This plane was actually meant to be vtol (vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft and was actually flown by German/Austrian test pilots. It had duel props that rotated in opposite directions. The plane would face nose up for takeoff and would tip sideways to move forward. To most pilots landing became a problem so the planes were ditched after the mission with the pilot jumping out a hatch on the side of the cockpit. The were armed with the canons the me-162's used, and sometimes with 3 smaller

But yes they thought it would work.Even after the war the U.S continued experiments, the most notable was the Convair XFY Pogo (with jet engine), that used similar design. The idea was airfields were being bombed night and day so they needed something such as this. However I myself liked the Triebflugel, which had a much more interesting design.

@candr The FXY Pogo used the almost unsusable T-40 Gas turbrine engine, and abject failure in any aircraft it was put in (the A2D sky shark, the Pogo and convairs Salmon XFY1), The Triebfugel never made it off the drawing boards provisons for the pilot to eject/leave the aircraft, The Pogo and Salmon were designed for point interceptions off Naval Vessels, (not airfields) with high rate of climb being the most important and the ability to be placed on other ships besides carriers.

Very late in the war and it didn't see much any action. They statrted building jet engines to late. If they would have put the ME-262 into action in early 1943, which according to records was possible, The war would have dragged. Thank God Hitler didn't listen to his advisors and Genrals or...

Seems almost impossible and definately not practical lol
