hello james , me again about my sharp9696,i went on a web site called stereo2go.and this dude said it i play record with a tape a few times that humming sound will go away. and it did!! you ever tried that with any of your sharp units??
a question about the cassette player on my 9696.when i play a tape with the ac cord it sounds fine, but when i paly it with batteries theres a humming sound coming from the left speaker, now when i hold in the edit button it sounds fine. you ever had this problem??
@boehm145 Electrical problems hard to diagnose. I have had similar problems with 'other' boombox's. Basically U have a problem hidden on a/c power more current, versus batteries less current less power. Possible bad ac2dc switching issue, ground? bad capacitors, loose wire, bad contacts, switches dirty, a plethora of ideas to try - Me i dis like this complicated box - which is why i have sold it ( the Sharp gf-508) that is. Good Luck fixing yours.
This is a Great "Box" I have a Sharp 9696 like this one but it is pristine and evrerything works....I also have a pristine Sharp 8989. Great Video!!!!
Why the 5 negatives? This is heritage stuff; full of good memories. Boomboxes are awesome. They don't build things today like they did 20-30 years ago.
@gavincurtis I have no idea maybe they dont like me speaking in the video unlike lot's of video's of boombox's video's I have seen where you see the box but no original music coming from it meaning that they are piping a mp3-player or somthing through it or there is some out there that just dont like me - Cause i out-bid them when I bought these when I had money
Dude, could you PLEASE sell me one of those? I miss mine, and would love to get one again. Short story, it was ripped off from this guy at work, way back in 93. He quit and then I never say him again. F''in loser.
Send me a nother email with your email address and we'll.... uh negotiate for the one on the left in the video with the red ( 40 ) and no handle-thats the way i recieved it, ok ?
I think the drive belt is a red herring, that belt only operates the autostop ratchet. The capstan has a rubber bush right at the base which drives the pulley that drives the takeup spool. I think. Basically that rubber has rotted out.
Those are nice units! A little contact cleaner sprayed into the "stereo-wide, stereo, mono" switch should clear up the issue with the one channel playing in stereo mode. The other one simply needs new belts to function properly on cassette operation.
If aren't thrilled with them, send 'em to me LOL! 8)
Did you think of a deal with the bombeat wx1 yet ?

And it ate batteries like you wouldn't believe. SHARP GF-7500 was my one sorry, not the 770 as I said earlier.

This model had removable covers for the speakers.

My mate had one of those in 1982. No wonder the belt has gone. Ah I wish I had one now. I had a SHARP GF-770.

Sharps commonly have issues with the stereo/stereo wide switch. Something on the circuit board goes bad.
