  • Awesome game and times :-) I need a retro day

  • ah the smooth high frame rate the colour depth this was one of the games that made me buy the mighty 486 dx2 66 in 92 that and wing commander.

i still have my amiga and i hope it still works great pc yes its a personal computer.

  • FROOOOOONTIER!!!! THESE WERE THE DAYS!!! YEEHAAA!!!

  • Still loving this!!! ...i liked the 'night on bare mountain' when going into battle!

  • i had this 68060 mpc turbo-board on this !!!!!.....awesome playing, hours of hours endless fun, action.I WAS THE QUEEN OF SPACE !!!!!

  • @XXplaythegamesXX

i agree ,played it for month and month, was fun ,had action and a huge universe to explore,to bad they dont make games like that no more

  • @pandora6686 more like galaxy you can flight to unprospected planets:-)

  • I am still playing Frontier :-))

  • Its really hard to believe that this intro is played in real time (I jest - heehee) Great game though, loe it.

  • this music ALWAYS gets me psyched up for a days honest pirating/exploring

  • I loved this on the A1200.

The Amiga music was just amazing.

  • I did play that on amiga 1200 68030/50mhz

  • yea,I also pleeeeaaaaseeeee, do the remake

  • Graphics arent very good these days

but this one game i still miss now.

I just wish there was a remake......

    PPPPLLLLEEEAAASSSEEEEE

  • While technically not a remake, there is an updated port of Elite 3 (First Encounters) with much better graphics. It's called FFED3D.

  • But StarFox is something completely different... Elite Frontier is a trade/space flight simulator and StarFox... well, StarFox is just an action game.

  • @42317 Starfox was awesome. I thought for aaaages that it would eventually come out for the Amiga due to it being an Argonaut game... Awwww @_@

  • longest intro ?

  • and all made in realtime 3d graphics :)

  • Has anyone of you ever managed to intercept an ememy spacecraft by overtaking it in hyperspace?

I was after a guy once and followed him into hyperspace and arrived before he was due. But he never showed up.

Besides, is there any possibility to assassinate a person without the authorities realizing it?

  • this is in the dictionary. next to the entry for kick ass!

  • ive tried to get the amiga version with no sucess help for this pc

  • I loved this game like no other. We need elite 4 to happen, to put eve and the x series in their place. Proper sized planets, real physics, real time landing should all be essential in any new version.

  • QUALITY! Wish they could have ironed out the glitches mind! REMAKE REMAKE REMAKE!!!!!

  • I hope David Braben make Elite 4

  • I'd love to see a good remake of this game.

  • Wow, i loved this game!

The music still sends shivers down my spine, thanks!

  • The creators of Eve on line played this and got the gaming bug here. And the idea for a space business enterprise game.

  • But EVE was rubbish, I hated the fact you had no real control over your ship.

  • That's why I have my " Star Wars Galaxy" account ,That is real control in the "Jump to Light Speed"

  • EVE is crap in about 100 diffrent ways, I played for 3 years before diching it.

  • lol why did you play it for so long .. morronic morron

  • Because I spent to much money on it, idiot.

  • Damn i miss games like this... we have got fat on graphics and FPS stats, the gameplay itself has suffered.

played it on an A600 - remember it running really sweet.

  • yeah, i played this on the 500+, 600 and 1200. Does anyone remember though expansion boards you could get for the A1200 that used to let you use the PC SIMMs of the time. I had a 16MB expansion which back then was just massive. I was the envy of all my mates for ages.

  • hum, the FPS seem to Fluctuate a bit.. ;0)

  • that's why video is based on Amiga 500, the computer i had(and still hav) a it's time ;-)

  • this game on my old A500 and wingcommander got me into PC's just love this.

the X games are fantastic but this set the benchmark.

  • i spent a great deal of money at the time getting an a530 40mhz accelerator from gvp so i could get a decent frame rate on this game, and it ran beautifully.

the elite sieries of games have to be the best ever made.

  • i remember gvp products were very expensive(i think to remember a hard disc whose price was same as an A500

  • LOL :) This grab was made on an Amiga 500 because of the very familiar framerate which I learned to recognize during my numerous years of playing this peace of art. I still do :) Currently on Imperial stationed on Achenar with plenty of credits to go :)

  • I played this game constantly for 4 and half months back then. Got pretty far into it. Fortunately I had just gotten an A1200, so it ran much better than what it would have on my previous A500. I still have the game, but alas the savegames are long lost.

  • bad luck for the savegames but now with your new Amiga u can advance faster

  • Just loved the old amiga version!!

  • this ran really well on my a4000/030, alot smoother :) x

  • Can only imagine what it would have been like with an 060 expansion board... :)

  • it would be amazing :-)

  • This game was one of the mythic legends on the Amiga platform. Hope that "Elite 4", if it's ever released will be a blockbuster like this one...

  • i used to love this game sooo much, and it looked absolutely fantastic for its day. how easily content we were :)

  • and with only one floppy :D

  • Awesome game, but so many bugs!

  • still cool when music starts playing :D

  • lol it was like that in my case also :). You had to set details really low to play on a500. But what was imagination for? :D

  • use faster cpu for capturing this video - this a500 sucks as the game sucked on a500. The intro is great, the FPS sucks.

  • yes the fps sucks but i like to remember the intro as the first time i saw

  • kalateur; I agree absolutely. This is how I played the game and how I remember it.

Sure, the A500 frame rate wasn't great, but if you turned the detail down it was usable enough that it didn't detract from the game. Not that I'm saying it wouldn't have looked prettier on a faster machine, but not owning one didn't spoil things!

(IIRC this intro ran with the default detail level so is probably slightly jerkier than the game would have been when I was actually playing it).

  • Anyway, although it looks clunky now, it was impressive that they could do that on the A500. Even at the time of the game's release (late 1993), the A500's CPU was slow (it had been replaced by the slightly faster A1200 a year previously).

And the whole thing ran in 1MB (sheesh, that sounds *tiny* now!) I had a 2MB of chip RAM by then, but I assume it still ran completely in memory on 1MB machines.

  • yes, its based on classic 1mb Amiga and yes, its was amazing running on that machine with those specs

  • It's a bit jerky - what did you playback on? I used WinUAE with the video settings right up.

  • Awesome!

After This I've never seen a game like this.

  • yeah, u've unlimited possibilities when u have a good spacecraft

  • Had Commodore And PC versions And Were Great Although i loved The First Elite Most of All it was a Revolution in its day.

  • thanks for the rating. I think you're lucky because at that time, i've bought the pc version(here in Spain Amiga was not very popular, not as popular at UK for instance) struggling with the msdos to free some memory

  • I remember how me and my big bro edited the config.sys and autoexec.bat files to get frontier to run on PC =)

  • yes, it was hard. at that time, i used to startup my computer with the classical "boot disk" :-)

  • Boot disks, PCs are too easy to use nowadays :) There was back then that Memmaker program that freed some memory, but to get a mouse workin with Frontier.. thats another story.

  • Thanks for the rating!!

  • Great intro I loved playing that game.

  • Thanks for posting this, you have made my night, this brings back so many memories of my childhood, you are worthy of the 5 star rating, I give Hails to thee!
