  • what's he using to synthesize his voice like that?

  • @collinswayze I'm pretty sure he's using a vocoder.

  • i cried listening to this a few hours ago. it's so beautiful.

  • this album really expands what you can do with almost nothing.

  • amazing... even better than the original

  • can anyone tell me how to get this vocal processing/effect in garage band? please!!!! anyone?

  • @VcookiemonsterV

I THINK he used his keyboard to use some sort of autotune effect to his voice.

U never hear any keyboard melody in the entire song, so this is what i think he does.

    Hope that helps. :)

  • @Odinsgade yeah I know his gear. I'm pretty big on synths but I was just wondering if there was an easier way. I found it. It's helicon's voice live touch

  • @VcookiemonsterV Its a vocoder. Basically the notes he plays on the keyboard go through a bus onto his vocal track.

  • @VcookiemonsterV Hey! I have experience with this kind of thing. His keyboard is called a prophet 08, and it has a built in vocoder, which is what he uses. I'm sorry to say it's not possible in garageband /: But what you CAN do is get yourself an outside vocoder and plug it into a keyboard/mic yourself and THEN into garageband. My personal favorite is the "Voice Box" By electro harmonix. You should check it out (:

  • @PirateSecrets Yeah I'm pretty experienced as well. I knew his rig setup I was just trying to get the auto tune/harmony sound like in the fall creek song. I found helicon's voicelivetouch everyone should check that out. you won't be disappointed

  • @PirateSecrets I would love to sing into a mic whilst playing chords at the keyboard and achieve the same effect (rich harmonies) that JB does here. I've a decent Cassio keyboard and as far as I know, it has no built in vocoder. Can I buy a vocoder on its own and just plug in? I want to achieve a sound that is similar to Blake's in its similarity to a natural voice, unlike those vocoders that make people sound like computers.Possible? Any recommendations gearwise? THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.

  • @sarahbw1228 The voice box is EXCELLENT. It's what I use. You can tweak it a lot, and yeah, you can use the voice box with any mic/keyboard with an output or headphones jack

  • @PirateSecrets thx for the reply! my concern is that the vids ive seen of the voice-box r of ppl using preset harmony effects (ie added thirds) whereas i want to do what jb is doing in this video which is hving the harmonies being played at the keyboard heard as extra harmonies in my vocal track. can the voice-box do this? sry to ask so many questions :(

  • @sarahbw1228 OH yes sorry, Yes It can, there is a "Vocoder" Selection which does exactly what JB is doing (:

  • @PirateSecrets THX !

  • @PirateSecrets Looked into that "voice box" you recommended: do you think with that + my keyboard + my mic I could achieve a sound like the one in this video?

    THX AGAIN

  • bacon don't fly too high...

  • @thecaboose7 I really really love this song, but this is hilarious...

  • Captivating, haunting, so fresh. Very excited to find new music that I want to listen to over and over.

  • NEVER.LISTENING.TO.THE.RECORDED.VERSION.AGAIN.

  • no comment...the words not existe when you want to express a feel so nice,a feeling that only james blake can make you feel

  • 3:35 is just... :o

  • So peaceful.

  • ANYONE KNOW THE VOICE FX HES USING?

    talkbox/auto tuning?

  • @StephaneSounds its a vocoder effect i think

  • @StephaneSounds It's the vocoder on his synth (some sort of prophet?) mixed with his dry normal voice. He changes the format voicing of the vocoder when by playing different chords on the keyboard.

  • @StephaneSounds vocoder ? and he send signal to it from the keyboard

  • this is insane...i cant handle this!

  • Does anyone know the name of the vocal fx and harmonizer/s he is using?

  • Its kinda funny that T-Pain and James Blake use similar vocodors, and yet James makes it work so well. Props from New York

  • holy shit.

  • It's things like this that give me hope for music these days. Amongst the multitude of terrible artists using the same tools to make terrible music, Mr. Blake is creating some of the most beautiful music i've heard in a long time. Thank you Kindly sir.

  • This is music at it's best. Thank you James.

  • awesome

  • I first heard this song first live. You can imagine what that means to me :)

  • @Marixpress2 so did i. the recorded version doesn't do it justice, this sets the bar so high

  • @sno0ogans I agree, but you have to give it to the guy that he can be so creative in the studio. plus without the album version you dont get the comparison. Music and love my friend.
