  • Where did you get the sheets?

Btw, you are very good :)

  • Excellent! Really special indeed.

  • good but something special about the steel pan sound ! Jamaica and all that and their Carneval ! (Karn Evil)

  • I think I'm in love.

  • you are very good

  • great job dude

  • Three people have no taste. One Hundred and twenty one people see the light.

  • Great great great!! i've known this piece since it was ever published and i have to say that some of your passages are superbly and greatly accomplished.Keep it up. Would you dare trying to tackle "Fugue" from the "Trilogy" album. Best wishes.

  • you have some very nice Skills. you must practice a lot.

how long does it take to learn something like this and can you learn it from Ear?

  • Very nice!

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • Oh my..Wow, this is hard to play...

  • Unbelievable!!! You've nailed it! I didn't think I'd ever hear anybody but Emo play that piece. May I borrow your fingers so I can play that well?

  • wow!!! very cool!

  • Incredible! You've nailed it!

  • Absolutely amazing.... thank you for sharing!!!

  • Imperessive, first class! Only I'm not sure about the sound of the moog.

  • @persopower Should be the *steel drums* patch. It's in the patch book that originally came with the Mini.

  • Well done!!!

  • Incredible job. I've seen ELP three times, and this was like hearing Keith perform live again!

  • Very cool! He had such promise as a composer. I wish Emo didn't turn into such an angry drunk.

At least he left a few great numbers behind.

  • Very impressive indeed!

  • I think that musicians determine what music lives on because they like to PLAY it...musicians will want to PLAY EMOs stuff for many many years to come...just like they want to PLAY Beethoven's piano sonatas today

  • Fantastic stuff. I'm smiling all over my face right now-

  • VERY well done!

  • Absolutely stunning! You Rock my friend!

  • Outstanding, friend! The timing is a bit hurried in the solo piano breaks but so is Emerson's in the live recordings. What you did was something absolutely KEWL & I wish you'd been tapped to do it for the ELP tribute CD from Shrapnel Records. You would have impressed the known world. :-D

PS I've only been playing for 46 years, 6 original CD's, thousands of rock gigs, opening for Kool & The Gang, playing with 3 original classic era groups, & doing hundreds of solo gigs in churches. U rok!

  • One of my very best favorite pieces of music. Well done! Bravo!

  • woow !! :O awesome !

  • Very very nice! Sounds like it needs sped up ever so slightly.

  • @vipergts2207 Well done!

  • muy buena ejecución!

  • yeah amazing dude...

  • This guy's good, but he's no Kerry Shacklett.

  • HA! Nice try, but we all know you're Sherry's alterate account. :/

  • Kerry. And I'm not.

  • Kerry, and I'm not.

  • Amazing! :O

  • Awesome job! I've seen the sheet music for this, and I've TRIED to play this, but will NEVER get it anywhere CLOSE to THAT! So great...

  • Outsanding! I know how hard this is to play...it took me about 2 months to learn the first 42 seconds of the song!

  • There is sheet music for this.

Look at Emerson piano bench on google.

  • Thanks very much for the Emerson piano bench hint! That's fantastic.

  • Pretty amazing...nice job.

  • How old are you sonny?

That's TOO Good. Am most impressed.

Did you pick that up from a recording, or did U a good transcription? I gotta take a crack at this one myself.

  • Just brilliant.

  • Damn dude! I loved it, just like Kieth did it.

  • AMAZING!!!! Set the moog up for the proper sound though, You can get a patch sheet for the old minimoog (ive tried it on mine, sounds spot on!) im sure you can emulate that on the voyager?

  • can you post a "how to" version. I've been dying to learn this my whole life

  • me too

  • Man, this isgood!

  • Awesome! Great job!

Now play it up to tempo...

  • Damn!! You're pretty good pianist, man.

A bit slower than the original but excellent!!

    Congrats!

Did you get it by ear??

  • Awesome dude! You nailed it.

  • good job maybe a bit too slow

  • great!

  • Well done. Very authentic and superbly pulled off. People don't realise how difficult this stuff is to play. [It's great music as well].

  • Impressive playing - well done.

Should have taken your washing off the radiator before recording the vid though hehe

  • Simply amazing. Best rendition on YT I've seen. It could be faster, and it would sound better if you dialed up a steel drum sound instead of that odd synth. Still, great job! 5/5

  • wot synth is that?

  • this is great. some fine playing.

    thanks

  • Wooow !!! great great great !!! i wish i could play it like that !

  • Awesome job! Keith would definitely be applauding if he saw this.

  • you need to play it faster. Still, 5/5

  • Dude, Really good.

You are an insperation. I just learned this peice myself and I am not the greatest at reading music so, your video really helped me out with some of the rhythms and accents. Your tempo is a little slower than EMOs and it makes it easier to hear not picking through the bass and drums to hear the parts.

    Cudos to you.

  • Really good Moog7Anta! I've seen Keith and ELP live several times but not never saw them play this or much of Brain Salad Surgery for that matter which I think is their best album. Great job!!

  • excellent, tout simplement

  • ill just say you are fantastic, but i noticed you are holding back putting those extra trills and fills in with the piano, just let it loose make it your own!

    5 out of 5!

  • Dude, get yourself a drummer, and a top-notch bass player who has grerat vocal abilities, practice, rehearse, and tell me where your going to perform. I want to see you live. You would make Keith Emerson jelous.:) I'm not kidding. This generation would love to see a tribute band that does ELP and so would I--after seeing the real thing 4 times. There are trib bands to Zep, Pink Floyd, and even Steely Dan. Why not ELP? You are the man!!!

  • Mind if I set up my drum set right beside you? Hahahaha

    FANTASTIC!!!!!!

  • Excellent playing- it must have taken a lot of patience to learn this. I 'll tell you a funny story. In the early 90 's a friend asked Keith if he ever wrote down this piece on paper- Keith said "I don 't remember how I played that piece- it was madness"

  • wow

  • very impressive!

  • wow! i WISH I COULD PLAY LIKE THIS!

this is so amazing! 5/5 ELP for life

  • HOLY FUCK

    you have a real talent

  • Magnifico!

How long did it take for you to learn this piece?

  • Makes me want to sell all of my instruments. Fantastic!

  • I actually prefer the piano sections at the end of this song, I would like to see those performed as well, personally. Great job though, I would kill to be able to play this.

  • Fantastic, good to see people appreciate this stuff!

  • Very Nice! Thanks!

  • Forget all that blowhard BS people say on this performance...Dude u fuckin ROCK!!!!

    It's PERFECT!!!!

  • Wonderful! I'd love to back you up on the drums. This is a fun song to play... very challenging. :)

  • grande begio!!!!

  • very very astounding

  • braaaavo!

  • you are my hero!

  • Done very well.I still would have used a steel drum synth sound in the break but you kept the integrity of the song intact .exelent.

  • Fabulous. Now increase time signature and try it again, my son. Keith is watching.

    Well done!

  • Absolutely brilliant!! Did you get sheet music for this. I've tried to work it by ear to an okay degree but I haven't got it nailed like this. I'm well impressed and a little envious. Great work,

  • thats friking goooood

    dude

  • I'd swear I am listening the actual recording of KE 9 2nd Impression! How did you get the piano that sounds identical to the one Keith used on Brain Salad Surgery?

  • Totally awesome

  • Wow! Wow! Wow! Do you play in a ELP tribute band? If not, I hope you play in a good band and they pay you well :-)

  • I can't believe this! You have this town to the "T", and this is one of their most difficult compositions--even Carl Palmer said this himself! Where do you live? I'm a percussionist who plays ELP to the "T", and I know these tunes by heart. Have timps, chimes, gong, replica of stainless steel drum set-the works! We should record together!

I'll send you a message and provide info. The piano sounds identical to the original recording! You are incredibly talented!

  • You're an incredible talent - thanks for sharing

  • Excellent! You play very well...!

Thanks for sharing the video :D

  • Did you transcribe this yourself?

  • Ouaaaaaah, bravo bravo.

Bien comme tout surtout que ce n'est pas ce qu'il y a de plus mélodieux chez ELP.

Si tu pouvais éviter de claquer des doigts pour compter les temps ça serait parfait.

    Chapeau en tout.

  • hey, nice playing. is there any chance i could get the music from you to play this?

  • This makes me wish I kept taking piano lessons.

  • Clever, clever, clever brilliant talented boy. Fuckin awesome

  • Bravo!

I'm going to transcript the 2nd impression.

This video will be very helpful for me.

  • Bravo. Awesome job! You've got some amazing talent there. I cuncur with the dude below, your synthesizer needs to sound a bit more like a steel drum sound. Other than that... perfect!

  • Both pieces are amazing. Great Job. I look forward to your next video.

    David

  • play anything from improvisations on the welcome back album. you are the only hope left. i can't quite play it all, wish i could. good luck!

  • Dude, your amazing!

  • very well, i really enjoy it, but the time it's slow

  • A real pleasure to hear this.

Your piano work is great. Most folks will be looking forward to more posts, whatever the pieces. Getting the 'right synth sound' is always tricky even for the pro's, the playing is what counts. Very well done indeed!!!

  • I cant wait for part 2

  • imagine someone saying, "you suck" hahaha

You are awesome, but do u think u are able to play it as fast as the great Kieth Emerson himself?

  • I'm not sure about the sinth you're using....anyway, look for a simple Steel Drums patch (or remove the large amount of resonance on the OSC of you patch), it would be ok.

Good luck, waiting for more posts!

  • I'm extremely impressed. Great job on that. I remember the first time I heard Brain Salad Surgery and that piece...magic.

  • Awesome, your performance is really good!!

The only disturbing thing is the patch you used for the "latin" section...you should program a Steel Drums-like sound.

Anyway, I'm quite impressed...do you have the score of the tune or you learned it by ear?

I studied the 2ND impression some years ago, but it was a frustrating job!

    FIVE STARS!

  • Hi!I'm working on that, it's very hard to reproduce the saturated sound, like the one keith uses..i've learned it by ear and with some help from few midi of this piece..

Thank you for watchin my video!

  • At the risk of ruining the integrity of your accomplishment, I have sheets for the rest of the song if you want them. Of the 4 sections of Karn Evil 9, this is the one I haven't yet dared to try, and I can't imagine trying to figure it out by ear. Bravo

  • WOw!

  • Wow!

  • Bravo! Chissà in che band spettacolare suoni! Ci vorrebbe proprio qualcuno disposto a diffondere il Progressive per la Brianza!

  • Bravo! Chissà in che band spettacolare suoni!
