@stefanttw That's "Walk Don't Run" by The Ventures. Tommy frequently throws in another song in the middle of "Classical Gas" to break things up and "Walk Don't Run" is the one he plays most often.
@stefanttw@stefanttw That's "Walk Don't Run" by The Ventures. Tommy frequently throws in another song in the middle of "Classical Gas" to break things up and "Walk Don't Run" is the one he plays most often.
he uses the left hand to cover the strings directly over the sound hole of the guitar, muting the strings with that pitch (you can mute anywhere on the fretboard but wouldnt get the same sounds) then he uses his right hand to quickly strum upwards from first string to sixth string. give the guitar body a couple of taps in time with the beat and keep playing. =]
Twiztedshot: Tommy's guitar is a custom-made Maton EBG808 with the APMic pickup system. It is now re-sold known as the Maton EBG808TE. Although it is not a replica of Tommy's guitar, its pretty damn close and Maton will even adjust each one to Tommy's specifications.
i know and how cool is the bit where he wacks his guitar before taht, like in this version he does it soo like whoa.., and at 2:46 as well OMG crazy bastard
No doubt Tommy is one of the best players on the planet. However, I much prefer the original Mason Williams verson. Tommy's version is loud, flamboyant, and what would be expected by a master showman.
oh shit he is like amzingly insaneley disturbingly good, hes like the jesus of music, or i dont know like you know one of those guys who makes a change, lol not really but hes so damn good i could...i dont know
Let´s face it folks, he´s a gift to say the least. And that is so nice for him.. and us, cause we are blessed with the opportunity to listen to everything he does!
We have to take our hats off for this guy,I´m a 100 % sure that he has worked VERY hard to be able to do what he does so amazingly good.
All my best to you, Tommy! and to all of you other people out there !!! God bless you all!
when he hits a harmonic he pushes down on the body of the guitar and up on the headstock or peghead.....creates a whammy bar dive effect...Randy Rhoads did it all the time
yeah I tried it but cant seem to do it as much as him. so basically...i have to hit my harmonic, do I have to push my guitar away from me on the headstock and towards me on the body of the guit? Cause I notice he pushes the guitar away from him and kinda makes a big circle...or is it really up on the headstock and down on the body?
All you gotta do is push down hard on the body of the guitar and push up on the headstock...just be careful...lots of people break their instruments buy doing this...be gentle and try not to do it to much if you have a bolt on neck (if your playin electric).
Also when you hit the harmonic you gotta act fast.....its a hard trick to pull off and do well...I haven't even perfected it yet
So what if he's a showoff; I say flaunt it. He is one of the most talented guitarists (of his style) I've ever seen. I mean, he taught guitar lessons at 12, and he never even got proper lessons himself.
ok this is the final say about this man and his verson of the this song he is a god and plays it how it should be played with heart passion and makes it a good fucking tune
you're all morons! He is simply getting so exited when he plays that he cant contain himself. This is a trait of a true artist. He could easily keep perfect time if he wasn't so exited about the music and pleasing the audience, so give this guy a break. You don't have to like his style of music but stop critisizing an artists live performance to the point that you forget what music is supposed to do. It's supposed to be entertainment. It is supposed to be enjoyed on a number of levels.
Honestly, I think he is extremely sloppy. His timimg is all over the place. I do not think he is the "best freakin' guitarist around today". Look at Andy Mckee or Phil Keggy That is talent there.
all you retards bashing tommy...realize that you will never be half as good as him...EVER! so stop being jealous and go hate on the backstreet boys you f'in losers!

showboater... half the skill of any instrumentalist is in the patience to play something properly, at the correct tempo, with the correct dynamics and without embellishment. He's just doing what he knows best, showing off, without doing the beautiful piece of music justice.
are you serious?!?! yeah hes showing off...but with reason...hes the best freakin guitarist around today! maybe u dont think he does classical gas justice...but u cant say hes not amazing...and most people would agree that he does classical gas just fine.
u obviously dont even know who tommy emmanuel is n00b. his song questions os the most beautiful paiece of music ive every heard, and classical gas has no dynamics in its original form, and tommy has added them in and given the music shape and colour for the solo guitarist. plus, he wrote half of thw way he plays the song, and he is the performer, so he realy has more say on how he plays his version than u do, do u even play an insturment?
@leginald alright this post of yours is 3 years old, but it still makes you one of the dumbest people on the interwebz. blaming tommy he is a showboater, i saw him life twice and i listend to his music and played his music allot so i know what real skills are XD. you really have to think twice before you say something like this bullshit :P
@leginald he is not showing off...he is revelling in the joy of his talent...he would be showing off if he had a scowel like that yngie guy (The shredder). This guy is like CHUCK..who woke up and found out he could play guitar..and is just loving it
@leginald You stupid fuck!, you one of the minute percentage of people who criticize his enthusiam. Good on him! he worked his way from the bottom in Australia and was acclaimed by Chet Atkins himself as one of the most brilliant and greatest guitarists of our time. I don't know it speaks for itself Chet Atkins the great or Leginald the wank
I was there too... perfect night for a concert! I only wish he had kept playing instead of bringing Johnny Gimble on... no offense Johnny, but I drove 3 hours to hear Tommy!

The harmonic bend he does at 2:44 is the best I've seen him do it. So crisp and clear, almost exactly like an electric guitar. TE rulz. ^_^

Such an amazing instrumental, his version is classic in its own right! Check out my version (on my channel) if you have time! Cheers.

people calling him a show-off should remember that not everyones a player. Most people just want a show, he brings it with massive chops.
