  • so far away (wembley arena)money for nothing(knebwhort)

  • This top 10 sucks. Where are the guitar solo's from on every street and monney is for nothing?

  • speedway at nazareth is the ONE! in live performance it blows you mind!

  • Lady Writer Lady Writer Lady Writer

  • That's a great top 10. I fully agree with you

  • Mark will have about 20 solos in first ten.

  • I loved you ,baby ,but now i love my guitar.

  • Tunnel of Love - definitely the ultimate.

  • The Beatles -The Stones -The Hollies -The Kinks- The Police-TheWho-Queen-The Yardbirds- Elton John- George Michael - ELO-R.E.M-Dire Straits etc etc etc English Bands

  • sultans of swing perfect

but how about private investigation it should be count

  • puzzled by the absence of the fade out riff from "Are We In Trouble Now" from "Golden Heart" which makes the hair stand on my neck, otherwise a good choice. i would place it at #1 and move the rest back one

  • I forgot to mention that he has 2 daughters, as well.

Maybe they will get involved in the music industry in some way/shape/form.

  • I always liked Mark Knopfler's songs. He paints pictures with words.

    Images flood your mind.

He is one of the best, if not THE BEST guitarist/songwriter in the world today!

    End of discussion.

He writes all of his own music.

He is a multi-talented Master of Music!

I absolutely love this guy, plus I think he's cute, too!

God broke the mold when he made Mark Knopfler.

There will never be another one like him.

I just hope his sons' carry on their father's legacy, and maybe follow in his footsteps!!!

  • Only one song can be the good one for me, even as a huge fan (I love all of them) : Brothers in arms

  • Love Over Gold.....best album of 1982. telegraph Road Rocks. Knopfler very under appreciated.

  • Oooh dunno if they'd be my favourite ten. TBH there are too many to choose a bunch of favourites from...! I think many of the best come the first two albums: Dire Straits and Communiqué.

  • Yeah! Sultans of swing is the best. Your top rating result is the same as me..

  • I think #1 should be "where do you think you're going", the live version of course.

  • A list of one person is always subjective - BUT YOU HAVE WELL DONE!! (compliments). I prefer No.2 (Telegraph road) as No.1. Why? For me the best song in music ever, the best guitar combinated with perfect keyboard solos by Allan Clark

  • I always find it interesting to hear the views of others on mark's solos

  • Once again, nicely done.

  • Whoever posted this should listen to "In The Gallery"

  • @TheWb2112 - I'll second that! Great tune and lyric.

  • the list is correct

  • Seriously, has Knopfler ever done a BAD solo??? I mean, EVER???

  • great selection.......but, darlin' ..are we in trouble now?

  • No Boom Like That???

  • Oh, Junkie Doll as well. I prefer his Les Paul tones

  • "Darling Pretty" "Are We In Trouble Now" and "What It Is"

  • Google up MK interviews

  • he has so many Heavy fuel used to get me rockin

Some of his , just moves me to tears, he is so bloody brilliant, the most prolific compoaer ever maybe? did Mozart ever compose over 300?

  • mark is cool and i love his musik and i m 15 years old

  • "You And Your Friend"?

  • Well the last solo form "Sultans of swing" appears also in "Lady writer" and in my opinion solo from "Where do you think you're going" should also be on that list.

  • you are missing 'money for nothing' and 'what it is' is my opinion, otherwise nice vid ;)

  • sultans of swing is amazing.. but money for nothing rivals it for first...!!!

  • I do have to agree with you all of them, but I think and honorable mention isn't actually a guitar riff. I think the instrumentals in the song "On Every Street" is amazing.

  • @albertlahue

    true fellow true

  • I think sultans hit the top spot because its just so well known. You could play it in my local pub and all the kids would have heard of it. You slam on some telegraph road and all the youngsters would give you strange looks for air guitaring along to it

  • W brothers in amrs it's the best song in the world

  • no local hero !!!lol

  • my favorite and number one since long days is the solo of "it never rains" and i'm surprise and hapy to see that i'm not the only one : number 5 in your top ^^

and even if sultans is a "killer thing" , i prefer the end of telegraph road : epic ;), i put sultans in 3 rd position ;) and i go to see your live top !!!! ;) thank you :o)

  • sultans of swing is great but telegraph road, brothers in arms, and tunnel of love (and maybe even money for nothing) easily beat Sultans of Swing

  • great songs by the best guitarist the world has and ever will see

  • @connorfilmpro i totally agree!!!

  • There are so many, his guitar work is so clean and pure! You know it is him the minute he begins! Thanks for this!

  • I can make at least 2 videos more like this. And thank Knopfler for giving this chance to me...

  • sultans of swing solo is not only the greatest Mark Knopfler solo of all time.. it is simply put, the greatest solo of all time

  • local hero?

  • LADY WRITER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @cer00ma he's just like the most skilled guitar player who has ever roamed this planet. clapton and hendrix are the only ones worty of being mentioned in the same sentence as mark,

  • is this really something that we'll argue about????

    this stuff is gold...

  • Tunnel of Love... Man I could cry everytime I listen to that solo, I love it sooo much

  • Sultans of Swing is the best solo in rock history

  • Huge.. just huge bro.. twoaaa

  • I love them but Private Investigations ???

  • Most boring artist ever? Wow. Cause that's why he's friends with Clapton, right? He must bore you as well. Bloody idiot

  • Where's the Lady Writer one ? :)

  • great selection fantastic but you got the top two the wrong way round

  • @cer00ma How can he be the most boring? He wore a headband for fuck's sake you imbecile.

Go back to your Lady Gaga where the stupid bitch has to shoot fireworks out of her vagina in live performances to make up for her severe lack of talent.

  • @nathanblackcock That's just too damn funny for words!

  • @nathanblackcock Hahaha! So true man. Best comment I've heard in a while.

  • @nathanblackcock Well, respect works both ways, mr blackcock! So please respect other peoples lack of taste and the absence of any musical knowledge.

And the headband... well that was the 80's firework! comes from actually working and playing an instrument...

I can imagine an artist like mark knopfler comes across 'boring'... doesn't appear in tabloids, has a wife and kids, plays a boring instrument (guitar...yawn)... Well, than I'd rather be boring!

  • @nathanblackcock totally agree!!

  • @nathanblackcock jajajajajaj fireworks ou of her vagina.... good one

  • @nathanblackcock Ha ha ha! That should put an end to the discussion! ROFLMAO HI HI

  • @nathanblackcock I agree! Dude must be tone deaf or deaf altogether. (Or his taste is in his rea-end. LOL!

  • Lot of Richard Thompson in there as well!

  • The thing I love about Mark's solos is that his playing never, at least not to me, sounds scalar. He comes out with these really beautiful melodies that really suit the songs.

  • @bingefeller yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes

  • his good solos take you on a sort of mental journey. i love them cuz they're not repetitive, wild or senseless. They seem to tell a story and not jump around mindlessly.

  • He makes it seem so easy, just wondering what would happen if he actually strained at it. My mind doesn't go that far. Wow!

  • LAdy Writer?

  • Oh my god where is money for nothing

  • "The pick is for loosers"

    by MK

    :-D

  • @FoxWBogart yea :D i never use it... :D

  • speedway at nazareth should be higher... but still, although i don't agree completly with this order.... it's good!!

  • @manelra Speedway at nazareth first, second or third yeah :D My favourite :)

  • Maybe I do not concur 100% about the order of the solos, but very well done! I enjoyed your mix very much :O) Thanks!

  • That list is cool, but I have to add one to the list. The Where do you think you´re going final solo.

  • i always get goosebumbs when i hear the "brothers in arms"-solo!

  • Where did you get this video? If you made it yourself you did a great job! I'm sure it was hard work you are very talented. Also I'm a huge M K fan. He is possibly the best guitarist of all time. Definitely the best finger-style guitarist. Also, played by ear only and started out on the piano.

  • great compilation, such an overlooked national treasure. Fantastic songwriter and musician. Mystery why Dire Straits album covers are all so bad.

  • great compilation, such an overlooked national treasure.

  • I love Mark Knopfler's melodies and almost every song is equally good.

  • Imo ...

    1# - Telegraph Road

    2# - Brothers In Arms

    3# - Sultans Of Swing

  • Love it, Hard to disagree.

  • though it doesn't have a solo per se. wild west end would be amongst my top ten. some of the licks on that track are unbelievable.

  • "Lady Writer" ending solo would be on my list here instead of "It Never Rains"

  • wheres You and your friend from On the night =\

  • Nobody plays an Axe like this guy?

  • These are great, but i have always liked the end of the Freeway Flyer from Local Hero soundtrack.

  • my favorite solo my knopfler is mary had a little lamb. the vibe and poignancy is overwhelming

  • the guy is awesome, where would we be without such artistry. his music never fails to raise the spirit....lets have more

  • Sultans of the swing solo is of course the best no doubt about that! The best Dire Straits album was the first one (in my opinion). But thanks for the vid. very nice solo's!

  • listening to this with a smile on my face, and then along comes Tunnel of Love - and i feel like I'm about to be carried away to heaven. I will never lose my love for that song or the solo - it's utterly utterly beautiful.

    Great vid.

  • the devil sold his soul to the Mark Knopfler guitar lessons

  • The best way to do a top10 with MK is a Dire Straits' top 10 and a Solo-Album top 10. Otherwise it won't work. Anyway, didn't you miss «Setting Me Up»? Never mind, all guitar solos from MK are #1 for me. Thanks for posting.

  • why's nobody talking about brothers in arms?the mandela concert?

  • My personal top 10: 1: Tunnel Of Love 2: Sultans Of Swing 3: You And Your Friend 4: Going Home 5: Darling Pretty 6: Brothers In Arms 7: Sons of Scotland - Quiet Theme 8: Piper To The End 9: Ride Across the River 10: Single Handed Sailor Live it's definitely Hill Farmer's Blues. Saw it twice live; lifechanging experience, both times. Everything inside went completely quiet and Heaven gave a sneak peek for a couple of minutes. Then I realized what I've always known: Mark is my musical God.
  • Awesome video @Knutty4Knopfler... But the guy is awesome uh? hahahaha

  • I would've put don't you get it higher but apart from that great list!

  • change second and first rank! :)

  • @TheDelta0ne

Are you crazy? Telegraph Road and Sultans of Swing are by far the best guitar solos by Knopfler

  • @siddharthjoshi91 I meant first rank telegraph road and second Sultans of Swing!! ;)

  • I think that 2 solos are missing in this list : Devil Baby and What It Is.

I agree with you for the number 1 : for me it's definitively Sultans of Swing ;)

  • Comment removed

  • yeah you dont have lady writer yet!

  • where is "lady writer"???????

  • @creepnlucky The ending solo is just... godlike!

  • ¡¡¡¡EL MEJOOOOOR!!!!

  • You can give me the Les Paul sound of Slash, Jimmy Page and Gary Moore, but no one have that same unique Les Paul sound as Mark Knopfler, witch I just love!!!

  • @flaskeballe Mark plays a Stratocaster ;).

  • I would definitely put Telegraph Road first !

  • Tunnel of Love should be number one.

  • One of a kind this guy, when they made him, they broke the mould afterwards, suberb, unique sound, Mark's Strat playing style has never been emulated since, some have tried, but just can't seem to get it right, superb player, love his music, always will.

  • Great list but not to have Planet of New Orleans there...??? Good job, anyway

  • Nice complilation, but for me telegraph road goes 1 of all his solos especially live

  • where is the solo of sultans of swing alchemy version? :-D

  • @andreberna90 This video is non-live solos only (read the description). But check out my other video, Mark Knopfler's Best Guitar Riffs, for Sultans Alchemy version.

  • @Knutty4Knopfler good.... thanks for the video and this music.... mark the best!

  • @andreberna90 so,12 people are stupid, non-live he said

  • Hey guys, I think this video is useless, because all solos of Mark are epic.

  • I can´t be most agree with you.

  • telegraph road, tunnel of love, sultans of swing (Alchemy version), local hero, lady writer, are the favorites!!

  • I love Sultans of swing but hand's down tunnel of love is MK's best performance IMHO. There is so much Emotion that comes from his fingers it is incredible. The live version is even more emotional and EPIC!!

  • i'd give sultans of swing #1 simply due to it being a classic, but let's be real here: tunnel of love should've been #2. the buildup is epic and the entire solo is just pure amazing and pure knopfler. that lick at 3:07 (in this video) gets me every time... so technically proficient yet insanely beautiful and touching at the same time

  • Great selection, but i think you forgot 'where you think you're going'.

  • My favourite by a long way is Telegraph road Live in Basel, I love it

  • Immenso! Grande Mark!!

  • @Knutty4Knopfler Not everyone has the gift of a multilingual education. I respect anyone's right to speak in their own language, I was merely suggesting that if he really wanted to be understood by the poster of this video, then perhaps he would be better off speaking in English.

  • @alfalfalf101 i understood what you meant. it was a perfectly valuable bit of advice.

  • Telegraph is number 1 for me. Amazing solo and song.

  • As for me, the top two should be inverted, but good choice though :)

  • You forgot the awesome solo at the beginning of Lady Writer!

  • This is just my own personal, correct opinion, but I think the Sultans of Swing solo is the greatest of all time......bar none. The man is a subtle genius........

  • I think that Telegraph road is #1

  • I think that "Telegraph road" is ·#1

  • money for nothing?

  • The best one of Knopfler:

    watch?v=M7ix3LnqmUg

  • The best one:

    watch?v=M7ix3LnqmUg

  • I'm agree with you to say that telegraph road is one of the best solos ever played

  • veri good muy buenoo cheeeeeeeee

  • Make a top ten guitar solos by MK and have people agree on it - impossible.

  • @vfender21 There is solo for mney fr nothing u suck noe nthing bout music

  • Great picks, but I'd have to drop one of those to make room for "Poor Boy Blues" pickin' with Chet Atkins.

  • what's about "i think i love you too much" live at Knebworth with Eric Clapton?

  • great list! But telegraph road is still my all time favourite song.

  • This top 10 is truly amazing, but my personal favourite is the one from "Where Do You Think You're Going". Not that I don't love the others, it's just a matter of personal taste. Anyway - great studio solos. Live, as some said - impossible to choose. So many great pieces of work!

  • This top 10 is truly amazing, but my personal favourite is the one from "Where Do You Think You're Going". Not that I don't love the others, it's just a matter of personal taste. Anyway - great studio solos. Live, as some said - impossible to choose. So many great pieces of work!

  • For me the tunnel of love solo is the best of the best. Maybe not for its complexity but for the shear beauty of it.

  • Amazing! but i thing that local hero should be in this top ten. It's only my opinion but, it's your list, not mine.

  • intro to "Why Worry", "What it is", intro to "once upon a time in the west" (alchemy, I know it's live) well, there's really a lot more..

  • mark knopfler is the fingerstyle lord. period. yes, jimmi hendix and jimmy page can be argued in circles about being the best and/or better than knopfler, but mark here does things they never even thought of, and they do the same to him. they are just incompatiable to eachother ^_^

  • Closing solo of " Are we in trouble now" it just defines understatement, class, tone, its just pure beauty.

Only my opinion but I dont think there is a better player in the world

  • @kevinjs1960

Agreed on your "Are We In Trouble Now" comments. I've always found that solo breathtaking. His restraint in that tune, combined with the piano interplay...Doesn't get much better.

  • Comment removed

  • the best solo is tunnel of love at the end ,after that sultans of swing live in sydney, then the so far away lookslike the tropical thing, ride across the river live at the end is a little part ,beautifull played, silvertown blues (really not so easy to play)

  • I love how all of his solos are equally touching the soul.

  • did you just not put Lady Writer on here...?

  • I love all Knopflers music, however I've always loved the solo in "punish the monkey" on the "Kill to Get Crimson" Album =)

  • @vfender21 There is, on the "On the night" album, i think. Though I may be wrong, Im no expert when it comes to music lingo. Riffs, solos,.....etc, Whatever, just play th song =)

  • @vfender21 opening solo...

  • were the fuck is money for nothing!!!!

  • Tunnel of Love my fav

  • too many good ones imo!!

  • Love all of these, but lady writer and single handed sailor are my favorites

  • lady writer...

  • i think you forgot sultans of swings
