  • konnichi-ha- i could have swore it was good afternoon

  • @sisila12 yeah it is my cousin is from japan and she teaches me

  • How did this guy end up living in Japan???

  • so you live in Matsubara-Shi?

Also, does anybody know how to say:"let me guess..." etc etc. Because I find that a fun way to start talking to girls is just to say some observation. eg. "let me guess.. you're from/ you play/ you like etc". Even if your observation is completely wrong, you just started a convo. They'll probably ask, "nande?" (why?) if they're intrigued, and then you say, "nazenara.." (because) and just say what inspired your observation. its easy to continue!(: (my jap sux, iknw)

  • 19 dislikes, eh?

  • why are u acting so nice haha

  • Thank you tom

  • I kept getting stuck trying to make it sound like how you pronounced it. Im 22 and I would like to go to Japan however, I have difficultly remembering words in English let alone remembering enough to get buy over there. :P

  • @iamfuturetrunks dude (if you are indeed a dude), I got sent to japan for this school thing, I was 19 when I got here, failed every japanese paper I ever took (seriously-it was my bum around subject), forgot how to say excuse me when I arrrived, didn't even bother trying a phrase book on the plane over, and now, after 5 months of slowly adjusting and doing some seriously necessary self study (check out iKnow.jp -costs money buts its awesome if you're serious about learning), I'm loving it. Do it

  • あなたは何を冗談吸うない ??????

  • How do you translate Japanese into our characters?

Like: konnichi wa = hello = こんにちは or

    あなたがとてもよく似合う = you look great = . . . . .

Is there a special translater for that?

  • How do you ask " do you have a girlfriend?" (to a guy) in japanese without sounding too formal?

  • @meg99zimsbestbud

The phrase he gave is gender neutral, but I think people don't use that phrase often (it is pretty much the same as you saying "Is there anyone you are dating?" instead of "Do you have a girlfriend/boyfriend?" I don't know about you, but I know most people would phrase it with the second sentence.)

As a girl, I recommend you ask, "Kanojo imasu ka? "

  • 2:37 ''mmkay?''

  • Wow, you went to fordham!! I'm there now!!!

By the way, your videos are funny and very informative...One day I hope to travel to Japan as well!!!

  • @gena

It's like a friend greeting thing. It literally means "hello hello". Or "yeah I'm here" kinda thing.

    But if you wanna be all formal and everything you say "konnichiwa" (;

    Hope that helped.

  • How are japanese girls like? i mean they are not "easy" like every women..but how is the chance as a foreigner to be rejected ?

    peace

  • @Serkant75 Idk about the average jp girl, but every single asian girl i've ever known has always told me they arent that into asian boys, so hopefully we're in luck LOL XD

Maybe thats why they know english, maybe the ones who dont learn english are the ones who dont care for foreigners. Who knows :)

  • @Serkant75

Easy? Pft, guys are easy. Everyone knows what they want. =)

  • @BrambleHeart000

    Lies!

  • how long did it talk u to learn japanese?

  • Comment removed

  • i allways wanted to go to japan

  • Tom <3

  • Back to basics, I like it....... a lot of guys should listen up as this works not only on japanese girls but any girl....... being female though I should point out...... girls do want to hear you like her personality and not just the way she looks. But I guarantee you that if you don't mention she looks good... your not going to do well either. Catch 22 I'm afraid. BTW keep up the good work:)

  • ur a little bit weird at the part when u say no im single in japanese ..

  • i know japanese now

  • Woo, Fordham! Hoping to do study abroad in Tokyo. Interesting videos.

  • I love your videos!!

  • Your Japanese is fine in terms of pronunciation but too out of fashion in terms of the situation "pick-up".

"when they see you fumbling Japanese, its kinda cute"

    hahaha.....plz dont be a fool.

  • Haha, I'm half Japanese and half American and I absolutely love your videos :)

  • Lol most girls in Japan would laugh a bit when they hear foreigners talking in japanese and trying to ask them out

  • haha these pick up lines won't get you anywhere if you are seriously looking for a relationship.... but if you are looking for maybe a quick pick up or one time thing I would suggest not to as it makes the rest of us foreigners look bad. D:

  • isnt it Tsukiatteru hito iru desu ka? for a question

  • can girls say those stuff to? to guys nd girls? or only guys to girls? o.o

  • Aren't you an English teacher over there? What would they say if they saw this? LoL =p

  • i no a little japanese but im kinda rusty :)

  • wow you got great pronunciation(?) thanx for this I should try sometime when I go when i'm older only study it for a man cause i'm a girl :/

  • Could a girl say these to a guy, too or would you need to change certain words so it worked in the opposite direction - if you follow me?

  • @SezFromMalygos yeahh thats why you have to learn some of the responses that you might get.

  • HAHAHAHA omg this was hilarious.

    I enjoyed that a lot.,

  • I've always wondered exactly why 'suki' is pronounced 'ski' or something like that..

    Or..

    Well..

That's how it sounds to me.

  • Wow I'm german, and I have no problems pronouncing Japanese words, I struggle with french a lot though. Hmm, Japanese sounds fun!

  • @Queenlativa4ever

I speak fluent German, and I think the reason we can speak Japanese well is because of the prounounciation. The rules for acutally speaking the language are very similiar, like the way we say the letters: a, e, i, o, and r.

  • How many years of learning Japanese did you finally find yourself speaking confidently? Just checking as I'm just starting to learn at a ripe old age of 33!

  • japanese girls are hot:$

  • @MissLOVEsick28 you can say that again

  • actually konnichi wa is good afternoon ohayo is good morning and konban wa is good evening the only hello i know of is moshi moshi for ansering a phone call

  • こんにちは、私はあなたのビデオを愛し、あなたのための日本語を学ぶ!

I think its wrong, becuz mah japanese is poor :(

  • Great video. I may not go to Japan, but these are great to know.

  • Super helpful! Thank you! ^-^ ♥

  • Japanese is not so hard to pronunciate, but for those who only speak English, they will find this hard, 'cause their sounds are different to the Japanese sounds, if you talk Spanish, you can speak Japanese more easy and with good diction. Or that's what I think, I speak Spanish, English and I am trying to learn Japanese, the hard thing of Japanese are the Kanjis, Hiraganas and Katakanas.

  • here is a little something that worked really well for me when I was in Japan, every time I would be talking to a cute girl I would complement their smile... and since they don't really expect you to know ANY japanese they would ALWAYS get really flatered and kind of shy, after that you jsut gotta talk to them and take them somewhere nice...

what I would say is: "Anatawa kawaii egao o motteimasu", wich is something like: "You have a pretty smile". Worked every time for me, hope it helps!

  • I found this to be really useful...but could you do a bit of a translation if it's a girl trying to use this lines? Girls aren't to use "boku" in the Japanese language...I've heard it's supposedly vulgar in their culture? Or is that my mistake?

  • @inufan6 she says bye ni which ni is 2 and so she's saying bye bye or bye squared it just cuter lol

  • i wanna know more Japans I almost know this.

  • this is way to advanced... xD

  • Going to Japan as an American/European, people in Japan doesn't assume that you know any Japanese at all so when you're trying to talk to someone, they're pretty good at understanding what you're trying to say and use their very good body language. Japanese people are so polite and understanding. :)

  • how long have u live in japan and how long have u live in america?

  • i want part 2 !! :D

  • i want part 2 !

  • out of curiosity:

    where did YOU learn japanese??

  • i don't get japanese characters...

  • @ShaolinMudkip its actually quite easy but it requires a little memorization. but... uh well there are three writing scripts um one of them is kanji. you probably know a lot of people get kanji tattoos because well they look cool. but the other two, hiragana and katakan, well they are as easy to memorize as english letters!

  • @ShaolinMudkip oops sorry i meant katakana not katakan

  • ilke means go/que i'm scared / i means yeah /ohio mean good morning/shi to means oh, crap / astte ne moto means love me more /kitto means surely /astte yo ne moto means love me please more

  • @ileamateo123 were you purposely spelling those completely wrong? que? Spanish? and its ohayou not ... ohio

  • man your so funny!!!

  • "Why are you acting so nice?" Lmao. xDD

  • eee...my only comment will be, guys don.t learn japanese from him, his japanese is like engrish...sooo weird. The things who are talking about...you will never listen in a lifestyle conversation...kimi to motto hanashitai....anata no seikaku suki da yo...japanese don.t talk in that way...i don.t know what type of japanese guy, girl talk to...but definitily japanese don.t talk like that, i.m spanish living in japan and i.m pretty sure about that.

  • @debittoinjapan hey im spanish and im gonna go to japan! anyway yeah your right.

  • To me this doesn't seem like learning japanese.

This seems like a guide: "How to hit on japanese girls"

    LOL.

  • nice arigato-gozaimas YOSH!

  • @gjkxsee add the "u"

  • I'm waitin for part 2 bro I listed em on my phone can't wait to check it out

  • LOL at the end! My family name is Yamanaka

  • lol wen i watched dis i typed it down my cell phone...Tried to look for part 2 but i guess u didnt make one.. hopin ull make it soon... I REALLY WANNA GO TO JAPAN !!!!

    I SUBSCRIBED

  • omfg lol u make me laugh

  • insane letters

  • I love the way Japanese language sounds. how they put different emphasis on the syllables. not offense, sounds much more advanced and intelligent than the other Asian languages (Korean, Viatnamese) IMO

  • @YaPopsable Lol, they'd prolly kill you.

  • @YaPopsable watashi wa hentai baka desu わたしはへんたいばかです

  • lol

  • @roflowned this is comin from why would i trust a guy called roflowned?

  • do they scream in japanese when your fucking?

  • How do you suggest learning kanji? It is hard.

  • Japanese girlfriend...jelous.

  • If you find the "tsukiatteru hito iru?" part to be too hard to say, you can simply use: 'Suki na hito iru?" which is basically "If there someone you like?"

    ところで、いつまで日本にいったのか?

  • dam the i like your personality part is hard. lol. and isnt it if u mess up a tiny bit of pronuciation it changes to a whole different sentence?

  • @tylerwalker2 sometimes definitely. like um just an example, uh mo means also or too but mo- , with a longer "o" sound means darn it.

  • How did u learn japanese ??

  • you rock! :D

I also watched your "japanese supermarket adventure" :D

    that was interesting :P

I'll definatly go there someday. :)

  • oh yea I am sure you can do japanese...

  • I thought it was funny how "dekakenai" literally means go. At first, I thought you meant travel, not go. I realized what you meant, later on. Anyways, it was amusing to hear your girly voice. Loved your video.

  • Your shirt says Fordham???!! Im going there day after tomorrow for a 3 day honors tour! i was accepted and will probably start this fall. Are you a graduate? Would you recommend it to someone still not completely decided? I know they have study abroad in japan, so are u doing this thru them? srry for all the questions ^^ I actually was contemplating just today whether i wud want to take japanese at fordham or stick to french. cant believe i came across this vid totally by accident. small world.

  • @rezhear My sister got her MA a Fordham. She seemed to like it. :)

  • @ghostofmatsubara in an anime luky start they say sumthing that sounds lik bye me but ther talking 2 sum1 else and its wen ther leaving wut r they saying?

  • @ghostofmatsubara

Hey, I'm visiting Japan after I graduate from High School. I'm in the tenth grade this year. How many years of Japanese should I take in order to be able to communicate at least a little bit?

  • @rezhear i go to Fordham its awesome

  • @MrMeow76 Agreed, I go here now too :)

  • WOW your pronounce is pretty good!

    That is almost native actually.

And I'm pretty sure because I'm a Japanese! lol

    これからも日本語がんばって下さい!

    応援してます\(^o^)/ sorry my terrible English~

  • i will NOT go out with you!! SHOT DOWN!!!!!!!! hahaahaa

  • Lemme give you some tips... When you give the translation from English to Japanese... for example... "Genki desu ka?" give back the answer so they can actually know what the answer is "Hai, genki desu! Arigatou." Yes, I'm fine. Thank you.

As for the rest.... Anata no nihon-go is not so bad at all... xD

    Take care, man

  • I thought this was pretty cute but I think it's way more common for people to ask you

    彼氏いる?(Kareshi iru)

    Rather than 付き合っている人いるの?(tsukiatteiru hito iru)

I have never ever had a Japanese person ask me 付き合っている人いるの? I think this might be a little bit of and English ism on your part.

    Otherwise fun stuff :)

  • Very helpful :D

    Thanks

  • genki desu ka, means are you fine

  • "OH YOUR IN LUCK!!"

Im in luck...? SHES, in luck

     hahahaha

    nice vid

  • Damn, you live in Osaka?

Why do you speak like a 関東人? 大笑

  • Thanks to you every guy who'll see this will talk girlyish hahaha.

I can see by your video that you're:

    1: livin in Tokyo

2: don't talk to guys often

    :p

Anyways, nice pronounciation for an American ;)

  • you should do more japanese language videos as these are very helpful!

  • ghostofmatsubara, Another point to consider. I like the video.

  • LOL お元気で御座いますか ... I'll be wary of anyone who says that at first meeting :P
