  • Does anyone know who made this ad and when it was first aired? Was it a campaingn by a rival company against B & H?

  • Anyone know for sure who composed the music? Its really exceptional. I'd think Ennio Morricone because of the quality but I'm sure it was an equally talented but unknown hard working American who hasn't received the credit he/she deserves. Lemme know!!!

  • @FairDealDan It's an american group called Brass Ring and the song is The Dis-Advantages of You and it came out in 1967 and went up to 36th spot on the bilboard chart but i cant tell you who wrote this from the band

  • @STEFAZON500 Phil Bodner and the Brass Ring. Also did "Phoenix Love Theme" from Connie Francis song.

  • @FairDealDan "The Disadvantages of You" was composed by Mitch Leigh, who also wrote the music for "Man of La Mancha."

  • @peterpaulblock what a great piece of music

  • The guy playing the actor wearing the Civil War Army uniform who gets his cigarette chopped off before the scene...looks like a very young Tommy Lee Jones. That's definitely McLean Stevenson in the boat with the two chicks. One of the greatest ad campaigns ever. The black-and-white commercial that came before this was also hilarious. And the song accompanying the commercial is also beyond cool...unmistakably from the 60's. This ad is a piece of Americana from a creative, wonderful era.

  • I remember my mom switched to B&H when I was 8 and smelled so much better than her old brand that I stopped complaining even though they lasted a lot longer.

  • Mclean Stevenson before M*A*S*H!

  • The guy dressed in white looks like Judd Hirsch in his pre-"Taxi" days!

  • Of all the commercials for cigarettes, Benson and Hedges were the most creative and funny. The other cigerette commercials that were a riot without meaning to be were the ads for "Eve" and "Virginia Slims". These cigarettes were aimed directly at women and used slogans that suggested that since we were liberated, we had the right to die from lung cancer just like men.

  • I don't smoke but really enjoy this ad from my childhood. It was very funny as a child. Very creative and memorable.

  • Isn't that McLean Stevenson in the boat?

  • Love a good b+h, the thought police might get this wiped off!

  • This classic commercial won awards in the day for being memorable creative. Fantastic music theme. It positioned the product as upscale but hip. Good or bad it lives in "Mad Men" history.

  • @Jimboyc21 Your comment was much appreciated

  • yes you can beat those old commerical i real like that music.

it take me way back at that time there were jobs now you can buy were

    way in any job.s

  • I love the song. I hate the product. A cook making orange juice while smoking, now that's healthy!

  • @zzzut The healthiest thing that the 60's had to offer

  • In some countries, in the 70's the theme and the song are exactly the same, except that the cigarette brand is PHILIP MORRIS 100's

  • In some countries, the theme and song is exactly the same but the cigarette brand is Phillip Moris 100's

  • I couldn't for the life of me remember which cigarette commercial featured as the soundtrack the 45-r.p.m. record on Dunhill (ironically) I've had since new in 1967, because I must've seen ALL the brands advertised before they were banned from TV completely. The Age of File Sharing has come! Thanks, YouTube.

  • The guy fixing the car looks like Vic Tayback (Mel from the Alice sitcom.)

  • Hey thats McLean Stevenson!! (the first dude on the boat with the two girls) who played Colonel Henry Blake on MASH.

  • The Dis-advantages Of You by The Brass Ring- Winter/Spring 1967

  • @littletimone If they had hired Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66, they'd still be selling cigarettes LOL!

  • what song is this?

  • That song is "The Dis-advantages Of You" by The Brass Ring. It actually did pretty well on the Billboard chart in February and March of 1967.

  • You can allways upload another B&H ad
