In this recording these two greats playing with variation of bols, you should listen to it carefully even then if you cannot realize it, I will explain to you bit by bit.
Only Ustad THirakwa and Ustad Sheik Dawood had the proper timber and "ravish" in their Tabla to do proper justice with gats. They were rare gems indeed.

The difference is that Ahmedjan is playing the gat in the lav whereas Dawood is playing on the kinar. Thus Dawood rendition can at best be a phoney.

It's amazing. Dawood khansaheb's recording, I believe, is from the "Drums of India" series.
And as Thirakhwa Khansaheb used to say - about this particular bol - "khaas tabla hai wo, poorab ka, jo kehte hai!"
