But StarFox is something completely different... Elite Frontier is a trade/space flight simulator and StarFox... well, StarFox is just an action game.
Sometimes I've managed to overtake an enemy in hyperspace. But in the majority of cases the enemy is faster than you....except for travelling inside a system. When you arrive, open up the systems map. Here you can see dots, which represent other ships. Each color stands for another weight class. Hit F10 and select one of the vessels as a target. Activate your radar mapper to see, if it's the correct vessel. Engage autopilot+stardreamer -> fullfill your contract ^^
I loved this game like no other. We need elite 4 to happen, to put eve and the x series in their place. Proper sized planets, real physics, real time landing should all be essential in any new version.
yeah, i played this on the 500+, 600 and 1200. Does anyone remember though expansion boards you could get for the A1200 that used to let you use the PC SIMMs of the time. I had a 16MB expansion which back then was just massive. I was the envy of all my mates for ages.
i spent a great deal of money at the time getting an a530 40mhz accelerator from gvp so i could get a decent frame rate on this game, and it ran beautifully.
the elite sieries of games have to be the best ever made.
LOL :) This grab was made on an Amiga 500 because of the very familiar framerate which I learned to recognize during my numerous years of playing this peace of art. I still do :) Currently on Imperial stationed on Achenar with plenty of credits to go :)
I played this game constantly for 4 and half months back then. Got pretty far into it. Fortunately I had just gotten an A1200, so it ran much better than what it would have on my previous A500. I still have the game, but alas the savegames are long lost.
kalateur; I agree absolutely. This is how I played the game and how I remember it.
Sure, the A500 frame rate wasn't great, but if you turned the detail down it was usable enough that it didn't detract from the game. Not that I'm saying it wouldn't have looked prettier on a faster machine, but not owning one didn't spoil things!
(IIRC this intro ran with the default detail level so is probably slightly jerkier than the game would have been when I was actually playing it).
Anyway, although it looks clunky now, it was impressive that they could do that on the A500. Even at the time of the game's release (late 1993), the A500's CPU was slow (it had been replaced by the slightly faster A1200 a year previously).
And the whole thing ran in 1MB (sheesh, that sounds *tiny* now!) I had a 2MB of chip RAM by then, but I assume it still ran completely in memory on 1MB machines.
thanks for the rating. I think you're lucky because at that time, i've bought the pc version(here in Spain Amiga was not very popular, not as popular at UK for instance) struggling with the msdos to free some memory
Boot disks, PCs are too easy to use nowadays :) There was back then that Memmaker program that freed some memory, but to get a mouse workin with Frontier.. thats another story.
Thanks for posting this, you have made my night, this brings back so many memories of my childhood, you are worthy of the 5 star rating, I give Hails to thee!
Awesome game and times :-) I need a retro day

While technically not a remake, there is an updated port of Elite 3 (First Encounters) with much better graphics. It's called FFED3D.

Has anyone of you ever managed to intercept an ememy spacecraft by overtaking it in hyperspace?
I was after a guy once and followed him into hyperspace and arrived before he was due. But he never showed up.
Besides, is there any possibility to assassinate a person without the authorities realizing it?

The creators of Eve on line played this and got the gaming bug here. And the idea for a space business enterprise game.
kooodeal 3 years ago
But EVE was rubbish, I hated the fact you had no real control over your ship.

That's why I have my " Star Wars Galaxy" account ,That is real control in the "Jump to Light Speed"

Damn i miss games like this... we have got fat on graphics and FPS stats, the gameplay itself has suffered.

use faster cpu for capturing this video - this a500 sucks as the game sucked on a500. The intro is great, the FPS sucks.
