but to be honest... I think it was quite lucky Decca said no... 'cause otherwise they probalby wouldn't meet George, Martin... and then you can think yourself..
In '62, The Beatles absolutely set Britain and the World on fire as they released Hits after Hits - and there was no stopping them. Poor me, I had to head off to Germany for my first Army posting - but with always a song in my heart !! Surprise, surprise, when I got to Hamburg, people there claimed they invented The Beatles. True in some ways, as The Beatles played as resident band at The Star Club in St Pauli before relocating back to Liverpool.
TURNING DOWN THE BEATLES! XD That's just sort of the musical equivalent of trading Babe Ruth or telling Shakespeare to do his palys at his own theatre, eh?
Also: RINGO FOREVER! He doesn't get enough credit for what he gave!
John, Paul, and George were such big artists and came to have big egos, you NEED a Ringo who'll act as the glue adn keep things light and funny...moody Pete Best never did that...
I love how at 1:44 when paul is singing Italian Opera stylr "Beame Mucho' John gives him an amazed look like even he was surprised at what Paul could do

It is a treat to watch a band grow and improve and catch on with the public. I am watching it happen right now with my son and his bands. They mix and match and change lineups until they find the right chemistry...the beatles (by far my favorite entertainment act of all time...i was born the same week Love Me Do was released...serve as the ultimate example of this.
The Pete Best syndrome happens a lot. It did in Nirvana's first drummer too, who was on their first album. Then Dave Grohl, like Ringo, became the necessary new drummer, and became the famous one.
The rare concert footage in this clip from the Cavern (which I believe is the only film footage of the Beatles playing at the Cavern) was shot on Aug. 22, 1962. Exactly, seven years later to the day on Aug. 22, 1969, the Beatles held their final ever photo shoot as a group. Linda McCartney shot pictures of the Beatles as they stood in the tall grass. They had very long hair by then. John and George were wearing hats. They lived a lifetime and achieved so much between those two moments.
I don't think he did, actually. Maybe, at the time. Who wouldn't? But he went on and raised a family and had his own group. Did very well for himself, I hear.
Just think, 4 kids born in a lower class area during WWII heard different kinds of music, absorbed it all & practiced playing & covering songs they heard, wrote a few of their own, played at little dives, then better places, learned recording, tried to sell a few records, became very close & took on the world, writing songs that are even at this moment being enjoyed by millions, many hearing certain Beatles records for the 1st time & loving it. Tho2 are gone, their music will be played forever
Can you imagiine all of the people who said no to these fellas and kicked themselves when they made it. Little Richard, Dick Clark, Roy Orbison, and of course Dick Rowe. I wonder if he got sacked after this.

Ringo - the most under-rated drummer of all-time in my opinion. If you want to hear why they made the change, get the 1st Anthology CD and listen to the "Love Me Do" demo with Best playing - its all over the map - rhumba beat, country beat, rock beat - and the timing was awful too.
