  • "If this is the life I'd just assume dying" is everywhere on the Net but it does not make sence (how can one "assume dying"?), and I think that they are singing "if this is the life, I'd just as soon die." They sing the lyric twice, and on the second it is clear that they are singing "die" not "dying." And "I'd just assume die" is completely a-grammatical as well as non-sensical.

    By the way, I am not sure if the idiom "I'd just as soon action-verb" (also "I'd just as soon be action-verb-ING) is only British English but at least in British English it is very correct and normal. It means compared to some other action-verb, I would be just as happy doing this action-verb. E.g. "How about if we go on holiday to the Bahama's? We could, but I just as soon go to our local beach"
