My Spykee battery died and I couldn't find a good replacement. I finally found one at spykeebattery . com. The new battery fit perfectly and works great. I can get over 3 hours of use out of it now.

Hey man, nice video. I am thinking of buying a Spykee robot, but don't exactly know what the video quality would be like in advanced mode (over the internet). I am stuck between Spykee and Rovio. I used to be able to test drive rovio but they have now removed that feature from the WowWee website and have forgotten whether it was any good or not.

If you could explain to me which is better it would be great.

If I were to get one I would put some actual wheels on it, give it some more ground clearance, put the camera on the body. What they've done here, is take a potentially brilliant product and kiddie-orientated it.

Well every summer I travel to the Caribbean and I would like to check on things here and their. My hose was broken into once and I just whant to keep an eye on things I don't have second floor on my house so I guess I'm good there right? I'm getting into this robot fever thing as well plus I little bit of security would hurt. my question: how noisy is the robot? I've seen your onboard-recording test in this video, it says it's noisy - but is it only noisy when you record onboard (because the mic is attached to the robot), or is it also noisy when it passes you "in reality" on the floor or somewhere?

So would the cat be scared when it starts to move?

definately. The cat would freak out, you know what they're like. Although after a while curiosity might get the better of it.

It is pretty noisy tho, and it's a whirrr that a cat wouldn't like.

Seems like it would be kool for phone calls but it's really too bad that he can't move his head. :/ Also as soon as I saw the tracks, I can tell that they aren't shaped right and done well to climb over things like a tank can.

i cant be bothered to build so all i did was plug in the head you cant use the green lights but you can us the special effects the flash light you get on the head saves you about 1-5 hours depending on who builds i have a friend and it took him 2 days and a half to build cuz he kept on trying to figure out how to do it but he gat there in the end . then i told him thet he could have just plugged in the head and he got really pissed any way hope this hels anyone planning to get spykee spykee gr8

If it were only better built and not so toyish it would be worth the money. Maybe slightly bigger with heavier duty components and better tracks (for getting over obstacles), lower center of gravity and a programmable roaming mode like rovio.. it would be perfect.

u mention the rovio often, but it seems that you prefer the spykee overall. Does the Rovio earn your respect for its head movement only? b/c when i watched your vid comparing the wifi video functionality the Spykee was MUCH better when it came to lag (maybe only a second after an issued command). Just curious thats all. lemme know =)

Agree on the assembly. I somehow or another botched the arm though (I guess I screwed it too tight). They'd expanded so much I couldn't get the arm back on and had to cut out the little plastic expander bits out. Whatever happened to normal screw-holes?

re: Stairs, I figure they were trying to do it but couldn't and gave up.

I also get feedback through the mic to the speaker and end up with echo too.

Still, add a few parts and maybe re-program the software and it might become useful...

My major issue is the lack of arm/head control. I don't see why it has arms, hands, or joints if you can't move them. If I could make it grab/pick up stuff too then I'd buy it. Also, someone needs to make a toy robot that can actually go up and down stairs; that's always been a big issue. This seems a great idea that fell a little short. Could be fun to have other people control it and such though. Great video by the way, lots of good points made and answered many questions I had.

i can make a phone call to another mobile in portugal and they can see me and i can see them, so that teck is already their, then all you need to do is write the software for the robot so that when u press number 5 it moves forward or 8 for backwards e.t.c then 0 to return to base, something like that, im not very up on the teck but im sure the teck is already available

i have anapartment in portugal but i dont have internet connection yet, do you no if you can buy extras such as a way to use your mobile phone throught the sim card and incorporate a sim into to robot or buy mobile broadband and plug it in but then i dont no how you would activate the mobile broadband from uk

Not possible I'm afraid. Technically you could leave a laptop there on mobile broadband with a wifi card to connect to the robot. But it would be slow and if the connection died you're stuffed...
