@yocuzz100 Van Romaine is still playing for Steve Morse in 2009 album "Outstanding in their Field". He also worked as a session for Enrique Iglesias and Nena respectively.
Yes Morse is a alternate picker, for the seasoned guitarists out there, I would suggest spending about a year learning to play with his grip and RH position. It will open many doors. It is simualar to the way bluegrass acoustic players stum chords. Steve has honed the technique so he is precise on one string. It is really amazing. And don't forget this man has also been an airline pilot. My fav gutarist of all time.
First off, ditch the attitude. I misread the description where it says "Live in New York." I thought it said that they live in New York. It was a brain fart. So sue me, asshole.
Great clip, but Steve and Dave actually live in Ocala, FL. I think drummer Van Romaine lives in NYC, but Steve and Dave have lived in Ocala for years.
I met him at a gig in Ohio when he was touring on that CD, HTW. Someone asked how this song came about and he said he was at a friend's place and his friend was playing some of the latest shred guitarist stuff for him, Yngwie, etc, and his friend said "You should do a song like that". Steve said "Oh sure. That's easy". Easy, ha ha ha ha ha.
BTW: his live sound doesn't suck, his sound is pretty close to the van halen-type sound, only steve's playing is much more articulate.
Malmsteen's live sound sucks big time: loads of noise, and he's got so much gain going he doesn't even have to pick. (check the g3 with malmsteen, he sucks compared to satriani, vai and morse). Oh and get your facts straight sabbath: morse was playing this type of stuff even before malmsteen even started his stuff.

Every time I saw him he was so loud it sounded like total s**t. I went to hear him play (because he is good) and unless you put your fingers in your ears (cutting out most of the low end and distortion) you really coudn't hear much.
I was talking about Malmsteen's live sound idiot, so you shut up. I have seen Steve and/or the Dregs a couple of dozen times and he always sounds great.
I've been playing guitar 16 years now i've got a degree in music, my tutors at university all struggled with this song at full 208bpm.. i can pull it off at 180bpm no problem.. as can a few of my peers. but to say loads of your friends can play it easy is a bit of a joke.. have u tried to play the B section up to speed with or without your thumb?.. Morse is called a virtuoso for a reason.

the fact is that steve morse plays with an horrible sound when he is playing live!
timo tolkki is better but he isn't my favourite... by the way tumeni notes isn't that hard to play in fact a lot of friends of mine can play it with no difficulty
No, actually Steve is an awesome guy who hangs out and talks to people after almost every show he does. I have met him dozens of times since I first saw the Dixie Dregs in the 70's. You are an idiot. Probably some early teenage punk struggling to play AC/DC songs on your Wal-Mart guitar.
It's palm muted. But because of the position he holds his pick in it's like the side of his palm and pinky finger that does the muting. Check his DVD because he shows how he holds the pick and it's a bit... different. Doesn't play this on the DVD though, just stuff from 'Southern Steel' and dregs tunes like Ice Cakes.

Steve Morse is a great guitar player. An inspiration to all of us that (try in my case!) to play guitar.
Also a nice person. God bless him!
