In order to get the roots straight, some people carefully place the barrel side of the Instyler against their roots for a few seconds. Just like some people use the back of a hot comb for the roots and then use the comb teeth to run through the hair strands. Try it, but be careful! Your hair came out great :)
This is a great tutorial/result video for the inStyler against natural hair. But I have a question - if you don't mind sharing, but what color red of red is in your hair?
lol, your reaction after straightening that first piece is exactly how I reacted. I was like "oooh, ok, InStyler" immediately went to twitter and told my homegirl to get one.
My hair was so shiny and flowy. I didnt even blowdry my hair before I used it, I let it airdry (hadnt planned on doing my hair, got bored and decided to try my new Instyler), I did use a paddle brush to brush out the kinks... went over each piece with the Instyler like twice and was good.
Before anyone uses heat in your hair it must be deep conditioned with protein before flat ironed so hair can revert. I have the zebra stripe instyler and i love it for my natural hair. I only do it in the colder months. My hair doesn't revert. Never use heat in the summer. It doesn't make sense.
Soo ur hair does revert back to curls after using the instyler ......I was afraid to use this because I had seen a review on a natural head and she said her curls never came back she became straight again permanently on one side of her head.
They need to pay you for doing this vid. My stylist said it wouldn't work because they don't get hot enough. I am kicking myself for not getting it last year on sale at Kmart UGHHHH
I have the instyler, and to tell the truth, you're waaaaay better off with a regular high quality straightener. True, it is better than drug store straighteners, but it is no match for a high quality straightener that you can get for ALOT less. I wouldn't buy it again...
I've had the Instyler quite awhile now and it's just been sitting around. I used it a couple times when I was still relaxed/transitioning but I didn't think it was really doing anything. I won't be straightening my hair until nxt year around this time and I think I might actually try it then because you got awesome results!
I just saw the new one on QVC (12/2/11) & they have a great deal on it. I was watching it thinking if it would work on my hair. I may have to look in it ordering one. Good Job!!!
I've been natural for a little over a year and haven't blow dried or straightened my hair yet but your results are so beautiful I think I'll try this for my b'day!
Thanks for sharing. I own an instyler myself and used it when I had a relaxer. I have only been natural for 9 months. I love your channel. I look forward to what you will be bring to us next year. Have a safe and blessed holiday season.
THANK YOU! Someone else who likes the InStyler. I've been waiting for a good review from another natural. Yeah it's a pretty cool, and I didn't know about the follow method before my brother's gf got it so it was a nice idea.
I have been natural just about almost 15 months now and I love it. I also have the instyler. I love that as well. I get my roots very well with my instyler, but the only thing I have a problem with is once I have straighten my hair it poofs back out again. Is there anything I can do about that?
I did the same thing for Thanksgiving with my sister's Instyler and I was SOLD! I bought my own the next day. It eliminates the comb-chase method for me. I was also pleased that it didn't take extreme heat to straighten it. I used to be convinced that my ends were jacked up when I flat ironed because they were never smooth. But they got silky smooth with the Instyler.
great result, you look nice, it suits you, i dislike the way the flat iron makes my hair flat and limp, the instyler seems to give volume so i'd love to get my hands on one in 2012, might take a leaf from your books and do just that! but yeah i loved the outcome.
I purchased an instyler two months but haven't tried it...I have your texture hair so will be using it in the near future very encouraging for kinky textured hair which is very hard to get that straight.
@NVme08 Yes, I believe it is less damaging. It smoothes and polishes the hair as it straightens and gives it ton of body. That heat is still heat though, but a better alternative to a regular flat iron.
Your hair looks super healthy! Soo shiny and smooth. Lovin' it! You are definitely one of my faves to watch on Youtube! I think you and I are about the same hair texture (from what I can see). I may try it out. How much did your Instyler cost?
it did do a good job straightening. But I think your hair would look great if you've gotten a Dominican blow out. that's only if you want more body and a more natural flow.
@tokyosuni I've heard horror stories about Dominican blowouts. I can't say for sure since I've never had one done though. I've seen videos though and the hair gets really straight!
@tokyosuni I got a dominican blow out last in November of 2010 and got heat damage from it. They get the hair super straight and bouncy for sure, but that heat will fry the hair. Not for me. I'll stick with my instyler.
I used this and got the same results. Make sure you have the worlds best HEAT PROTECTANT. I used the Olive Oil one in the green bottle at Sally's and MISTAKE. Had to cut hair out. Cried. @bruine24 I haven't washed my hair yet... I've been wearing it in a pony tail. I'll do a vid to show my hair after washing. I am not worried about split ends b/c of the bristles though. It smoothed my ends.
This is awesome! Had to watch it twice. We have the same hair texture and I haven't straigten hair yet but will consider buying this tool for a newbie. Thanks alot
If my memory serves me right, I think you're almost 3 years natural. I think you've had excellent growth! But I know we can be our own worst critics!! Looking forward to watching the next leg of your natural hair journey.
@MsChanteJ72 Yes, I'll be at 3 years at the End of January. Thanks! And aint that the truth! I always see where I need to improve rather than what I've accomplished.
I thought the samething about those commercials that why I never even thought twice about getting one....but your hair looks really good!! Might reconsider! lol Love it!!

Wow girl, I can see the difference between the straightening in your different video and THIS. It has body, movement and kinda makes me want to flat iron my hair too
If you run the barrel (closed) back and forth close to your scalp, the same way you would if you were using a curling iron, it will straighten that portion too.
Your hair is Beautiful and I will be looking for an instyler.. You may have said it on the video but: What did you use to protect your hair from heat damage? I saw you spraying something on your hair... Thank you :)
@LiaRaquelle Instyler has 3 heat settings. Hi, Med, and Lo. The Low setting is about 285 degrees, the Medium is about 315, the Hi is about 385 degrees. I used the instyler on Hi.
wow your hair looks pretty! i may have to get this because my flatiron sucks and keeps frying my hair...my curls just keep getting more loose and i don't know how to get it back to normal :( did this damage your hair at all?
