How come no game music nowadays achieve the classic status of C64-masterpieces like Ocean Loaders, Giana Sisters, Star Paws, Magical Sound Shower, Turrican II etc..
The old geniuses like Hülsbeck and Hubbard etc shall live forever.
its amazing how we went from game systems like this to stuff likethe wii with movement control or he ps3 with its hardcore graphics or the not so good xbox360 that fries its self....wow
yes, we nake really good technological jump... but we paid for it with quality of games... modern "quality" shifts from playability and interest to graphics and marketing... it's so bad =(
I'm not so sure, I still love playing a slew of C64 games now that I grew up playing back in the 80's as well as the latest games, but there were some real stinkers back then that were just as heavily marketed, particularly Ocean's movie tie-in games, which were usually awful and tried to be sold on the Ocean name alone.
What do people think of one of my own chiptune efforts? Using the Commodore 64 is a composition tool as well as just one of the instruments I came up with this:
CHIPTUNE: COMMODORE 64, HAMMOND B4, ROLAND JD-800; "COOTY"
Great remix. After so many years I can still remember every individual note of this song. And reminds me of those early days when it took like half an hour to load a game =) with a 1531 datasette. My old C64 is still on my dad`s attic. Last time I connected it (was like 10 years ago) it still worked and I could even get some of those floppy disk games to work on my 1541 disk drive.
Sorry i can't hear you all over the sound of how AWESOME this Song is!!!!

This is a remix of Ocean Loader 2.
The music for the game in the background (Parallax) is also worth checking out. Same composer - Martin Galway.
Great stuff. Modern games need more music like this.

Good remix, I get a bit of Moroder feeling, which is quite good and I am a c64 fanatic so I love it.....

PPL say music was often better then the game ... that not really true because GRAPHICS did improove over years.... SOUND DID NOT...
SO you can take tune from 20 years ago and its still as good as sounds today or even better...

Great remix, for me the percussion is a little bit too intrusive, but this is still very good. The original is unbelievable, a classic.

Martin Galway? Similar rhythm as in Arkanoid, but the drums rather are not played by SID chip.
