I used to play the original version every night while I mourned my break up. Now that I've moved on, I just so happen to stumble upon this version right now. Marvin always has a way of channeling how I feel through music, and his timing is just incredibly yet joyfully ironic.
I've been able to find comfort in this song with my break-up. Thank God that Marvin had a truthful heart and pure spirit. He was brave enough to put his emotions out there while he was here on this Earth so that someone like me could know that I wasn't the only person who felt this exact pain. I heard him in a previous interview once say he likes songs that made him feel sad. I totally understand that concept now. God bless your soul Marvin....I'm so thankful that you left this treaure behind.
During a family crisis, I played this song over and over. When I hear this song it brings back the memory of the strength my family mustered during the time. It's amazing how a song can take you back to an exact time, place, and event...and even more amazing is how that song can soothe the aches and pains of tragedy....as this song has, had, and will continue to make life special. Thank you, Marvin Gaye. :)
This is Marvins last recording ever. This version was the last of three versions of the same song and the only one Gaye was allowed vocal freedom. He also played piano on this version which is by far the most inspired. This final album was recorded in Vienna with the help of a classical composer and while the album was all but forgotten this version of this song serves as a goodbye to the most loyal of his fans.
@donkeyshae Actually this was recorded in Los Angeles in 1978 prior to the release of "Here, My Dear". After the album didn't do so well, Marvin left the U.S. His final recording sessions were in 1983 in L.A.

Marvin Gaye's is the artist that I most identify with.
I tried emulate his music earlier in my life.
This brother was so sensual...
His Music did provide sexual healing for many of us during lovemaking
The first time I made love, "I want You" was playing on my cassette deck.
His music helped me, and HEALED during some very trying times......
These songs are dedicated to Nicci. Girl you were my first love
I think of you often....Thank You for allowing me in your life
