All you people are crazy...Avatar is a good movie yes, but not best movie of the year. That should go to The Hurt Locker, District 9, or Inglorious Basterds. And it's a damn good thing for the movie industry that a great film won and not just a good one.

I believe the reason why Avatar was ridiculed and did not get the votes stems from the Academies fear that in the future, actors could be replaced by 0s & 1s (CGI).

And that banana scene was among numerous indicators that he was creepin big time.

Another "real-looking, intense" war movie that really made no contributions to film making. Avatar pushed technology to new limits with motion capture and cgi and revolutionized 3d.something that's never going away.

Just for example, Avatar made HEAPS more money than Forrest Gump did, it was much more aesthetically pleasing, more action and more excitement...

yea it was but still the story was a very good story but a very old one..the moral was like " we need to take care of the planet and each other like how god made be" but still was entertaining and a very good movie all togeher...it had everything

Actually the first song was originally in The Island, titled, "I Am Lincoln" It's at the very end when they all get out...well...not sure if the song was ORIGINALLY there, but it was definitely before Avatar...it may be easier to find.

I loved avatar's visuals but hated the unoriginal story. Even though I haven't seen the Hurt Locker ( I only knew about it right before the Oscars), I bet that's why it won, it's story.

because im a loser and have nothing else to do than watch movies all day i've seen all of those movies. to be honest the hurt locker wouldnt have been my first choice. it took way to long to get to the story. inglorious bastards would've been my first choice, then avatar, next a seriouse man then up an then preciouse. all the story lines were great and you could tell how hard everyone in the films worked hard

I saw "the hurt locker" yesterday, and I think it got what it deserved... YES: "Avatar" is an Epic Movie, possibly one of the best ever, however so is "the hurt locker" if you havnt seen it you cant say "AVATAR" SHOULD HAVE WON... watch the hurt locker and you wont be dissapointed =D

Hurt Locker was an okay movie, but not an Oscar movie.
I believe the reason why Avatar was ridiculed and did not get the votes stems from the Academies fear that in the future, actors could be replaced by 0s & 1s (CGI).

i can't believe an education was nominated, that movie sucked, the acting was so awkward, the older guy was just creepy and the protaganist was way too naive, almost stupid.

i'm sorry but no, the relationship just seemed so superficial, wasn't really grounded. I felt like they could have made this a good movie but it felt too forced? almost too fast? can't really describe it but it felt like it was too absurd, not realistic ( i know its a movie but it has to be at least somewhat believable for the audience) and her for being so 'smart' was overly naive and rash. And that banana scene was among numerous indicators that he was creepin big time.

and that's exactly why it won, Politics. Don't get me wrong, The Hurt Locker was exciting and a fun watch even if it was pretty inaccurate, it was not a documentary and another Hollywood film so i won't complain there. but really, what was the hurt locker and what did it accomplish? Another "real-looking, intense" war movie that really made no contributions to film making. Avatar pushed technology to new limits with motion capture and cgi and revolutionized 3d.something that's never going away.
