@DDDRUUMMINIT Yes but back in the 80's when Lars started playing double bass, the concept was fairly new, at least at the speeds that he played it at. He's not the best drummer, but remember when he first started out, there were no drummers that did that before him, he was essentially starting a trend, obviously not single handedly, but still he was among the first.

It really amazes me how people seem more interested in following the masses when it comes to Lars and just complain about him instead of thinking on their own. Don't you realize what his drumming, as well as the rest of Metallica, has done for every single fucking metal musician out there, as well as those that you say are better? I think some of you need to understand that drumming is NOT all about speed. It's about groove. Sure, there are plenty of drummers faster than Lars. Lars has a groove though which is difficult to match. Back in the early 80's, he was great at keeping the groove of Metallica. I will give another example and thats Bonham. Bonham had groove coming out his ears! Thats what made him great.

Oh....and that clip from The Metal Hammer fest in the early 80's...Lars is on it!

If you compare Lars to his predecessors he plays a LOT of double pedal patterns. Before Lars, Lombardo, Benante, Portnoy and those guys, double bass pedals weren't that common at all. Not even Peart uses double pedals that much, and he can surely play whatever he feels like playing. It's a quesion of generational differences and taste.

What they play/played doesn't require blistering double bass such as Kollias, but Lars inspired thousands of drummers, one being Travis Smith. One of my favorite moments is that one on Cunning Stunts for "Fire", with the pyros blowing up and all that.

Although the audio seems a bit "soft" not as in volume, just a little mushy, but then that's always been with Cunning Stunts... a bit weak and hollow... but still a cool recording.
