I would have been so heartbroken if I knew it had been Vivi when I played this as a kid though. Vivi was my most favorite FF character ever! Even watching this as an adult I still get a little teary eyed.

I love this game's ending... Best video game ending of all time. I also love the plethora of bonuses they threw into it, especially the Coca Cola commercial that aired back when this was released. Those were the days... You could actually do things without a crapload of copyright laws, and other crap blocking the way. I'd find it interesting to see another game commercial that was about something else. Hehe, I can't really see a FF XIII Coca Cola commercial though...
if you guys played final fantasy 7 and 8 the 2 guys that you played were cloud, and squall, whatch half way through to the play were the girl and the caped guy are in the girl says " no cloud, nor squall shall hinder us" ring a bell the main characters in 7 and 8 that was a good call i found maybe its a easter egg or something you guys think so....

Perfect harmony of happy (love stories) and sad (Vivi's death).
People skeptical about Vivi having kids: It's just symbolic. The idea is that he thinks life is worthwhile, even if they'll only live for about a year or so. The details don't matter. A truly sad ending would be if he didn't think life was worthwhile.
Reason the ending is perfect? Not one line of dialogue and we are told everything we could ever wish to know. Best FF ending, no, best ending to any videogame I've ever played.
F7 & F9 are my personal favs simply because the storys almost serve as paradoxes to each other F9 is a classic love story with zidane a lively theif skirt chaser , F7 is a classic drama with cloud a withdrawn lawmen f7s conclusion is not as powerful but its over all theme is that of a classic modern drama like Great Expectations As F9 is the classic boy gets girl in the end which is repetitive but some what still captivating

I actully think that all the monologues were all Garnet/Dagger. This may sound a little crazy, but my theory is that because Zidane was considered dead, Dagger was depressed, so when she says "My Memories will be part of the sky." that to me seemed like she was going to kill herself. But because he came back, she didnt XP
I can't think of a more magical ending to a game, or a movie, nor a book. The music, setting, angle, dialog, everything. This is the closest the world will have to creating magic. =]
I remember when I first saw this part. With Vivi's (supposed) last words. I stood up from my seat, lifted my arms up into the air and just yelled out, "VIVI NOOOOOOOOOO". Accept I actually named him "Josh", Why you ask? I always name the short little black mage characters after my best friend. He's short and into wizard stuff (trust me it makes sense). So in actuality I really stood up and yelled "JOSH NOOOOOOOO." And since Josh was with me at the time people were very confused.
ive always said this was the better game over 7 though most people disagree because cloud is kickass.none of the other games had such an indepth love story mixed in.this game is simply beautiful all the way through.the zidane/garnet relationship i think we can all somewhat see in ourselves.how two totally differant lifestyles and people(zidane a thief and garnet a princess) overcome social boundaries and end up falling in love.not only that,being together. like i said earlier,simply beautiful

This is still probably the best FF endings in the entire series. The build-up, the delivery, it's perfect. After so many years I still weep everytime I see this. Yeah call me a softie :)

@justinxemo oh i didnt get it because in the ending the vivis said they are all vivi's son and vivi didnt seem to talk in the last scene... and what you mean is stop not sleep.. vivi live longer but just like zidane there life is like a normal human being life span so they are the special type too
I think you musn't overanalyze details like this, in both games and movies. That garnet leaves the crystal behind and throws away the crown is only sybolic and shall show, that he is more important to her, than anything else (as joriscel already said). It's only a short cutscene, no dialogue , so the visuals have express and "tell" as much as possible in as little time as possible. The important thing is the message.
Vivi himself does not appear in the epilogue cutscenes. Instead, five other black mages who look exactly like him appear at the celebration in Alexandria, one of whom identifies himself to Puck as "Vivi's son", suggesting he did eventually "stop"
There's a thousand words I can say for this Final Fantasy and each one basically says, "great game". Breathtaking graphics for Playstation (comparison to FF7), and comparing to FF8, this romance is more.... nostalgic and sweet. I am a guy and i still miss playing this game. I hope I have the will to beat FF9 again, but in time being ff9 ftw

I actully think that all the monologues were all Garnet/Dagger. This may sound a little crazy, but my theory is that because Zidane was considered dead, Dagger was depressed, so when she says "My Memories will be part of the sky." that to me seemed like she was going to kill herself. But because he came back, she didnt XP

I remember when I first saw this part. With Vivi's (supposed) last words. I stood up from my seat, lifted my arms up into the air and just yelled out, "VIVI NOOOOOOOOOO". Accept I actually named him "Josh", Why you ask? I always name the short little black mage characters after my best friend. He's short and into wizard stuff (trust me it makes sense). So in actuality I really stood up and yelled "JOSH NOOOOOOOO." And since Josh was with me at the time people were very confused.

ive always said this was the better game over 7 though most people disagree because cloud is kickass.none of the other games had such an indepth love story mixed in.this game is simply beautiful all the way through.the zidane/garnet relationship i think we can all somewhat see in ourselves.how two totally differant lifestyles and people(zidane a thief and garnet a princess) overcome social boundaries and end up falling in love.not only that,being together. like i said earlier,simply beautiful

This is still probably the best FF endings in the entire series. The build-up, the delivery, it's perfect. After so many years I still weep everytime I see this. Yeah call me a softie :)

ahaha. omg. i beat this game so many times and i just realized the Cloud and Squall thing. XD thats pretty funny. FYI. my favorite final fantasy ever. love the story. from beginning when Zidane was pretty much nothing to Dagger, and now they are together. thats just freakin awesome to me.

of course not its just the way garnet shows how important zidane is... zidane is more important for her than her crown and crystal and even her royalty and that what makes the ending so sweet!! just question did vivi died?? is he the one talking and saying farewell? i dont get it lol XD
i think mikoto is the one that find zidane and know he is still alive since she can feel his presence

@joriscel vivi didnt die, he was the prototype and it says in game around his village scenes he wont "sleep" like all the others. after the tree he rescued the remaining dolls.

@justinxemo oh i didnt get it because in the ending the vivis said they are all vivi's son and vivi didnt seem to talk in the last scene... and what you mean is stop not sleep.. vivi live longer but just like zidane there life is like a normal human being life span so they are the special type too

I think you musn't overanalyze details like this, in both games and movies. That garnet leaves the crystal behind and throws away the crown is only sybolic and shall show, that he is more important to her, than anything else (as joriscel already said). It's only a short cutscene, no dialogue , so the visuals have express and "tell" as much as possible in as little time as possible. The important thing is the message.

Vivi himself does not appear in the epilogue cutscenes. Instead, five other black mages who look exactly like him appear at the celebration in Alexandria, one of whom identifies himself to Puck as "Vivi's son", suggesting he did eventually "stop"

There's a thousand words I can say for this Final Fantasy and each one basically says, "great game". Breathtaking graphics for Playstation (comparison to FF7), and comparing to FF8, this romance is more.... nostalgic and sweet. I am a guy and i still miss playing this game. I hope I have the will to beat FF9 again, but in time being ff9 ftw
