Do you know why he takes at bath in a glass and rubs him self on the glass? I have a Parrotlet and he tries to take a bath on a side of a soda bottle or glass. But will not take a bath in a tub thing. Why is this?
What a cutie pie, he looks exactly like our baby, but a boy. love the hanging upside down. almost thought it was our bird as the kitchen is also very similar. too funny.
haha you can tell he's a parrotlet / parakeet because only 5% of his attention is on "taking a bath" - the other 95% of his being is wholly fixated on "figuring out how to overturn the glass of water, and eventually drop it on the floor" hahaha - my budgies are *exactly* the same way. i think that behaviour in somehow encoded in their DNA :D
are parotlets friendly? i hear they can be mean....we are thinking of maybe getting one. would you recommend? and do they have a lot of health issues like budgies do? we had one we loved dearly and he died suddenly after 6 yrs :( we still arent quite sure what happened to him.
Sure, they can be mean, but so can you and I if treated improperly! They have a fearless attitude but they are also sweet and loving and very playful in a loving home that gives them the attention that they need. They have a big personality for being such little guys but when they get upset it's more amusing than it is off-putting, IMO. I would do research on Parrotlet health issues but it's always good to take your little friend to the vet once a year for a check up either way :) Good luck!

Hi i just purchased a parrotlet yesterday afternoon! he isnt hand tamed so yes they can tend to bite but its not that big of a deal! just spend some time with it! make sure that if it bites you, you dont pull back becasue it will notice pulling u back! and it will be like if i bite?! she leaves me alone! so it will bite to get its way! and u dont want it to do that! so keep insisting! hope this helps a little! u can also watch other videos on youtube that can help a lot more:) Good luck!
My parrotlet is is 8 months old. The only time I have seen him bath is trying to splash water from his drinking tube on his wings. I put a small bowl of warm water in his cage and showed it to him, but he would have nothing to do with it. I have also tried putting his in the show. He seems like he likes it for a minute or so but then that's enough. The one thing he does like is sitting on my shoulder and letting me dry him with a hair dryer.
It's all about timing! When you see your bird trying to bathe in his drinking tube, then put the bowl in his cage. Once he gets used to it he'll jump right in!
so cute! give him a bowl of water, he'll have more room to splash around.
