  • "Oceans playing catch-up"? What crap!! The atmospheric CO2 levels FOLLOW the oceans. And who says the earth is more fragile than humans? Humans, animals and plantlife alike are ALL extraordinarily adaptable, and in very short timescales. Also, CO2 life/decay time in the atmosphere is NOT in the hundreds of years, but in the vast majority studies, it's between 5 & 15 years - only the IPCC chose to select a study figure that was greater than 100 years. Crisis? What crisis!

  • No, Brenda, the earth is not like a credit card.

  • What's the ideal global temperature?

  • @flyoverjoe room temperature. so we can all walk around in our underpants and be comfortable

  • @joeglimmix I'm an idiot. Of course you're right.

  • In 2007 what profitable technologies were on hand? What?

  • species always go extinct you fool 99% of them die off or will die earth is made 2 kill things like us

  • "The Earth is much more fragile that the Body" Such Craaaaaaaaap!

The whole Irrelevant rant is very flimsy and uninteresting! wishy washy bull crap!

  • @TheTempestSpark Yea, I can't believe she said that. The earth is the most complex and adaptive system known to man. It will survive past any other living thing on it.

  • @slytown Missing the point much? The biosphere does appear to have survived worse things than homo sapiens, but its individual components come and go. Unfortunately we're one of those individual components. You think a massive shock to the ecosystem's gonna be fun?

  • @Chronosaur The point of her speech is rhetorical spouting of the credo to the early 21st century environmental movement. There's a difference between discovering global warming and understanding what causes it. She obviously has not investigated the latter, beyond the fact that her language is incorrect. If she's going to make a statement at a respected debate, she can't muck up something like saying "The earth is much more fragile than the body."

  • @slytown Hm. Do you not agree with what I said though? That the actual point of weather the biosphere will survive as a whole is irrelevant?

  • @Chronosaur To a certain extent, yea, in addition to her statements. Investing in renewable energy just makes sense in certain regions and we need to adapt, but the "signs" of our impact on the biosphere is just too disconnected. If we are to make those changes in our habitation/consumption, then it is much better to understand what we are dealing with than pump all of our resources into dropping CO2 (which is fairly nonsensical) and increasing nuclear power (ridiculous.)

  • "The earth is much more fragile than the body" That's a direct quote from this Obama appointed nitwit!

  • are Brenda and uncle Al all they have , haha lightweight idiots ! Yad 43

  • Craaaaaaaaaaaaaap. Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaap. Brenda want a cracker. I heard no discussion of actual atmospheric science or climate studies. Just a bunch of fear mongering trash. She is probably one of those hypocrites that want everyone else to cut back while she goes to and fro to conferences and lives a lavish lifestyle as a college prof.

  • OMG!! "[measuring] global warming is like taking the Earth's temperature." NO, REALLY?? Sorry, but it is not a metaphor; that's what it actually is. Thirty seconds in and I have to stop to laugh.

  • Wait a second, where is the science here? All I hear is fear mongering, and hyped up scenarios. Meanwhile the other side is saying excuse me dying children, stop with the doomsday prophecies.

  • @Vynjira

LMAO that's exactly what I thought, right from the moment she opened her trap to the moment the video ended!! She's a parrot, reciting the bullshit she "learned" from other parrots!!

  • "the earths fever is only getting worse"

i guess we're hurting gaia. what a load of dingo's kidnies

  • the pro global warming experts are fucking retarded.the anti ones are smart funny knoledgable.crichton was in tears for christ sake! i know who i believe

  • Humans can't withstand an external temp of 107? I live in Arizona, what should I do?

  • greenhouse effect-climate change has become a religion...those ppl like her have ulterior motives.

  • talk about trying to evoke emotions. the animals are struggling, earth has a fever, etc. enough drama lady, stick to facts.

  • She's assuming it is a crisis; not presenting argument as to why it is. Her argument is entirely circular.

  • Almost all of the debaters arguing in favor of global warming assumed the crisis, none of them presented the argument. It is really pathetic.

  • Obviously doesn't understand the concept of debate.

  • The majority of her speech was appeal to emotion. She spent hardly any time debating whether or not global warming is a crisis. She just expected the audience to accept it as fact.

  • I agree; no one addresses actual issues like do these temp increases actually follow carbon increases or vice versa? that might settle this

  • of course- most idiots hold onto pathos(emotions) & mayb some ethos(credibility) rather than logos(logic) hence why plays on emotions r so easy.

the last guy was great who talked about the polar bears- gotta love the polar bears & medieval warm period ;)

  • if the oceans are plaxing "catchup" that means they are NOT WARMING..

  • the earth temeprature is much more fragile than the body.. species.. 7 degrees (maybe).. earths fever, animals, plants, warning signs.. someone get this woman a violine

  • Argos Sea Bouys - they say ocean cooling slightly.

  • we know why IPCC model works so "good": co2, polar bear, co2, two polar bears

  • This person calls herself a scientist ? What a bloody joke. Just wasting good air.

  • "About as stupid as not paying interest on a high interest credit card". That's how the US government has been paying your wages little lady, borrowing all that money, how ungrateful. Pull her funding!

  • OH NO NOT THE CHILDREN. why does she describe the consequences of carbon emissions if she is in fact right instead of explaining why she is right? maybe she should consider the national credit cards that will have to be taken out by the children of poor nations when the emissions tax comes into action.

  • i think because she thinks there is no such thing as a debate on man made climate change

  • She sure likes to talk about credit cards.

No substance, no facts, loads of empty grand standing and seems to be written for 3rd graders.

  • Extinctions? Total Crap. The earth has been a lot hotter than it is today, and the species that are here today SOMEHOW survived the experience. That includes polar bears as well. What a load of crap.

  • Ahem...the species that are here TODAY. Plenty of other species became extinct along the way. And some continue to do so. Old comments, I know, but worth responding to.

  • I should have been clearer

Temperature changes are not going to cause massive extinctions.

    How do we know that?

Answer: The earth has been through massive fluctuations in termperature, much greater than the ones we've seen to date. The species that are with us today are the SURVIVORS of temperature fluctuations.

example: If the polar bears can't handle iceless environs, they'd have all died 10K+ years ago.

  • this woman is an idiot!!!!! even if we did face a climate crisis, Orwellian mandates to encourage alternatives will not bring about an efficient solution. only market forces will bring about change and govt must therefore stop manipulating market forces with oil exploration subsidies, alternatives subsidies, coal subsidies etc

  • what a stupid bitch...most of greenhouse gases is water vapor, co2 is a natural gas that leads to better plant growth

  • Her whole speech was nothing than a prophetic gibberish in her theory. There was no scientific evidence in proving CO2 is the cause.

  • @1337bard neither did the opposing side prove their arguments with actual data. If you're concerned about a lack of sufficient data, then I recommend you consult the swaths of peer-reviewed scientific papers confirming what Dr. Ekwurzel is claiming rather than consulting this unscientific debate. I used to work with Dr. Ekwurzel and can vouch for her as a top rate scientist. If you need help locating peer-reviewed scientific literature, let me now

  • @1337bard You obviously are unaware of the fact that 'scientific theory' is not the same as a normal theory. In fact, a scientific theory is made up of lots of individual scientific facts and thus has much more weight than one single scientific fact.

  • @ReverendBrownbuttock How is it obvious that I am unaware? The only thing that's obvious is your smugness.

  • wow

cheap anecdotes and the sort of statements that are so vague and subjective that you would even be tempted to ask for evidence.

    painful to watch

  • So we have 6 degrees before we die?AND we for sure are causing it? I'm not going to believe someone becuase a bunch of people believe it OR Else I'd be a christian.

  • This woman is not thinking clearly. All temperatures are local, not global. The earth does not and cannot have a fever. 100degrees in Illinois will not melt ice in Antartica. When it's summer in the Northern Hempisphere, it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere.

  • My husband is a chemist, and he says that water vapor is a big absorber of infrared (heat) rays. As the atmosphere gets warmer, the air will get warmer yet. Clouds (bigger droplets) reflect heat well, but invisible humidity absorbs heat better than carbon dioxide. Scary.

  • Dragknuckle, I think your analogy sums up the ineptitude of this woman's arguments beautifully. Made me chuckle aswell.

  • Remember, it takes 100s of years to 'get rid' of CO2!

    There is the truth!

They want to eliminate ALL life on Earth!

I gave this 5 stars, everyone should see the real agenda!

    Dave.

  • Pathetic argument.

  • As an Architect: its absolutely relative - and whimsical- about what is "sustainable" to buildings. Longevity Vs Replaceability is a good example: Concrete has a massive energy consumption through man hours and transportation, but lasts a long time. Wood is renewable, but its upkeep is laborious. Glass lets light in, but costly to produce, is the #1 location for heat gain, etc etc. In the end, its all bureaucratic and political, and hardly scientific.

RE: Algore's Energy Gains POST Renovation.

  • Wow...one hell of a scientific debate... Is she debating or begging?

  • Eight minutes of begging the question. She isn't even trying to engage in debate.

  • My little sister has grown about 4 inches over the past year (she is ten). If she continues to grow at this rate, she will be 8 feet tall by age twenty, and 12 feet tall by age thirty.

This really is how the environmental lobby does their projections.

  • straw man

  • Look up the term "straw man". I do not think it means what you think it means. While you're at it, look up "reductio ad absurdum".

  • Good reference, I hadn't been familiar with that term before.

  • It's not natural the level of CO2.... it has been much higher in the past of the planet when there were no humans around... was that not natural?

  • "It doesnt mean much to our everyday live" How fast she conceded the point.

  • this (b)itch is nutso! No one is talking about a 7 degree increase....sheesh!!!

  • No science. Just threats of disaster. Lindzen stated many agreed-upon facts.

  • So typically unsubstantiated...

  • it's like listening to a religious cult member. all hyperbole and, well you said it, no substance.

  • i siply do not understand the rhetoric...this seems like a political debate..

  • lol she herself dragged her whole team down. I loved the rethoric speech. She had no place there. oh my God, did she say the earth's atmosphere is more fragile than a human's temperature? she must be nuts! you try catching a fucking hurling rock the size of manhattan (meteor) and act like nothing happened...

I live how Chrichton and Stott didn't use up their time

  • Watch I'll make an example to see how much this chick makes sense:

    1. Ice cream sales go up in the summer.

    2. Shark attacks also increase during the summer months.

    3. Ice cream causes shark attacks!!

I hate the alarmists arguements that lack no basis in fact. Heres one she uses:

She thinks CO2 is a pollutant. LOL, so I guess we all should stop breathing.

  • Although I did enjoy seeing & hearing this debate again, sadly, for some unknown reason, blackghost76 chose not to post the last & most important segment of the debate, showing that Dr.s Linzen, Crichton & Stott had won the debate over the warminista alarmist. To hear the ENTIRE 93 minute debate, go to NPR & search "Lindzen". Be sure to scroll down & choose "Hear the full debate".

  • I'm all for using technology to clean up actual environmental polluters, such as coal plants and landfills, but when I look at the list of pollutants coming from a coal plant the last thing I'm worried about is Co2.

  • Doesnt look like anybody on this msg board agrees with the environmental alarmists....

  • Yeah Okay the Earth has a "fever" nice analogy hurrrlll.... the amount of carbon all the people put into the atmosphere is small compared to the co2 put into the air by volcanoes

  • actually that's not true. we put more hydrocarbons in the atmosphere than volcanoes. you must have got that from the great global warming swindle, that mistake has been acknowledged.

  • she also kind of argues her own side by saying that using methane from landfills will make a difference plus doesn't burning methane release CO2

  • I am in 107 degree Fahrenheit temperature right now and I am pretty sure I am not dead so making that an opening argument makes her look like a jackass

  • medically if your body actually WAS 107 degrees you would die. being IN a 107 degree is not the same. your body regulates its temperature through sweating and other measures. that's one of the ways we differ from reptiles.

  • IN 107 degree Fahrenheit temperature. She is talking about being in high temperature whether not your body.

and thanks for explaining the third grade concept of warm blooded and cold blooded animals because it is really hard to grasp (sarcasm).

  • she's talking about if your body actually was 107 degrees. duh. everyone knows people can survive being outside in 107 degree heat, people live in dubai. she means the human body system shuts down if it runs at 107 degrees.

  • I really hate the "it's not natural" argument. If a beaver decided to set something on fire, would it be natural then? aren't we just animals too? If we're not natural, should we destroy ourselves? She is the speaker with the weakest arguments. Actually, all she does at the end is try to create a panic, and emotion does not belong anywhere in a scientific debate.

    Thumbs down to her.

  • Ugh...too much argument by analogy and appeals to emotion...

  • Seriously... and treating people like idiots, not scientists, with irrelevant and non-applicable over-assuming analogies.

  • "Climate models referenced by the IPCC project that global surface temperatures are likely to increase by 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) between 1990 and 2100."

wikipedia's source: Summary for Policymakers, he Physical Science Basis. Contribution of Working Group I to the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

7 degress is within the predicted range, fahrenheit.

  • wtf 7 degrees rise in temperature.......ITS NOT GOING TO RISE 7 DEGREES U CRACKED UP ENVIRONMENTALIST.

  • The Earth mother? i think someone has been doing a bit too much world of warcraft roleplaying. Get back to DnD kid

  • Eat animals RAW that died of a natural death??? haha gross
