  • he makes that look easy but believe me is NOT!

  • I can do this!!! in my dreams..... T.T

  • VERY, VERY Cool !

  • Lol, easier said than done.

  • how did u play that..??

i've been watching it 4 1 hour and can't figure it out..!!!

  • This is the most pointless instructional segment I've ever seen.

  • Stick tricks were really cool in the 70's and 80's and they're still cool in some competitions especially marching comps (although I think judges frown on it)

Other than that, it's not something I ever cared for, but that's just my opinion.

  • monster drummer...love him....

  • SS colonel Hans Landa. xD

  • say tomas lang..... now say it again.... now keep saying it really really fast and it starts to sound like LEGEND!

  • adik!!!

  • Bobby Jarzombek makes his stick twirl look hes a high school cheerleader spinning a buton

  • Stick throwing and catching is pretty simple with enough practice, but no matter how hard I try I cannot seem to get the twirling down.

  • Sometimes he has an accent, and sometimes he doesn't

  • Back to sonor thomas!

  • lol, its like, "watch the pattern closely.. boom tiss kat tiss boom.... i also like to use stick spins in other patterns like this... BBABSDOAWERGTFOERAHGOREAGHOWREBTGOWABTGOWRBGOABG!!!" lol

  • what if your audience is blind? they cant really see Ur Epic Twirls on Beat =( pritty sick any way though =D * grabs drum sticks and blinds one eye by mistake * =(

  • @kingkia44 They wouldn't be on youtube if that was the case...

  • @kingkia44 Lol oops, misread your comment.

  • FLIP ZE STICK IF U WANTZ ZOO LIVE......ARGHHHHHH

  • AMAZING VID. But if you wanna see something funny, pause the video at 2:10 or 2:11. lol

  • hes talking about Showmanship and you guys are ripping on him for twirling the sticks. Its just for show and u guys sound completely jealous.

  • Haha, yeah. Keep practicing those stick twirls, they sound great in the studio.

  • I hate him.

    (That's me being jealous.)

  • search: Amorphic drum ...( 1st video result ).

    what technique is this??

  • WHAT´S THE NAME OF THAT KIND OF HI-HAT? THAT ARE AT THE LEFT HAND???

  • I can totally do that! You know, without the twirling of the sticks....

  • He's good, very good. That must have took some years to learn...

  • Damn that shit was bad ass! I would love for our drummer to learn that shit! Good job Arnold!

  • "Here's a very simple one..." Oh, right!

  • @niljen92 I know right? I love how he so casual about it all haha.

  • kill the camera man

  • Cool!! Just knocked over the bong...arrgghh!!

  • those twirls sound great in studio

  • @deftonesordie Can't twirl sticks? This is awesome! Thanks Thomas for making this kid jealous of you again, lol

  • @deftonesordie u kno... i wish i could like and dislike ur comment.....instead ill just write this comment...

    FTW.. (@.@).... :)

  • @deftonesordie they also look good live ;)

  • Looks gay.

  • I still dont get why you need 3 hihats

  • Different sounds, I guess?

plus, why not. He doesn't have to spend a penny. haha.

  • Exactly lol

  • Different hi-hat have different size, hence different sound.

  • I bought some of his sticks at drum fest when he ws there, and there so heavyyy to play with i hated them.

  • If God had a band you would be the drummer!!

  • Ohh my God dude.. You sent Me now..

  • he makes more money than everyone you know put together.....though with that attitude i doubt you know many

  • well as a musician I would have thought his focus would be on the music not the money - but then maybe he's just fulfilling the drummer stereotype and ducking out of the whole arty music thing to favour exhibitionism? Don't get me wrong, he's good at it, it's just not very constructive.

also, are you suggesting that because I wouldn't spend my life practicing twirling sticks I have an attitude problem? you don't even know me! how judgmental people can be having just read five words.

  • Comment removed

  • i thing maybe he was talking about you labeling all drummers as shallow and un constructive. duh.

  • He actually probably doesn't make a lot of money. he's friggin great and all, but... he doesn't make like.. popular music that sales like crazy.

  • I swear people make entire sentences up on this. Where did I label drummers as shallow and unconstructive? Where did I say he made a lot of money? All I said was that it was "a waste of time". And seriously, if you can't think of better ways to fill your time than practicing stick twirling then I pity you.

I'll also repeat something else I said since people are glossing over it: "Don't get me wrong, he's good at it." Credit where it's due...

  • Hhahaha... I've spent the best part of two years perfecting my stick trix, just to show off... It's fun...

  • exactly. you can probably impress the shit out of people too. it's not like stick twirling is completely useless - it's cool. people get their asses up in the air over everything

  • @Talwynhawkins

Practicing stick twirling is just as much a waste of time as practicing drumming. You either practice drumming to show off or because you enjoy and want to bring the best out of yourself. It's exactly the same with things like stick twirling. Some people do it because it looks cool (most, actually) and some do it simply because they enjoy it. That being said, I personally don't think it's truly worth it to spend more time stick twirling than drumming, so don't get me wrong.

  • @Shimrra1 You can only be got wrong.

  • que `pena que no toque la bataca sino me pasaria el dia entero haciendo esos malavares ....jjejje

  • looks like it takes ALOT of concintration

  • Just sick!

  • Multi task from hell, Juggling while drumming do that Thomas!!!

  • This guy is a pure exhibitionist, nonetheless. But his beat is purely awesome.

  • @jdfc5 being a musician "is" being an exibitionist by the nature of what they are. Unless you plan on playing in a dark storage shed so as not to ever be "exhibiting" even to yourself. Exibitionist i.e. to Exhibit. And this guys metering is impeccable. I'm Miles an 8 year old drummer from Detroit and an "Exibitionist" of the highest order........

  • is this part of a instruction DVD and if so, whzat is the title?

  • ¡Muy bueno!

  • ohh

    and about this video,

  • @diablodaulton yeahhhh, either way, dood is badass

  • @wildlamaburrito Yea no doubt

  • pawer sial

  • Master.

  • saugudd :-D

  • dojaja

  • I'd give anything to have his rhythmic skills and coordination, but after listening to his works and the collaborations he has done I think he is great, a god, but his playing sounds a bit cold and mechanical. Almost robotic. I guess its because he's a freelancer musician. today's music requires inclination towards electronic kits and sounds (take his crash cymbals: they have almost no pitch at all).

I prefer warmer jazzy sounding drummers. just personal taste.

  • I Know, His Cymbals (when played by themselves) sound terrible but they kind of blend in if you know what i mean. He is a prodigy and there is no denying that.

  • what dvd is this from my friend use to have it but i dont know what its called?

  • good showmanship makes up for a lack of musicality, don't see elvin or tony williams doing stick tricks do you....

  • So you saying Thomas Lang has a lack of musicality?

  • in comparison to other drummers, he seems to be less dynamic. don't get me wrong he's awesome but there is so much more then drumnastics and he is abit of one.

  • @Grillmouth ur fucking stupid. watch some of his other videos. this guy is a god on drums and he also states MANY TIMES that showmanship is irrelevant to playing if it effects ur musical ability. he works in show business pal.

  • ok, i've watched his other videos, then i went and watched elvin jones, don't get me wrong, i love his german accent, but when your a clinician you lose alot of band "playability". and remember this is an opinion based website, wash that sand from yer vagina.

  • @Grillmouth he doesn't lose playability at all, the whole point of why hes so good at what he does....

  • It just adds a little more to the showmanship.

He is a performer, so this would be right down his alley now. It is fairly narrow minded to imply he isn't as talented or established in his drumming skill because he stick twirls.

This being said whether he is worse or not.

  • no he is talented, but when is playing 5 against 4 against 2 with stick twirls and lots of double kick appropriate in music, its like becoming a painter so you can paint lines .001 mm thin while you twirl the brushes around your wang interchanging color in the process, it doesn't add shit to the art.

  • but if your interested in showmanship fair enough, the most famous bands, ie??? tool, say, i like tool, they are pretty damn boring live, but you don't go there to see them wank infront of you...

its the mental state the music puts you in.

  • what do you mean "you don't go there to see them play".....thats exactly why anyone goes to any show anywhere.....too see them play

  • Comment removed

  • I agree completely, i have seen him play a few times and he is awesome every time.

  • In my opinion he is the best drummer in the world,

  • Cool, love it

  • Thomas Lang can do whatever he wants so fuck off and respect the master.

  • thomas fucking lang

  • Fucking people will find ANYTHING to complain about. It's called SHOWMANSHIP! In his instructional videos, he mentions that stick tricks are just something to "spice up" the performance and not something to do if the actual playing suffers. He has fun doing it. People enjoy seeing it (you are the ONLY one who doesn't though). The fact is, you KNOCK what you are jealous of. It's human nature. Your life must be pretty sad to complain about something like this.

  • The fact is, if his playing suffered from the tricks, then YES, you would be correct. But to say that of Thomas, just means that you are about as fucking clueless as they come. To the point that it's actually laughable.

  • no, if your playing suffers then it's completely reprehensible but if you do it in a serious band setting i.e. a jazz band etc then you're a dick. for a shitty rock or pop band I wouldn't expect the "musicians" to know any better so I couldn't care less whether they do it or not

  • I can agree with you on one point. That the music shouldn't suffer because of "stick acrobatics." But there are drummers, and then there is Thomas. At his level, he can flip the sticks and still drum circles around 95% of all drummers. But, I could care less if ANYONE has fun flipping the sticks no matter what music they are playing. Jazz, Rock, Pop....if the music is cool, then so be it.

  • but if they're pissing about with the sticks then it shows that they have the wrong attitude towards music, music is serious, it's not a gimmick. That's not to say music can't be fun!

  • But that's just it...Is there REALLY a wrong attitude toward music? Either the music SUCKS or it's GOOD. What you like, I probably don't. & vice-versa. But if I go to a concert, I want to be entertained. I like the tricks, the jumping around, audience participation, the band REALLY getting into the music. That's fun. I would HATE to see a band where they stand around and do nothing but play. Of course, with certain styles of music, that's expected. But I guess YOUR fun is different than MY fun.

  • if they're pissing about with stick twirling then they're not concentrating 100% on the music and if they're not concentrating 100% on the music, then that shows a lack of respect for the music itself. There's a difference between getting into the music and really feeling it and exercising your ego.

  • This dude is simply the best due his simplicity and charisma!

  • yeah Austria! very good to go snowboarding there!
