I'm glad to know that there are a few americans left who care about their decisions enough to know what they're talking about. Unfortunately, it seems you've gotten far too many media-brainwashed liberals trying to force their less-than-perfect logic on you. Of course, not one of them has made a valid, real argument that wasn't just regurgitation of the fashionable opinions they've heard on SNL, CNN and all the other wannabe news sources that plague the attention of americans today.
Aha, you're blaming the Community Reinvestment Act. You need to watch Cspan hearings, the experts call that accusation insidious. The govt tried to help little people too much?! You're hung up in Repub ideology of tax and spend liberals. You're mindset is just wrongheaded.
I never said the CRA was the only cause. It was instrumental in the "everyone deserves to afford a house" mindset, that and Bush's "go out and spend" message after 9/11. The problem was everyone spent on credit, and the actions of the GSEs, negligent Democrats and community organizing groups like ACORN led the citizens of the US into a gaping hole of bad subprime mortgages. Yes, the government got involved where it shouldn't have. My mindset is "rightheaded".
Your mindset is partially right. I actually agree w/you on the credit and homeownership issues. But even one CNN economic expert in a roundtable dismissed the CRA blame game as a cause of the international financial mess is absurd. Read the article in The Nation 7/14 issue "The Subprime Swindle, How Banks Stole Black America's Future. Your wrongheadness is your blindness to the opportunism of mortgage lenders to rip off that process. And the ACORN claim insults your intelligence.
You're right, this is also about the opportunism of the mortgage lenders. But there wouldn't have been that opportunity were it not for the bad regulation. The GSEs like Fannie and Freddie could guarantee whatever mortgaged they pleased, and they often acted as the "middlemen" for the other private lenders. I didn't say the CRA and ACORN were the only causes. It was a variety of contributing factors, a "perfect storm" that caused the credit crisis.
Very well stated! If Obama gets in & has the support of both houses of Congress, we will get change alright,,,change from which America may never recover. Obama said it best when he said he was going to "spread the wealth around" & give the guy behind you a chance Guess what, America? He does have a chance--it's called freedom & democracy This guy is so dangerous it is frightening He will kill the economy, entrepreneurship, and the American dream Hope more of our youth r like this young kid!
You just don't know what you're talking about, imbued with, the 40 yr old Republican propaganda. Guess watch. If he wins he'll have a mess on his hands. But he won't kill the economy. The last 30 yrs of de-regulation fm Reagan to Phil Gramm to Bush and unfettered rampant capitalism run amock is what has almost killed the economy, at home and globally.
Unfettered capitalism? What the hell is that? Greed, greed, and more greed have killed this country. Giving loans to morons who can't afford to pay them pack is anticapitalistic--capitalism bites u in the butt if you don't follow the principles--now we're all left holding the bag--u can't buy the American dream, u earn it! Barney Frank(the gay sloberer) and Chris Dodd have left us in this mess, as well as Obama's pals, Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson!
The blame falls equally upon Republicans and Democrats. If you think the greed falls on the democrats alone I have a bridge to nowhere in Alaska you might be interested in. We can do w/o the gay bashing. It's clear where you and our host here spend your time, lapping up the rt wing media linear thinking propaganda. Enuf said.
Someone else has done their research as well. The first stock market crash was caused by overzealous overspeculation and greed. Same this time, except banks had the GSEs to help them out. The country would have been in a bad recession for a year or two, but would have fixed itself. But just like back then, the government has to step in and try to fix things, while idiots like Kerry want another New Deal. This bailout is about as socialist and un-American as you can get. Trust capitalism!
Dude you give me hope for our future youth. You are intelligent and very articulate for your age. I have five kids. The oldest is 16. I hope to raise them so they can see through to the deeper aspects of life like you. Good job on the videos. Keep it up! Tell your parents they did a good job.
So...you are saying that rather than change....you want us to keep fighting the war (which is another Vietnam) and keep letting our economy drown down? McCain is a supporter of the bailout plan, he wants to fight the war, and wants a spending freeze on everything but necessary items and war. Hmmm....that sounds alot like George W. if you ask me...
There isn't much arguing with a liberal when it comes to the Iraq War (which is not Vietnam), but I'm making a new video about the war, and I'll let that be my response.
I don't like that McCain supported the bailout, but since Obama supported it too, it doesn't really matter much, does it?
The spending freeze is to weed out the most wasteful of our government projects, which is needed: not $800 billion in new spending, which makes what we spend in Iraq look like chump change.
McCain is much different from Bush in that he is not afraid to veto a bill full of wasteful spending. Bush was a fan of "compassionate conservatism", and didn't veto a single thing in office until a bill for stem cell research. In other words, he was conservative in all the wrong places. I don't like all of McCain's policies (cap-and-trade on emissions is just stupid), but his plans are infinitely better than The One's.
Liberal? Haha...I live in Texas my friend, I am all out conservative. I am also very Liberal on certain issues, but for the most part conservative/pragmatic.
If you honestly believe that we can't succeed in Iraq, that the Iraq war is seriously comparable to Vietnam, where the casualties were 93% greater, I'm sorry, but I question just how conservative you are. About the only legitimate comparison one could apply to Iraq and Vietnam are the potential results we would face were we to surrender and give up now. Iraq would become a quagmire of competing powers, and therefore a haven for those who wish us harm.
I don't doubt we can win....I doubt we can afford to keep fighting. I can see the Iraq war being fought for much longer than only 2 years. There is no way we can afford it and keep out economy afloat. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial...
Why can't we afford to keep fighting? The longer we stay, the more security improves. If our economy can survive this ugly bailout (although I don't know about an Obama presidency), we can afford to stay in Iraq. However, it isn't just about the money: we need to stay in Iraq for security of our country and the future of the region. Starting a democracy in the Middle East is the first step to stopping terrorism. Freedom is not free.
Did you just ask me why can't we afford to stay in Iraq? Going to Iraq protecting the U.S. from what? Insurgents in Iraq are dumb as fuck. They are like rats. The only thing we need to protect, in terms of terrorism, is our national airlines. Other than that...its all up to the Iraqi government, which is jacked up fubar as of this moment. They are not like us....they have no unity, and the only thing we are doing there is not to fight off terrorism. Terrorism is in Afghanistan.
Just watch my new video when it uploads. I won't be able to get back to the computer for a while after that, so bear with me if I'm slow on any responses.

You missed my point. Of course WWII got cntry OUT of depression. On your other observations... is there any proof New Deal helped? You're kidding... global warming as lot of hooey... that alone makes it easy for me to dismiss you. My point was FDR was elected and reelected 4 times in times of great stress... it's what killed him at what, 63? And that Obama won't be a second Hitler. This isn't broken Germany of 80 yrs ago after WWI w/Jews to scapegoat, tho there are those who wld try if cld.
Your last paragaraph here is simplistic. Obama's response to freeze prevents fm scalpeling and keeping I don't like bailout either, but no choice in interlocked world economy. When word was out Lehman was going under, in company gym someone punched Richard Fuld, CEO who walked away w/$385M golden parachute. Remember Colin Powell told Bush on Iraq, you break it it's ours. Why didn't you sign up, you're of age, you cld have ended up w/traumatic brain injury, or loss of limbs and a Purple Heart.
Of course we have a choice! Why reward businesses that go under and tax businesses that are doing well? That just results in stagnation and even more unemployment. "Government jobs" don't help either, because taxpayers foot the paycheck. We need deregulation (TRUE deregulation), a lowering of taxes on businesses and individuals, or even major tax reform (although that'll never happen with a Democratic Congress).
This isn't just simple Economics 101. You're ignoring the complex mess created by 30 yrs of deregulation, manipulation of markets, the subprime mess, taking advantage of stupid people willing to be steered into mortgages they can't afford, not checking income/assets, when they were eligible for regular mortgage rates. But when rates skyrocketed that's when the vultures made their money. To coin your phrase, no use arguing w/a supply sider, old trickle down theory, the "Urinal Theory."
Business was booming under Bush! The subprime mess is recent, the manipulation of the market was led by the GSEs and enabled by Democrats, and the pervading mindset that "everyone has a right to afford a house", set into motion by, yes, Jimmy Carter and the CRA. Clinton gave it teeth. GSEs are a form of regulation, bad regulation, that no one allowed an eye to be kept on. No one regulated the regulators!
You probably wldn't read The Nation article I just cited. You can google it. The Nation has existed since 1865 w/those commie muckrakers who exposed J.D. Rockefeller's monopoly on oil driving everyone out of business, led to T.Roosevelt's stand on breaking monopolies. Economists pointed out also, that CRA was miniscule in broader mortgage ripoff. You're wrong. You're also 150% wrong to blame ths on democrats alone. Phil Gramm was the champion of total deregulation. Good regulation is needed.
You can make the argument that good regulation is needed, but we have seen that the government can't regulate! The GSEs were created by the government and were meant to act as market regulators. They and other private lenders took advantage of this bad legislation. Watch the video in the sidebar where Republicans called for regulation of Fannie and Freddie while the Democrats insisted that nothing was wrong. Deregulation is the answer because private companies have to pay for their mistakes.
Not everyone is cut out for the military. That is why we appreciate those that do serve. Undermining my arguments by saying I'm not willing to fight is a low blow.
It wasn't meant to be a low blow, it was meant to point out how easily you (and the white haired old men and idiots like Bush) want to send them off. I wish I cld cite a perfect point I read days ago, that Saddam wld eventually have been weak enough to get rid of. The infrastructure of Iraq was destroyed, when we marched in the remnants of his military were scattered all over the place. The neocon goal was to rearrange the map of the middle east in their interests.
I want to go to college more than anything in the world. There is a girl that I love who is planning on going with me. I am optimistic about my future and what is in store for me. I would rather not serve in the military.
My mindset has always been this: if my country had need of me, really had need, I would be drafted. If that were the case, I would go unhesitatingly and proudly. Until then, I thank God for those that are willing to give up so much so that we enjoy our freedom.
I have friends that will be in Iraq soon. I don't just agree with the war without a thought for those fighting. There are things that are worth the fighting for, that require us to fight. I believe in our mission in Iraq.
Iraq is about oil and control of the map. We had 2 oil crises in '70's and what did gluttonous America do? Carter's speech was called a "malaise" when he talked of environmental change. Response was Reagan's morning in America, his fantasy of alabaster city on a hill. We got Dallas, Dynasty, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, conspicuous consumption thru the roof and the SUV, the American male's last bastion of the buckin' bronco at what 10 mi to the gallon?! 2008 and 4,000 dead/maimed for OIL
Humor me and look up how much oil we got from Iraq. And why shouldn't we go to war for oil? We need oil. New fuel technology is not yet affordable on a large scale, and it certainly wasn't in the 70s. Carter's argument wouldn't have much weight now either, because reducing our demand will not reduce prices with China and India on the rise. Iraq was to stop a dictator and decrease the overall terrorist threat. Even if Iraq was a "war for oil", maybe if we drilled at home we wouldn't need it!
"Humor me" now you're being a wiseass? Yes, USA doesn't get much oil fm Iraq, sooo... why were Cheney, Woolfowitz, etc. willing to send Americans bo die for it? You know, I can't do this w/you. Your mindset shows in ev statement you make. It was easy for you to ask that ? and follow w/"we need oil." You have no soul. That's what makes America scary, Jesus, don't corner us. We're willing to blow up a cntry, they're just more little brown people. Point is we cld've started chg 30 yrs ago.
"why were Cheney, Woolfowitz, etc. willing to send Americans bo die for it?"
Maybe because... it wasn't about oil! Maybe it was about toppling a dictator that practiced genocide, and establishing a democracy in a region where governments harbored terrorists!
And the technology wasn't ready to "change" 30 years ago, and the government mandating better technology doesn't help anything! That's why we get crap like ethanol that doesn't accomplish anything. The market is changing on its own right now, "green" is in. Companies are doing it without the government. Obama likes to say that NASA was a government organization, and it went to the moon. What he fails to mention is that the lunar mission was fueled by private companies!
cont. We've been tooling around outer space for 40 yrs, but cldn't start conversion to alternatives?! 1st oil crisis '73 there was talk of car fm 1940's that cld get close to 50 MPG. Big oil cut off that possibility. The Prize, doc on PBS 10 yrs ago talked of collusion of H. Ford Sr and big oil to destroy mass transit in this cntry. I convinced my brother back in '73 sent him a Newsweek column (mainstream!)He said he'd cut off both Michael's legs before he'd let him go to war. Read House of Bush
