@edgreen59 It wouldn't be mined as wire. It would have gone through a production process. Plus you wouldn't just mine it as Nitinol, it's composed of nickel and titanium.
@NineTailsDemonFox It's retarded for anyone to think that this wire would return to the state it was in when it was mined and not realise that it would have had to go through some kind of production process. I already knew what this material was composed of, amongst other things about it, as I have an Associate degree in Composites Manufacturing Technology and have worked with Nitinol.
@calumisdead And your the one with a fag video on your channel. Sounds like someone's in denial. Don't rely on Wikipedia for all your facts- specially when others can change text.
@NineTailsDemonFox Cool man! I stand by my previous statement that I didn't go to Wikipedia, but why should I have to prove any sembelence of my intelligence to some fucking wad of sluff who wipes his own ass with his tongue.
@calumisdead You have an associates degree? from where, and who signed it? I'd really like to call the person who gave you that Degree to let them know that you take your facts from Wikipedia. You stated and I quote: "it's composed of nickel and titanium." Which is precisely what Wikipedia states. It doesn't say 30% this or 80% that, it clearly says "it's composed of nickel and titanium." You can state what you want about having an associates which means dick compared to a masters.
@NineTailsDemonFox A title of a related video also says that it's composed of nickel and titanium, clearly displayed. How could you known where I got my information from? And how else would you phrase the sentence "it's composed of nickel and titanium"? I'm sure many other sources in the internet concerning Nitinol also say that exact same sentence, as it a succint and clear may of giving that information. At this point I still haven't even read the Wikipedia article.
So how do you set what the wire will look like when it is heated? Do you change its shape when hot and then once it cools down, bend it out of shape again?
It is a smart alloy. The metal has layers that are bondic in a ionic latice. When the metal heats up the layers slide over eachother until they rest, in this case it is this shape. Not magic science. Magic is me not being arrested for paedophilia yet.
@SylarTheGreat You heat it to a temperature hotter than warm and deform it. Then as it cools back to room temp it will remember that shape, and can be deformed and returned to that shape with a "warm" temp.
I think i saw this on CSI new york.. this really cool car had memory metal on it.. like they bashed into and it just popped into shape..
and when they brought it back to the lab ( a shard of the metal) they dented it with a hammer, then put a current through it and it just went back to it's original shape!
They should make cars out of this stuff! Perhaps not the whole car that would be heavy and expensive, but front and back bumpers for instance. If you have a little accident, all you have to do is poor some hot water on! :)
Excellent! Apply this in the auto industry, and everyone just have to burn their car after they crashed it.

That's a great idea. too bad it wouldn't be as lucrative for car makers as making shitty cars that need service/repair constantly.
