  • My grandfather went to Panama in 1911. He stayed 30 years. My father some of the world's greatest ships transit the Canal during his childhood.

    This ship is Virginia, launched and completed in 1928 by Newport News S.B. & D.D. Co. Owned by American Lines, New York, until 1937, when sold to U.S. Maritime Commission. Renamed Brasil, one funnel removed. Laid up in 1960 and sold for scrap in 1964.
