Blaise Pascal wasn't a moron. He was actually a pretty smart dude and contributed a lot to mathematics and science. His eponymous wager arose out of his great contributions to probability theory. If taken in the context of Pascal's religious philosophy and the presuppositions that come with it, the wager is actually rather groundbreaking in some areas. He never considered it proof of god, only an argument for belief. Yes, the wager is a bad argument, but don't condemn Pascal over it.
lol... i wouldn't think there was another 5 minutes to waste on god, period... centuries after zeus, ashur, poseidon, and others are turned to dust, we're still superstitious
I've always found Pascal's wager to be a particularly weak argument. Any deity who prefers dishonest belief over honest disbelief isn't, to my mind, a deity worth anyones worship.

1:26, "Without direct communication from any god(s), I am left with whatever PEOPLE tell me."
Enough said!

Nicely done. I wouldn't have thought there was another five minutes on Pascal's wager that would actually be interesting. You proved me wrong!

Pascal always loses that wager.

it's not so much a wager but rather a threat. and pascal fails to scare me
THEREIZNOGOD 2 years ago
You're exactly right on that: it is a threat, pure and simple, and should be called what it is.
Threats and intimidation to effect control and influence in THIS world are what religion is, and always has been, all about.
Thanks for , once again, telling it like it is.

I have wagered everything on the assertion that there is no god. What are the odds?
