stands for interlaced where it places every other line of pixels down 1,3, 5, 7 then 2,4,6,8 so next time do some research before you do a review

  • what kind of mac do you have?

  • Mac Mini Early 2009

  • Why didn't you go for 16:10? You date fat, short chicks too?

  • how to tilt

  • great vid and great review, im thinkin bout gettin 2 26inch monitors to replace my 22inch and my 28inch monitors because im buying a mac pro

  • try a 60 in lol now thats how to get some work done lol

  • Yah lol dont have 1,000 + to throw around but if I did that would be awesome, especially for playing games

  • Yes actually I did lol. It works great and allows 1080p with 16:9 aspect ratio. I still think VGA or DVI is more suitable but its great

  • Comment removed

  • Does your monitor have glossy or matte screen?

  • matte

  • Great overview, thanks

  • that's it, i gotta get this. it'll be my first step towards a new gaming PC and i'll use it as a secondary display for my imac until i save enough for a gaming PC!

looks really nice on a mac!

  • Got the same one and I love it. Its so cool because I have my PS3 (HDMI), Xbox 360 (VGA), and PC (DVI) all plugged in at once. All I have to do to switch it is press the input button once or twice. And I even got the VGA from the Xbox to send 1080p, and it looks just as good as the PS3. I also have the output from my PC and 360 routed to a second 17 inch monitor, so I can just use the computer while gaming or run two games at once when my friends visit.

  • get a windows 7 computer

  • Actually I have Windows on my mac and its just fine

  • ok that's cool. best of both worlds.

  • what mac do you have? just curious

  • Mac Mini

  • Nice review, Just ordered 2 of these for xmas. Will be arriving on thursday. So psyched.

  • Thanks man

  • if you hide the dock you can get some more room out of your screen :)

  • Never thought of that, thanks for the tip

  • Your review states 5ms response, its 2ms, right?

  • Yah sorry bout that, didnt realize I made that mistake.

  • i have the same one. but its a 22.5

  • Just a quick correction. The "p" in 1080p does not stand for "pixels". It stands for "progressive scan".

There are two modes, "interelaced" or "i" and "prograsive" or "p".

  • 23.6 not 23.5 :|

  • what kind of finish does the screen have, is it a matte finish or a more glossy finish.

  • matte finish

  • like the review.. i got tired of watching people just unbox the thing so stupid.. im getting the 23" tomorrow do you know how I should hook it up to my PC is it better DVI or HDMI?

and about that "spaces" program do you know of an equivelant to Windows OS?

  • For gaming DVI keeps up better, HDMi is good quality for a computer though

  • DVI and HDMI are exactly the same... HDMI is only different because it has audio with it.

  • Do you know why my Asus monitor screen sometimes gets gree?

  • Green? wel it could be if your OS is on 32 bit coloring, or your graphics card doesn't support it

  • I've gotten the green before on my samsung 19" lcd but it was because the cable in the back was loose

  • Yh that can be the problem also, but most of the time, it is the graphic card

  • still don't understand why they made a 23.5 over a 24"

nice lcd though, getting one soon

  • Yah ASUS is amazing, not on dead pixel at all, most LCDs have 1 or 2

  • nice im getting one in a couple days

  • your reviewing kinda reminds me of jon4lakers. just slightly.

    good job :D

  • Yah I''m a big fan of his and really try to aim for his expertise

  • keep up the good work

  • very nice :)

  • Thanks

  • What model is this? I could only find the VK242H which is 23.6".

  • VH236

  • Ok thanks. It's a nice monitor. My friend has got the VH236H, but his is 23.0".

  • I have the 23" ASUS ... got it several weeks ago. It's just amazing... with my Mini and X360!

  • Yah that's exactly waht I use it for

  • Wow very discrptive video i think i might get that moniter i have a 19" Unknown brand :L

I think if you had spare money to buy a surround sound system 5.1 is what i have.

    Great Videos is usial!

  • Thanks!
