I just watched this story on Dr. Phil today. The entire hour was dedicated to Hillary and her mother. She does indeed have Celrebral (sp?) Palsy. He has been taken off the bench with any cases that involve children, and Hillary and her mom have made peace. She just wants help for her dad and is torn over publishing her video. I don't get how people are defending the judge for PHYSICAL ABUSE. Sure, we may have not seen what went on in her family before this video happened, but resorting to physical violence should NEVER happen when there's other ways to handle the problem! I think the biggest problem though is that the parents that physically abuse their kids were probably once abused themselves, and that's why kids/teenagers are never the same when they have to suffer through this sort of stuff.

I do believe, however, that there was verbal abuse, and I recognize that as a tremendous problem. The daughter stole, lied, and defied her parents; for which a 16-year-old requires drastic disciplinary measures. But discipline should never be carried out in anger. Spank, ground, restrict, or whatever; but a parent's actions should be in love, not anger.

If she was a defiant thief and liar, then that's evidence that corporal punishment certainly was ineffective. By 16, it's too late to rely on spanking, let alone the beating in this video. When I was a kid I was very bad, I got sent home from school alot, I cussed, I was in a gang and I smoked. Once my dadfound out he beat me everytime I slipped even once, if I even talked back I got licked. Now I am a 2nd year student at a very good university and I thank him every day for it. I feel back for my friends who's fathers werent tough on them since most of theme are drop outs and jobless and just smoke all day.

I just watched this story on Dr. Phil today. The entire hour was dedicated to Hillary and her mother. She does indeed have Celrebral (sp?) Palsy. All of you who are upset over this situation, I am too. But let's not forget most kids get far worse beatings and this happens every day all over the world. I was severely beaten as a kid. It teaches them to act repentant even though they have not been properly taught why they should feel repentant. It teaches them that force is the best way to get what they want. Abused children are 74 times more likely to commit violent crimes and 6X more likely to abuse their own children.
Proper behavior should reflect conscience and morals, not fear of physical punishment.

I could tell the mother wanted to take control of the situation so she could just do one lash and make it seem like it was enough so the dad would back off. Though, it's terrible she did lash her a couple times. My mom has done the same for me, and I know her intentions were to get me the minimalist punishment possible. I know she didn't really want to hit me.

I don't get how people are defending the judge for PHYSICAL ABUSE. Sure, we may have not seen what went on in her family before this video happened, but resorting to physical violence should NEVER happen when there's other ways to handle the problem! I think the biggest problem though is that the parents that physically abuse their kids were probably once abused themselves, and that's why kids/teenagers are never the same when they have to suffer through this sort of stuff.

@wolfsrain12395 I am familiar with family violence, and believe me this was not the first time this type of thing happened in that family. This man was reacting in a violent manner, and that doesn't just happen once. Sad thing is, he was treated violently as a child as well. Very common.

The big ape barging into her room and barking at the mother to remove the younger child. Him making a great show of pulling off his belt etc etc etc. He is a plain unadulterated Bully an a pig. He needs someone BIGGER to teach him a few lessons. The mother betrayed her daughter..there IS no excuse for that. I would have died b4 I let my daughter take that.

Physical violence should ALWAYS happen when the kids are misbehaving. You think a little time-out or a "no television for a month" will do a goddamn thing you discipline your child? Then they just wait it out and do the shit again. I'm not defending the guy for his abuse, but I'm defending him for his right to discipline his child to keep her in line (not excessively, though).
Crime comes from untamed children who think they can do whatever the fuck they want.

I can tell you i would never even know when or why...just BOOM! Neither of us ever wanted to do that to a child. If thats the judges problem I would suggest to him that he read "A boy called It". That guy grew up to be one of the worlds most gentle men. Abuse does not have to be a legacy. Thank God.

@wolfsrain12395 People aren't defending the judge for physical abuse, because there was no physical abuse. This was a spanking, not a beating. I do believe, however, that there was verbal abuse, and I recognize that as a tremendous problem. The daughter stole, lied, and defied her parents; for which a 16-year-old requires drastic disciplinary measures. But discipline should never be carried out in anger. Spank, ground, restrict, or whatever; but a parent's actions should be in love, not anger.

@rcdrury1 To discipline means to educate. There is no lesson to be gained by a child by being physically beaten or abused. There is no analog to that in the adult world. They don't beat prisoners, or employees, or any wrongdoer in the adult world. They haven't for a century or more. All you teach a child by beating them is to act like they think you want them to act. Their act is hollow. They haven't learned right from wrong. They've only learned how to "act" right or wrong. It's worthless.

If she was a defiant thief and liar, then that's evidence that corporal punishment certainly was ineffective. By 16, it's too late to rely on spanking, let alone the beating in this video. These "spankings" she got throughout her whole life evolved into this beating. How much more violent should they have gotten over the next 2 years before she "learned her lesson"? This was sadism, not love.

When I was a kid I was very bad, I got sent home from school alot, I cussed, I was in a gang and I smoked. Once my dadfound out he beat me everytime I slipped even once, if I even talked back I got licked. Now I am a 2nd year student at a very good university and I thank him every day for it. I feel back for my friends who's fathers werent tough on them since most of theme are drop outs and jobless and just smoke all day.
Parents who refuse to dicsipline ther kids should be arrested.

yeah, the judge is a violent man i mean not a sensible person at all and he needs help and punishment. But if he jst hit her like once or twice and lecture her but in a more reasonable way and probably without the belt. A good spanking is great discipline as long as its not in a very violent manner and taking anger out on the child

I understand your point. But alcoholics and drug addicts need help, this guy just needs to be put in jail. He feels no remorse for it and does not even seem to regret doing it when he was interviewed. I believe that fact that he is a judge should FURTHER put him at risk of serious prosecution.
