  • this movie was crap even if jackie chan was playing aang it was not true to the original, the actors in general can't act.

I wonder what they explained to their kids with Goku being white.

  • Anti asian? the entire cast shouldn't be asian, a majority yes but not 100%

  • Looking to increase your website traffic? Not many ppl know it but an affiliate program is the only real solution to that,The GAS system is the best overall,Because all others require you to have very good programming skills,GAS-AFFILIATEdotCOM is where to get it.

  • i think its racist to assume that its racist that ur ethnic group is not in a movie grow the fuck up people look if u go the a chinese place to eat do u want chinese ppl to work there or ppl that can cook the food i hope u see my point children now go to recess

  • I beat N Knight Shayamalan is Racist! I beat he is white too but he is saving that Twist on his death bed!

  • @Se7enBeatleofDoom your a dumbass he is asian

  • @robinclank2

no he's indian from india.and yes i know india is in asia geographically, but scientifically, indians are not asian. does m night shymalan look oriental to you? indians are from the same dna as middle eastern and mediterranean peoples.

  • @mallcraze dude, you mean to say he's asian, but not oriental. Believe it or not, but india is in asia too.

  • I disagree that it's about sales. Bruce Lee became a cultural icon despite being Asian. People voted for mostly Asian groups in America's Best Dance Crew. A lot of the Asian Youtube vloggers and artists are some of the most top subscribed people!

  • ui anong channel to?

  • @Dagon0088 yeah for a white fucker like you. The cast is always perfect when you're with the group that's stealing from somebody else!

  • @Dagon0088 you wanna be the kettle today or the pot?

  • Those are all valid points and it made me think.

Has there ever been a Philippine movie produced about something distinctly American where the actors/actresses were played by Caucasians/African Americans? Or were they played by Filipinos?

Other than 'The Great Raid' (and that's stretching it a bit). I wouldn't know.

  • James already made the Avatar movie

but is not the same as in this cartoon

  • Potential white actor: "Hey M. Night, can I be in this movie, please? =) "

    M. Night: "NOOOO! ASIANS ONLY! YOU'RE WHITE! FUCK YOU!"

Potential White Actor: "It's not my fault i'm caucasian...I just want my big break and with the popularity of this movie, I think this would be a great opportunity to....=("

    M. Night: "I SAID NO! NOW GTFO, CRACKER!!!"

.....Yeah, this is basically what I am getting out of the overall demands of racebenders/otaku fanboys who hide that with an agenda.

  • @JacopeX

Are you serious? No one is going to take you seriously considering there are a myriad of all White lead roles in movies. Can you name even 1 mainstream, American, big budget movie that has all the lead roles with Asians? Get real. Not even in the movie "21" with real life Asians. Casting practices in Hollywood have always remained the same, even when the world has not. America is becoming more multi-cultural and is not going to put up with this typical Hollywood bullshit.

  • @jmlew No one? Or just you racebenders? Was that statement supposed to down grade my personal credibility I have for myself? LOLZ! Especially when you fail to consider your example and how that should answer the problem to your butthurt. XD In this case, with TLA, this is just not the movie to go and protest against in relevance to the agenda of Asian american actors...This movie might as well revolutionize diversity in acting...protesting will just take everything a step back...Bad idea.

  • @jmlew America always been kind of multi-cultural but because of the vast multi-racial society in America and in contemporary times people feel/know they have a right to protest against racism in the system and all; that's what the Civil Rights Movement started :D

  • choosing patel doesn't justify anything. zuko and in fact the entire fire nation is based off chinese. It should be an east asian playing that role. Mr. Shyamalan made the entire fire nation which is based of Chinese and East Asian culture into an West indian nation. If he wanted his own race in the film, the water nation looks more dark and indian to me. but then he thinks that they are white. In the end the East Asians get nothing out of the movie which is based off an East Asian inspired toon

  • @Cliffjxn Those reviews aren't going to change my mind about it. I'm going to be the judge myself when I actually SEE the movie, and other people should as well. It's like judging the contents of a book before you've even read it, which is just plain stupid. And if he did a good job on the movie, no, I wouldn't care. I'm not racist like a lot of Avatar fans seem to be. If they have talent, they should use it, no matter what race they are.

  • @TheFudgeberries good one, my thoughts exactly :)

  • @TheFudgeberries It's not racist to want a movie to reflect the ethnic nature of a show. Was it racist to cast three white English kids in the Harry Potter movies? No, J.K Rowling wanted it that way. Besides it would have changed the whole thing if they had. Do you go to every movie? I don't. And I won't if the trailer fails to hook me. Especially, if it makes the movie look like a dark/ugly adaption of a fun family show. Where's the fun? Where's the heart?

  • @Cliffjxn Of course I don't. But I'm still not going to boycott the movie based off of my favorite show just because everything's not exactly like it was in the series. You mentioned J.K Rowling wanting the HP movies to be how they were. Well, Bryke has absolutely no problems with the changes M. Night has made. Heck, they helped him write it! And some things just don't work the same in live-action like they do in animation. So he's cut down on some of the comedy, big deal. Get over it.

  • @TheFudgeberries OK, first, good for you if you want to see the movie go ahead. Trailers are made so that you can get an idea of what the movie is about and if you might wan to see it. To you it looks like a great movie. To me it looks like a dark inferior copy of one of my favorite shows. As for Bryke, they had nothing to do with this movie other than a few talks they had with Shyamalan at the beginning. They won't even say anything about it except that they didn't help cast it.

  • @Cliffjxn I have heard otherwise. I saw an interview with them and M. Night and they said that Bryke was there for the filming process too. THEY were the ones who told him he needed to cut down on the script, since what he originally had would've been an 8 hour movie. And that's just what it is, a copy. You're never going to find a movie that's exactly like the original. It's darker because there's war going on and with live-action it's hard to make that cheerful. It's not just intended for kids

  • @TheFudgeberries Nobody is saying that a few changes are bad. Everybody knows that adaptations always require a few changes and/or omissions, no one is disputing that. The problem with this movie is that it goes beyond a few changes/omissions. Shyamalan made changes that effect the whole story and not in small ways. Firebenders not being able to make their own fire for example. What does making fire benders less powerful add to the story? I doubt Bryke would have approved that change.

  • @Cliffjxn As a matter of fact, they did approve of it. They thought it was a great idea. It levels the playing field for the other nations and gives Sozin's Comet a bit more meaning. M.Night didn't think it seemed fair that Firebenders could create their element, while others had to draw from a source. But with the comet, even those who aren't masters can create fire. Iroh, being the awesome guy that he is, will still be able to create fire. And I heard Zuko will be able to too by the end of it.

  • OK, again, is it racist to want a movie to reflect the ethnic nature of a show? According to you it is. What you're saying is it's racist to have an all black cast in a movie about a fantasy version of Africa set in the past.

And who says the kids they got for Airbender were the best? Ringer had no acting training before he was cast. They had to get a stunt woman to do most of his fight work.

And, while you can't judge a book by it's cover, you can judge if it's what you want to read.

  • @Cliffjxn That's not what I'm saying at all. What's racist is all the Racebenders making a big deal about it, when it's the most diverse movie M. Night has ever created. They complain about Noah being white and not Asian. So what? Aang looks white too. And no one really knows if he's good yet, since this is his first movie, but isn't it better to at least give the kid a chance? I mean, everyone's judging him before they even know if he CAN act. I find that cruel and unfair for him.

  • They're not Asian to begin with! There is no Asia in the Avatar universe. Just the Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, Water Tribes, and Air Nomads. No Asians, Caucasians, Indians, Blacks, Hispanics, NONE! So stop saying the cast needs to be all Asian because the series is based off of a mixture of Asian things. They judged the cast on their talent, not race. If anything, it's the racebenders who are being racist for making a big deal about it in the first place. Just enjoy the movie and stop whining.

  • @TheFudgeberries If they hired the most talented kids why are the early reviews saying they suck? Oh, and wouldn't you make a big deal out it if they cast Will Smith as Captain America? I would and I'm black.

  • Just don't take them to see it. Don't support it. It's the only way Hollywood will get the message.

  • I salute the Filipino's. They are brave. We need more news team like this in America.

  • the whole fire and earth kingdom is PURE JAPENSE AND CHINESE how is that racist

if it were racists they would say something is bad about the culture or insult it

    toph will be chinese jeez!

PLUS: THE SHOW IS AMERICAN MADE BUT ITS ABOUT DIFFERENT KINDS OF RELIGIONS

im just saying but i think its going to be an amazing movie im not boyycotting no matter what anyone says thats me and thats my opinion

  • @kataraa15

um the whole fire nation minus avatar roku is dark skinned middle eastern people. and only two of the earth kingdom actors are asian. the rest are other races. the show is not about religions. judging by your comment, you've never watched the series or you're just stupid. this show is about asians/asian cultures obviously.

  • @mallcraze obviously i had to watched the series to even put a comment here

and judging to ur comment i said that m.NIGHT wanted to put many different cultures in the movie okay!

not in the show I KNOW THAT THE SHOW IS BASED AN THE ASIAN CULTURE/HINDU, WHAT KIND OF STUPID PERSON WON'T KNOW THAT! and no 1 theres not just two asian actors in the whole film the WHOLE EARTH & FIRE NATION IS PURE ASIANS!

    yep so ur stupid

  • You people act as if EVERYBODY in the film is WHITE. The film is gonna be more RACIALLY DIVERSE than the cartoon. But apparently the ridiculous fools who are going to "protest" the film (yet will eventually watch it sometime in their lives) only care about Asians and nobody else.

  • "will have to tell their kids why white actors are playing asian character" jajajaja man Ur kid will slap yoU and tell yoU that its a FUKING MOVIE jajajajaj

  • This is an excellent video that exemplifies that there is still a LONG WAY to go with proper representation in Hollywood

  • What can you say, thats Hollywood

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! These people don't even know what they're talking about! HA!

  • Earth Kingdom = East Asian/ African

Fire Nation = Indian/ Middle Eastern

That means this is NOT whitewashed, sorry.

  • Yes....there are no Africans or Middle East people on the show and all the Asian people are either villains or in the background. Yea...

  • Did I say anything about the show? The movie should and will be DIFFERENT from the show because it is Shyamalan's own interpretation.

The Earth Kingdom isn't as important in the first season. That's why they seem to be "in the background".

Toph will be Asian.... Last I checked she was a main character. Yea...

  • Yea, you can be different in plot but changing someone's race or culture is a no-no. We are not talking about Spider Man's web slingers or Joker Acid, we are talking about minorities being turned into White people. Also, even if a sequel would be released, the majority is still white with their one (potentially two) token Asian person like every other white washed film from 21 to The Forbidden Kingdom.

  • "We are talking about minorities being turned into White people."

And, of course, this means Shyamalan and everyone else at Paramount is racist, right? No, he is trying to make the world more diverse.

  • @TheVVanderingStar Funny how they didn't start talking about making it "diverse" until people started complaining about the four leads all being white.

  • @Cliffjxn

Shyamalan's first pick for Zuko was actually Ecuadorian.

The actress for Suki was announced early on. She's Asian, so the rest of the Earth Kingdom is too.

  • @TheVVanderingStar I didn't know Jessie McCartney's family was from Ecuador.

The studio's first pick for Zuko was white (Jessie). And that was waaayy before the protest forced them to change. Most of the "muti-ethnic" casting came after.

  • @Cliffjxn

Jessie wasn't his first pick. As I've said, it was an Ecuadorian.

Jessie had scheduling conflicts. We really have no idea if protests did anything.

  • @TheVVanderingStar Here's the thing, if what you are saying is true then; A: it's still crappy casting. B: What happened to the first guy he wanted and why wasn't he cast? And why didn't they get him when McCarney allegedly dropped out? C: What happened to all the Ecuadorians who would have had to have been cast with him? D: Who was this Ecuadorian and why doesn't anyone besides you know about him?

The truth is the Ecuadorian, much like Ringer's Asian heritage, is just a rumor.

  • @Cliffjxn

    A: Your opinion.

B: The guy couldn't do it. After him, Shyamalan went to McCartney.

C: The main characters were decided on first. They weren't casting other characters yet.

D: Lots of people know. M Night said in an interview. "The first person I was considering for Zuko was Ecuadorian."

    Not a rumor, sorry.

  • @TheVVanderingStar A. ...and the opinion of the majority of the test screening audiences.

  • ...and perhaps very briefly, Hakoda. That means the rest of the characters in the second movie will be Asian, African, Indian, or Middle-Eastern. I don't call that a white majority.

There will also be new non-white lead characters such as Toph and Azula.

  • How do you know that Toph will be Asian? Can you tell me your sources?

  • @TheVVanderingStar

That's why it's being referred to as race-bending.

Similar to Patrick Stewart in Othello (1997)

He became a white Othello with an all-black cast.

It might be too blatant in this day and age to have a white actor in blackface.

  • Nope,t hat means they are either villians or background characters, none of them are heroes in the first movie and god forbid there are sequels the majority will still be white. Plus in the original casting before people complained, EVERYONE was white.

  • @TheVVanderingStar Again, that wasn't the cast until people complained. The Fire Nation was white and the Earth Kingdom wasn't East Asian/African until they cast Dev.

  • @Cliffjxn

    Could EASILY be a coincidence.

  • @TheVVanderingStar I don't think so. I think it was deflection. A way of getting some people off their back and on their side. It was a great idea in that respect, because it weakens the protesters argument. At least it does in the minds of those who don't care what gets changed, so long as "Shyamalan doesn't screw up the story. Or the main characters. Especially Toph". The problem is he and Paramount may have already screwed up.

  • @Cliffjxn

Suki was cast very early on. She's Filipino, so the Earth Kingdom became mostly Asian. I think Shyamalan's story makes sense.

I don't think they screwed up. From what I can tell and from what I've heard of the plot, this stays more faithful to the show than we ever could have hoped for.

  • @TheVVanderingStar From what I've heard of the plot it's a Cliff's Notes version of the show at best. Yes, it hits the high points, but, from what I hear it's rushed and skips over important events and characters (Like Bumi). The movie just jumps from event to event without pause for any real character development and never really giving you a chance to care about anyone.

As for Suki, it appears she was cast after Patel.

  • @Cliffjxn

"From what I've heard of the plot it's a Cliff's Notes version of the show at best."

What were you expecting? They can't fit eight hours worth of episodes into a two hour (max) movie. It would be too rushed. That's why they picked out the parts of the season that were most important to the main plot, in case you couldn't tell.

No, this is the best we could hope for.

I know we all like Bumi, but he really isn't that important.

"it appears she was cast after Patel."

    Was she?

  • im white and m nite has completely made this film stupid he has made the white guys the good guys and indians the bad guys where are all the asians in this ? in the background ........ i will watch this film on the internet for free

  • me too

  • Guys come check out my cast picks you'll love it! i disagree with 90% of this cast and am not supporting this film either! cause of its racism which is evident!

  • what about Ty Lee shes fire nation yet her eyes are grey not saying the cast is right just making a point

  • If you notice, wide eyes turn the color into golden brown but the smaller eyes are more gold in color. It's still the same range, kind of how there are many different ranges of Green for Green Eyes.

  • @siahboo Ty Lee isn't a bender.

  • watch Real Avatar: The Last Airbender Movie Cast

    on youtube there some ideas

  • watch?v=_0juJVUfWg4

  • YES! This is my favorite video you guys have uploaded so far.

    Thank you!

  • watch?v=Fd3jcLhgrmU

Add this to end and view the video. Give me some views. :D

  • Children's cartoon?! I watch that and I'm 21

  • awesome. guys remmber to post this link up to huffington posts, msnbc and cnn

  • I hope CNN get this story next.

  • I still don't understand why Shayamalan thought replacing Jesse McCartney with Dev Patel was any more accurate and authentic to the series. The Fire Nation people in the show look very obviously Japanese to me, and their whole MO of conquering the world for everyone else's good is very similar to Japanese Imperialism during WWII.

  • The writer's weren't directly attacking the Japanese. It was a statement about industrial nations in general feeding off of less-developed nations.

  • In fact to go into detail, Avatar's Nations are divided into aspects of the Asian World. So the Fire Nation are the Militaristic/Patriotic side of Asia (Imperial Japan, Imperial China, Mongolian Empire), Air Nomads are the Spiritual Asians (Hindu, Buddhist, Shinto), Water Tribes are the roots of humanity (Inuit/Yupik) and the Earth Nation are the people/government during peace era. (China, Korea, ect)

  • well put.

  • @fullmetalchymist Well now theyre Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Indian. GET OVER IT.

  • @fullmetalchymist You can't be serious.

    Jessi McCartney can't act.

  • @fullmetalchymist maybe that in most cases Dev is a good actor... but I agree completely with u. they should have been japanese

  • OMG those asians are talking fluent english with no accent

    whoaaaaaaa!!!!

  • Yeah, I know. From talking to the ignorant dinosaurs who run Hollywood studios, you would think they didn't exist.

  • LMAO XD

  • Those flavor of asian are Filipinos, man. We may have accents, but we try not to. :D

  • lol i know their filipino because for one I am one?

    Balitang- News

    lol

I was just being sarcastic since most pro caster Ive seen think asians have thick fobby accents lolol

    pinoy ako!!!!! and anticaster =D

  • Woot! We're moving up in the food chain!

But y'know, I'm thinking about writing a letter to CBS and see if they're interested in doing a 60 minutes story on this. When midterms are over, that is... DX

Damnit, why must so many avatar fans be nerds?

  • The eye colors only show what clans they're from. Notice how people from the water nation all have blue eyes, all people from the air nation have grey eyes, earth nation folks have green eyes and people from the fire nation have brownish gold eyes. The eye colors in this show have absolutely nothing to do with ethnicity.

  • You DO know that the color of a person's eyes in that world directly ties into which NATION THEY ARE FROM, right?

Besides, Caucasians are not the only racial group with 'big blue and green eyes'.

    HOW does KATARA look white?!

The Water Tribe is based on the Inuit people. Katara is Inuit.

  • Katara is BROWN. Are you crazy? The water tribe people are very obviously based off of Inuit cultures. I don't even...

  • The eye colour represents tribe/element.

Plus, Asians can have blue eyes, green eyes, etc. too. Just like the average "white" person has brown eyes. :\

  • OH SHI-

you did not just say that.

    Oh my.

  • hope this gets bigger..

  • They sound so smart, I totally agree with them
