  • As Bob would say! :)

  • Somebody should beat the devil out of this guy.

  • Why are you doing a " wet on wet ' on a dry canvas ??

  • @jeanmunn The canvas isn't dry there are transparent colors over it. Those colors, if memory serves me correctly it's Indian Yellow/Dark Sienna on the top, Pthalo Blue on the bottom) See, Bob Ross was smart and designed these paints to work unlike regular oil paints that are made at the same consistency. The opaque colors like Red and White and Black are VERY firm and dry but the transparent/semi-transparent colors are made to a much thinner consistency that enables you to work with them

  • @jeanmunn to work with them as an undercoating. I've seen Bob do this, not use the Liquid Clear...probably before he came out with the product he would just use the transparent paints. My reason for doing it this way was mainly to cut down the glare. I may also have been out of liquid clear. Thanks for your comment! :)

  • @jeanmunn ok I was able to find an example of what I mean by coating your canvas with transparent color. Series 28 of the Joy of Painting, Painting 13 "Home Before Nightfall" It starts with showing Bob finishing up scrubbing the canvas with Pthalo Blue, never using the liquid clear in this step of the painting.

  • can you do the wet on wet style painting with Acrylic paints if you use a retarder?

  • would acrylic work for this?

  • hey if you mean the underpainting that's EXACTLY what you want, and it works great. i really prefer starting on a black canvas, makes it a lot easier. Thanks for your question!

  • @twinket76 I've been painting in the BR technique now for 4 years. I really love it! It's my solace. Did you put a thin even coat of the liquid clear on this black gesso canvas before you started this painting? I find that liquid clear makes it soooo much easier to apply the transparent paints. Good job! I made my easle out of a 5' wooden step ladder and it works pretty good. Thanks for the video!

  • @oceansdoor normally i use the liquid clear but i either was out of it or concerned about the extra glare from the lighting. easel sounds good, just like BR made one just like that out of an old step ladder. thanks for your comment and question!

  • can I just ask, was ya black canvas wet or dry?

  • @trisha3397 the black paint is acrylic and allowed to completely dry before painting oils on top of it.

  • i love this..."i should probably just shut up"...ha, i love bob ross

  • It's strange how it seems so bright when Im watching it. It looks like a real light. lol

  • It's good to see that Bob Ross' legacy is still carrying on strong even a decade after his death. I grew up watching Joy of Painting, so this is nostalgia of the highest order for me.

  • Thanks. BR's legacy has changed my life, I'd be lost without the things I've learned from him. Having said that, BR learned from William Alexander, something I've only been aware of for about the past year thanks to YouTube.

  • A lefty ... cool. I kept thinking something is off in this video .... but it was just my right hand brain thinking crazy watching a lefty...........

COOl Work ... I like the dark background.

  • thanks so much for the tip :o) if your ever in NYC and hold a class definitely post it- you would be a good teacher

  • great work. does the black gesso hav to be completely dry? Did the indian yellow, dark sienna, and sap green have to be dry before you started- did u apply them right after you applied the gesso? How long did you wait for after applying the gesso to start painting?

  • Im learning on my own and was curious i know i seem like the question queen :o)

  • The black gesso is an acrylic-based primer that needs to be completely dry before applying either the liquid white or transparent colors. It can take upwards of an hour to fully dry. The paint will look very dull and flat when dry. The indian yellow, dark sienna, and sap green are NOT allowed to dry. If this were to happen, my sky would have been pure white in this painting rather than a golden color from the mix of indian yellow and dark sienna.

  • I'm curious how/where do you get transparent colors?

  • Very impressive. Nice job!!

  • absolutely amazing! great job! =]

  • Brilliant painting.

  • sorry, did you use liquid clear at this painting? Very nice job by the way ;)

  • no, i just scrubbed transparent colors (indian yellow, dark sienna & sap green) over the canvas. that's all you need, the liquid clear will allow you to put a thin layer of color which makes a nice glaze but i wanted strong color in this one.

  • cool technique, keep at it!

  • Nice work man, keep it like that!! I don't get how did you do the transparent color efect at the beginning? you buy the transparent color or what do you mixed with to get them?

  • thanks! indian yellow, dark sienna, and sap green were scrubbed over the black canvas in a thin, even layer with a 2inch and 1inch brush. the paints are just regular bob ross paints used in this technique. hope that helped.

  • awesome job man but when I watched Bob Ross paint I always started to feel tired maybe because it was such a calm show or something

  • This is great! The legend of Bob lives on! I think he'd be extremely proud that someone is following in his footsteps.

  • Top as Bob

While trying to answer a question in yahoo-clever (the German derivative of yahoo-smart?) i encountered your video.

Seems hard to find the original.

What are 1000 lawyer on the ground of the ocean?

    Where's your squirrel?

    Can you Paint?

    Yes u can! ;)

  • Addon

You'r not a Schaebisches Spielbergle like Herr Emmerich. Got to the Net Flanders Shop and buy a cam-position for lefty(like me;). An a second footlight?

  • hey good job ... I'm german ... I hope you got more vids for us

  • hi and thanks! yes i'm hoping to make some new vids soon.

  • Sweet Stuff Twinket. I see some people commenting on some of your other videos of this painting , bitching about how your not original , mimicking Bob Ross ect ect ...

I say Ignore them, because I do the same exact thing you. I too paint Bob ross, i watch his videos daily, and while at work. I taught myself just from watching and mimicking him. I even do all his little sayings he does while I paint.

  • Thanks! It's great to hear from people who "get it." As Bob would say, painting is as individual as there are people...it's impossible to copy even if we tried. There will always be great similarities to Bob's work just because the tools are all designed to create the same effects Bob teaches, but most wet on wet artists can see the difference, so again, thank you for your comment!

  • I like how you made the mountains seems so distant.

  • thanks. i try!!

  • My god, I havent slept for eight days, you've cured my minsomniaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

nah just messin goooooooooooooooooooooooooood painting though

  • hahaha thanks Groover!

even funnier because i only slept for half an hour last night.

  • "I should probably shut up" haha.

    nice job man.

  • beautiful painting and cute narrative. don't think that you need to "stop talking." you're doing a great job and making bob proud. :)

  • this is great! I love BOB ROSS!!!! do you have a deviant art website??? If you don't have one you should get one...that's what I use and it's great!!! GOOD JOB!

  • Have a nice tall glass of you suck..

  • Daddy didnt play catch with you did he?

  • Looks like a very nice start.

  • Rock on man.

  • great job

  • I love weatching people paint with this style.... I like the knife

  • At first when i went to watch this video i thought it was making fun of bob ross, then i saw you up there and you were serious. I was going to make fun of you but im glad i didnt because your damn good at painting. And its your video so talk all you want, it would be kind of awkward silence without it anyway.

  • i love youre style it's very good

  • Don't shut up. I am getting into this style of painting and even though you may think you were blabbing on, you gave some very important tips. Such as how you let up on the brush on mountains, it's great stuff. Awesome painting too.

  • Very nice! You should continue posting these vids I like watching u paint.

  • Great job, Bob would be proud!

  • "I should probably shut up.." NOT! Your stream of consciousness comments are sooo like Bob! I really enjoyed watching you paint. One of the things I really liked about Bob was his low key way of speaking and doing things and you have that as well. Keep at it!

  • i cant realy tell if ur making fun of him...

  • You're commentary might have sucked but it was still very entertaining. Nice work, homes. I'm trying my hand at oil painting myself. I know there is a lot of room for the fudge factor but not nearly as much as I need. heh.

"I should probably just shut up....."

    lol

  • glad you enjoyed it. as far as the commentary goes I didn't have anything preplanned what to say I didn't even know how the painting was going to turn out so I'm sure I babbled I don't know I haven't watched these since I've made them and I think if I did I'd be tempted to take them off youtube

  • Leave 'em. They're still informative.

  • Can I just say... :)

  • excelente artista!!!!! me facina sus cuadros... son tan reales quie lo hacen soñar a una....... simplemente excelente!!

  • Hey man,you are one hell of a talented guy.

BoB is the man.Gotta beat the devil outta it!!!

  • Good paintin dude!

  • did you hammer that thing up there?

  • ye he did

  • oh yeah he just said it @25 :P

  • Lol you didn't say "Beat the devil out of it." when you were cleaning your brush.

Awesome job though!! First time I've actually seen someone successfully copy his style of "anyone can do". Hopefully you get your easel soon.

  • Great vid! I have done a few bob paintings and they give the best results in the least amount of time. The technique is a lot of fun. Keep up the good work!

  • thats cool! its nice to see someone use bob ross' technique besides him

  • Defenetally need more stuff like this on Youtube!!!

  • more productive stuff like this needs to be put on youtube.
