It's actually a pretty well-done ad if you put aside all your preconceived notions of how hammy Shatner can be. He started off as a Shakespearean actor in Stratford, Ontario and some of his Twilight Zone appearances were decidedly UN-hammy, especially the one about the superstitious man in the small town. He was major babe-licious in it.
Shatner used to do commercials for another grocery chain in the West, but I can't remember if it was Super Valu, Overwaitea, Woodwards Food Floor or another. He would have been shooting these in the mid-to-late 1970s, around the same time as this Loblaw's ad.
My understanding is that it was Super Valu, as Loblaw had a small stake in the companies that owned and supplied Super Valu at the time.
(Loblaw has since taken over Kelly, Douglas and Company and Westfair Foods completely and have been shutting down or converting the Super Valu stores to other Loblaw banners.)
@KOATV I did once on my first trip to England. They actually served this thing called "food". You may have heard of this happening on an airplane. Sadly today this is rare.
He is 80 yrs. old now and still going strong! Good for Bill!! His "Twlight Zone" episodes, Especially "Nightmare at 20.000 Feet", still scares me!

I know what happened. You have your Atari 2600 TV switch box turned to channel 2, when it's supposed to be on channel 3. Happened all the time.

I love this guy, really a great actor. If you get a chance watch him in "the intruder", a really great move in which he plays a White Supremist.

This is a travesty. *Any* clip with the Shat deserves to have at least 1M views.

Too bad he didn't do a CP Air commercial.
"I saved money on this flight with the vouchers I...there's a man on the wing!"

Astonishing acting, he genuinely seems very pleased to pass this information on to us.

Must be an eastern thing. I'd never heard of Loblaws until ten years ago, when it was referenced in a local underground comic.

Loblaws is sitting on a great campaign here. They should totally re-release these Shatner ads.

@BadLactose - The trouble is, CP Air is long-dead, and $5 won't even pay for your parking at the airport.
