Did not know Phil Upchurch played with Rotary Connection. That guy is dope , supa funky dope. The whole Rotary Connection is phenomenon. They sounded more like 1975 not 1967.
This is FANTASTIC! They're only one example of why I adore music from the 60's and 70's. And this's also part of the reason why I bought Minnie Riperton's debut Come To My Garden (1970). Her version is also amazing
Now i know where they got the sample. Good beat and it's weird hearing Minnie off tune but I guess supposed to be child like and psychedelic. It's fly. See blacks can do more than just do soul. We got all genres on lock.
@JET997u Jet thanx for pointing that out cause the one time I had the opportunity to take the same ride I was musicless with a friend snoring in one ear and a nagging sister in the other, less blissful, lol
It is so perfect and NO WORDS WERE EVEN SANG.....Can't believe I am just coming across this song and the genius that is Rotary Connection now...LONG LIVE PURE MUSIC...this is excellent!
@AraBlak I actually heard Bonita Applebaum YEARS before I even knew who the beat was taking from and Q Tip really did do the song justice. I actually wrote a post about Bonita Applebaum and the songs that were sampled to make the song on my blog. They sampled RC and RAMP's "Daylight"...youtube that song
@charlyblues Its pretty simple, Tribe sampled that guitar part and a beat from somewhere else- either the fugees did the same exact combo :P or they sampled bonita applebum
I thought tribe sampled from VAMP but nope it was Rotary connection

@jarbon5, A Trube Called Quest's Bonita Applebum is a mix of this tune and Roy Ayers' "Daylight."
