Thats because the Octavia was obviously a low output TDI you window licker. 1.9's have five different outputs ranging from 90 VP, 110 VP, 115 PD, 130 PD, 150 PD. Unfortunately the 115, 130 and 150 will rip your little 1.3 piece of Jap scrap to pieces. Mine is a 150bhp output remapped to 190bhp and that so called Octavia was obviously some TDI 90.
@panos323 TDI's might all have 1.9 litre engines but they aren't all the same in performance, they have colour coded badges on the boot to tell you the power output in red letters. It clearly shows you know nothing about German cars and if you are going to be anti-VW you can spare a moment to get your facts right first. @panos323 The TDI 110 Octavia is only a VP injection and its dragging a bigger, heavier body then a Corolla so the acceleration and power/weight ratio of it is the equivalent performance of a TDI 90 Golf so its no surprise there. It left me feeling disappointed in Vtec and I expected it to be faster than that. There are plenty of video's of 1.9 TDI Leons out doing Type R EP3's and I will gladly show you them because you seem to be awfully mislead.

Everytime I caught it up it kept lifting away to 140 from 80 miles per hour like a Shuttle on liftoff. It was just too fast... Overtook a Skyline... Overtook a Focus RS... Overtook an Evo! I couldn't catch it!!! If thats the 1.3 god knows what the 1.6 is like. I'll have to watch those 80/90 horsepower jet-rockets in future. They are lethal!!!
@panos323 A friend of mine had an Evo 400FQ, before that he had a Corolla 1.3 like yours. He downgraded from the 1.3 to the FQ because the acceleration on the 1.3 was almost dangerous. Too fast for normal road use, one foot down and it could warp you into losing your licence. Someone offered him a test drive of a Corolla 1.6 and he refused to drive it. He said he got behind the wheel of it and vomited before he even started it. He daid the power was rated the equivalent of 4x Boeing 747's.

I drove behind one once and the exhaust thrust coming out of that brutal 1.3 exhaust pipe was like a 747 jetblast, it almost lifted up my car with the wind pressure. So powerful... I have to say this... I had a Honda Civic EP3 Type R trying to do this to my 1.9 TDI Leon around a tight roundabout today leading onto a dual carridgeway, the guy in the Honda just couldn't grab me. Even with the Vtec screaming away behind I simply snatched away from his gubby mits on hard torque and ended up making him look very very silly for trying to be an ego fuelled cock. I was expecting Vtec to be a rocket but from my experience of racing a fanboy cock in a TDI 1.9 it really isn't...
@panos323 Oh you'll find a Volkswagen Golf that will bite you on the arse like a bulldog to a postman one day... Just give it time. I wouldn't be too complaicant about it, one day you'll drop a few cogs in your Corolla to overtake the usual VW Golf and you will find the Golf stays in the same place no matter how fast you go. I wouldn't underestimate them, my 1.9 TDI Leon has stayed in the same place on VVT and Vtec engines lots of times and caught them out. Beware!!!

@panos323 I hate petrol cars anyway so I really don't care for petrol Golfs. The 1.9 TDI's are much better units then FSI's you can do so much more with them. I will be fair though, Japanese make better petrol engines but Germans make better diesels. If I am buying a Diesel I'll buy a german engine, if I am buying a petrol I'll buy a Japanese engine.

@panos323 My Leon TDI FR is remapped to around 190bhp and does 0-60 in around 7.5-8.0 seconds. However much you find it hard to believe the VTi B16A2's/MB6 Civics won't touch it and in gear it will snatch away from an EP3 Type R and it won't let them overtake that easily. Vtecs struggle like hell to overtake and I kept a Honda Accord Type R at bay. My TDI does make it a problem for Vtecs just because they reach 8,000 revs it doesn't mean they effortlessly overtake everything.

It's maybe not as fast as most Honda's(Bash here VW fan boys, I've owned and read about VW's and they are slower) but they are far more fun to drive. You can't compare the handling of a GTI to any Honda. Never saw any Civic stick to the ground in curves where my GTI would just pass at 60+ mph. Also the comfort of the GTI is better than Honda. So you have the choose between semi-lexury and handling or just plain speed.You know which one i'll take

@jordanghost13 Most EP3 drivers drive round all day just searching the roads to do battle with other people. One clip of an EP3 overtaking a Golf just doesn't mean anything. I've lost count of how many EP3's I've kacked in my 1.9 TDI Leon and left them completely unable to overtake and mines a TDI 1.9. Type R, nice engine but don't get too over enthusiastic about them overtaking Golf related cars. The engines you least suspect can be the ones to bite you on the arse the most.

first of all the honda started first and golf later... second: this is a new honda civic and this golf is 1995 soo it's about 10-15 years of difference... honda haves 30-40 hp more then the golf... when there is a new r32 then they take the new honda or maybe the old one with mods... this golf is stock and it is a big difference in hp and years ;) take the new gti and new civic type r ;) and look who's the winner ;)

well, I had an '02 4door EX and only spent 3 months with it because it felt unsafe at high speeds...all mechanics were OK, wheels and tires OK...it just did not felt safe and quite stiff enough for my taste...I had a Skoda Octavia TDi '03 and it felt rock solid...it may be your appreciation that you feel safer in a Civic...good for you...that is very subjective...I respect your Honda point of view and that you dislike VW's...good!

Honda is a very reliable car, I can't argue with that...the new Accord is a very cool car...plus I'm thinking of getting a CR-V next year...I'd prefer a VW Tiguan since it has a more solid and stable feel, BUT it is smaller in size and has a higher price tag...I'm 6'3" so that may be my best option...
I'd love to get an '11 GTI but I am quite aware of the high maintenance costs and need an SUV...

The o2m gearbox is stronger than the vr6 12v and that vr6 12v has held in my car from rolling off the factory lines back in 1995 and still going strong, the only reason it is getting taken apart is it is getting turbo'd and a few tdi gears are going in 4th and 5th.

Thats because the Octavia was obviously a low output TDI you window licker. 1.9's have five different outputs ranging from 90 VP, 110 VP, 115 PD, 130 PD, 150 PD. Unfortunately the 115, 130 and 150 will rip your little 1.3 piece of Jap scrap to pieces. Mine is a 150bhp output remapped to 190bhp and that so called Octavia was obviously some TDI 90.

@panos323 TDI's might all have 1.9 litre engines but they aren't all the same in performance, they have colour coded badges on the boot to tell you the power output in red letters. It clearly shows you know nothing about German cars and if you are going to be anti-VW you can spare a moment to get your facts right first. @panos323 The TDI 110 Octavia is only a VP injection and its dragging a bigger, heavier body then a Corolla so the acceleration and power/weight ratio of it is the equivalent performance of a TDI 90 Golf so its no surprise there. @panos323 I really hate to get a pin and burst your bubble about Vtecs capabilities but unfortunately the man in the Vtec EP3 couldn't out do me in gear and it didn't have this sudden extra burst of power which acted like a rocket jet. It left me feeling disappointed in Vtec and I expected it to be faster than that. There are plenty of video's of 1.9 TDI Leons out doing Type R EP3's and I will gladly show you them because you seem to be awfully mislead.

@panos323 I had a really good day until my remapped 1.9 TDI was left unable to catch up with this 1.3 Toyota today. It was like a rocket! Everytime I caught it up it kept lifting away to 140 from 80 miles per hour like a Shuttle on liftoff. It was just too fast... Overtook a Skyline... Overtook a Focus RS... Overtook an Evo! I couldn't catch it!!! If thats the 1.3 god knows what the 1.6 is like. I'll have to watch those 80/90 horsepower jet-rockets in future. They are lethal!!!

@panos323 A friend of mine had an Evo 400FQ, before that he had a Corolla 1.3 like yours. He downgraded from the 1.3 to the FQ because the acceleration on the 1.3 was almost dangerous. Too fast for normal road use, one foot down and it could warp you into losing your licence. Someone offered him a test drive of a Corolla 1.6 and he refused to drive it. He said he got behind the wheel of it and vomited before he even started it. He daid the power was rated the equivalent of 4x Boeing 747's.

I drove behind one once and the exhaust thrust coming out of that brutal 1.3 exhaust pipe was like a 747 jetblast, it almost lifted up my car with the wind pressure. So powerful... Now putting in a 1.3T in a Toyota Corrosion is plain silly, the jet-blast from the exhaust would cause tsunami's if you park it with the rear end facing the sea. What are you thinking? Thats just plain crazy you can't do that!

I have to say this... I had a Honda Civic EP3 Type R trying to do this to my 1.9 TDI Leon around a tight roundabout today leading onto a dual carridgeway, the guy in the Honda just couldn't grab me. Even with the Vtec screaming away behind I simply snatched away from his gubby mits on hard torque and ended up making him look very very silly for trying to be an ego fuelled cock. I was expecting Vtec to be a rocket but from my experience of racing a fanboy cock in a TDI 1.9 it really isn't...

I wouldn't be too complaicant about it, one day you'll drop a few cogs in your Corolla to overtake the usual VW Golf and you will find the Golf stays in the same place no matter how fast you go. I wouldn't underestimate them, my 1.9 TDI Leon has stayed in the same place on VVT and Vtec engines lots of times and caught them out. Beware!!!

I will be fair though, Japanese make better petrol engines but Germans make better diesels. If I am buying a Diesel I'll buy a german engine, if I am buying a petrol I'll buy a Japanese engine.

@panos323 My Leon TDI FR is remapped to around 190bhp and does 0-60 in around 7.5-8.0 seconds. However much you find it hard to believe the VTi B16A2's/MB6 Civics won't touch it and in gear it will snatch away from an EP3 Type R and it won't let them overtake that easily. Vtecs struggle like hell to overtake and I kept a Honda Accord Type R at bay. My TDI does make it a problem for Vtecs just because they reach 8,000 revs it doesn't mean they effortlessly overtake everything.

The EP3 is only a Vtec engine its hardly going to give the Type R this sudden Twin Turbo in gear Porsche acceleration. It's maybe not as fast as most Honda's(Bash here VW fan boys, I've owned and read about VW's and they are slower) but they are far more fun to drive. You can't compare the handling of a GTI to any Honda. Never saw any Civic stick to the ground in curves where my GTI would just pass at 60+ mph. Also the comfort of the GTI is better than Honda. So you have the choose between semi-lexury and handling or just plain speed.You know which one i'll take

@jordanghost13 Most EP3 drivers drive round all day just searching the roads to do battle with other people. One clip of an EP3 overtaking a Golf just doesn't mean anything. I've lost count of how many EP3's I've kacked in my 1.9 TDI Leon and left them completely unable to overtake and mines a TDI 1.9. Type R, nice engine but don't get too over enthusiastic about them overtaking Golf related cars. The engines you least suspect can be the ones to bite you on the arse the most.

Don't compare an NSX to any VW...different cars, different HP, different everything....
and yes the GTI has been in the market since '76 and it is a legend...to make a stock civic beat a GTI you need to tune it good...
never compare a ricer to any european car...they lack the security feel and the stiffness on pavement...in a Civic you feel that wind will just blow you off after 120 km/h...
it is my point of view...you love your civics...fine by me....you hate VW's fine by me also...

@superfestiva what is the difference beetween a NSX engine and a VW r32 engine?vw as more 0.200l and less 40hp...i'm shure that you never ride in a civic,i use to have a seat leon(same chassis and engine than a golf 4) and now i have a 2001 civic vti and damm no way vw cars have better security feel than a civic,at 200km/h in my leon you ear the wind entering in the car and all plastics seems to go away in the civic at 200km/h the wind is less louder and the only loud sound is from engine...

well, I had an '02 4door EX and only spent 3 months with it because it felt unsafe at high speeds...all mechanics were OK, wheels and tires OK...it just did not felt safe and quite stiff enough for my taste...I had a Skoda Octavia TDi '03 and it felt rock solid...it may be your appreciation that you feel safer in a Civic...good for you...that is very subjective...I respect your Honda point of view and that you dislike VW's...good!

@superfestiva i don't dislike vw they have some models that are cool,all luxury and good quality but compare to new hondas like accord,cr-v,they have the same or less luxury and comfort and honda still make sports car with amazing engines and reliable like hell.there was a time that vw had in the top cause all jap cars didn't had luxury just power and performance but rigth now jap cars are in the same level in luxury but still in higer level in performance,vw need to make cars like the old times

Honda is a very reliable car, I can't argue with that...the new Accord is a very cool car...plus I'm thinking of getting a CR-V next year...I'd prefer a VW Tiguan since it has a more solid and stable feel, BUT it is smaller in size and has a higher price tag...I'm 6'3" so that may be my best option...
I'd love to get an '11 GTI but I am quite aware of the high maintenance costs and need an SUV...
I really dislike the Civic, the type R and SiR are fast, but I just dont feel safe in them

I drove a Mk4 GTI and believe me, the stock transmissions sucks, de R32 transmission sucks even harder cause it's the 6 speed gearbox.
VW stands fot shitty transmissions..
I now drive a civic Vtec with 250thousand km. Never had to change anytthing expensive. My golf on the other hand.. :s

We work closely with many VW dealers in the region, so I know what I'm talking about.
And you have a point that the way you drive the vehicle will make it brake faster.. But it still is a fact. If more then 25% of the gearboxes of a mk4 golf go broken under 150000km than you can call it a shitty gearbox!

@torfsstijn dont like the mk4, im a golf lover but the mk4 is the ugliest one.... i have the mk3.
The o2m gearbox is stronger than the vr6 12v and that vr6 12v has held in my car from rolling off the factory lines back in 1995 and still going strong, the only reason it is getting taken apart is it is getting turbo'd and a few tdi gears are going in 4th and 5th.
25% is a little steep i think, if you google mk4 gearbox... *nothing* so 25% i dont think so,
