  • Ha-ha, and they still sell Fingerpower books at a store called Piano Trends in Crystal Lake. It's the nightmare all over again, along with the quote, "I'm going to turn you into a concert pianist!" THAT was the worst part when I kept wanting to learn pop and jazz!

  • @Multi80schick Ah, Crystal Lake - I used to live in Hoffman Estates many years ago, not too far from there. There was a sheet music store near my house with what seemed like every transcription in the world. Don't know if it's still there or not, but it was great.

  • @pianojohn113 There are a few there, but I've only been living here 7 months, getting used to the lay of the land. There's a lot more down here than the hick county I'm from. Have to check out more!

  • Thanx. I'm busy putting downloaded flashcards from Jermaine together to learn chords faster. Also bought an Elton John and Peanuts songbook the other night. Getting two volumes of 70s songs as well. Anything beats the John W. Schaum stuff I was taught and, amazingly enough, I see it's still out there!

  • @Multi80schick I think I still have my Schaum pieces from the 1960s as well as a few John Thompson books. The JT stuff was great through Grade 2, then rapidly got boring after that. :-)

  • A great song from MMT, and one of my faves. Thanx, John!

  • @Multi80schick You're welcome, Multi80schick. Still trying to get those Zombies chords for you! :-)

  • HI Ah PianoJohn Could You Do any Monkees Songs you pick Because i can't find any Thanks :) I love Your lessons

  • Have you listened to this piece you've just played?

My mother always told me that if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all. What was that?????

  • Hi John, I know you are working on Bowies Oh you Pretty things, but could you possibly do a tutorial for Slades How Does It Feel, as its got a lot of piano in it and I would love to learn to how to play it.

    Cheers ..Mary xx

  • @chalyminx Thanks for the suggestion, Mary! So many good songs, so little time... :-)

  • Could you please do "my sweet lord" by george harrison, or "nobody told me" by john lennon?

P.S. You should start doing "the doors" music too, it would start a bigger fan base.

  • @wakawl They made great use out of that one.

  • If i may ask, how are you suppose to move your fingers in each chord? I know that you dont hit them all all at the same time so how do you go about play say the first chord that is A E A/C E A?

  • @OutcastAnimations For this song, you play the notes all together, so you don't really need to move your fingers within each chord.

  • @pianojohn113 ok thank you. it just didnt sound like it and you said it had a bounce to it so i was a little confuesed.

  • @OutcastAnimations The "bounce" actually comes from syncopating the beat.. the right hands chord is played just a tiny bit ahead of the left hand, but all the ntoes of the chord are played together.

  • And by the way this song is for my moms birthday because she loves the beatles!

  • This is why I subscribed to you instead of some other piano tutorial guy. Your piano playing is amazing and because of your tutorials I'm almost as good as this one guy in my class who took piano for 7 years when I've never had music lessons in my life! The other people don't know what their talking about most of the time and they make it sound to modern to be a beatles song. But you keep the classic ring to it and at the same time make it easier to play than the complicated but genius beatles

  • @Elyonia679 Very glad you like them, thanks. And happy birthday to your mom! :-)

  • In the first verse where you have it going C. G. A7. Paul actually plays the C for 4 beats and then goes to the A7. Then on the second verse he changes it and adds in that G and plays the C for 2 beats, the G for two beats, then the A7. But other than that the chords sound perfect. Good job man!

  • Thanks again. Another great tune to play

  • you should put captions to videos for Latinos like me

  • the f major7 can be also an Am/F right?

  • @xmotoFF Yes, in fact an FMaj7 is simply an Am chord with an F in the bass.

  • @pianojohn113

John, Sorry I write here. I just began using YouTube signed in.

I just want to say what you are doing is the greatest thing man.

You are helping people live happier. I'm so glad to see there are so many people that share the gift of music with all of us. Keep up the good work. It would be great to see something like this for "Just the two of us". Thanks again....Alex

  • @alexpower21 Thank you, Alex, I appreciate the kind words. Very glad my videos have been helpful to you. I'll try to get to "Two Of Us" soon.

  • @pianojohn113 oh i love that song!!! if you did that song i would just be....well maybe im amazed. LOL xD

  • Great Quality

  • Pianojohn, as an Australian living in the USA, I'm always really impressed when I find someone here who appreciates Crowded House. You're totally right about "Not the Girl You Think You Are" sounding like early Beatles. Reminds of their stuff c.1963-64 when they were developing more complex harmony parts. The 3/4 time signature on the CH song also feels like some of Lennon's songs from that period. I wonder how you would arrange the CH song for piano. I'm guessing you'd play the melody part.

  • @necklines Yep, John Lennon loved the waltz time.. he even toyed with a 3/4 signature on "I'll Be Back," but scrapped the idea when he found it was "too hard to sing." Great stuff. On CH songs, especially "Not The Girl...", the melody would take the lead in the RH most of the time.. I don't normally play a melody line, but their songs almost require it!

  • @pianojohn113 Yeah, I wonder why John was drawn to 3/4. Could be he just liked Waltzes! I think it opens a different way of phrasing his vocals. He always seemed to explore musical possibilities that forced him to break old habits. Same with Paul. One reason they started writing more stuff on piano. I might have to go back and re-read Revolution in the Head. It might be fun to see you do a short video tracking the Beatles musical progress a la Ian Mcdonald. Wouldn't have to be heavy on theory.

  • Another great tutorial from pianojohn. The man is a legend. Hearing this just on piano made me realize the opening "riff" of this song sounds exactly like the beginning of Crowded House's "I Feel Possessed". I wonder if it's one of those subconscious things. Pianojohn: any chance you could do a Crowded House song one of these days? Would love to hear "You're Not the Girl You Think You Are" transposed to piano

  • @necklines Hey, good call on "I Feel Possessed," I hadn't thought of that.. I think it's even the same notes. Re CH, I've played "Don't Dream It's Over," but haven't tried "You're Not the Girl.." yet. Love that song, though. Reminds me of some early Beatles tunes with the acoustic guitar and the harmonies. I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

  • I've been waiting for a tutorial on this for so long. Thanks so much!

  • So what's your next amazing tutorial.

  • Pianojohn, thanks so much! I can almost play every video of yours;p I've had lessons for about eight years, and I've been playing the piano for ten years or so. I don't find it is difficult and everyone is really impressed when I play a Beatles song.

  • @LauraEvon That's great, nice job on learning all those songs! Keep impressing them with your talent! :-)

  • Hi John, not so easy ... but really fun to play! I wish I could have your sense of jumping notes on the keyboard. And as ever, John, thanks a million for posting the Beatles songs exactly the way they sound on the album's. Take care, Catherine

  • @cath901 Thanks, Catherine, you're the best! Hope you're well. :-)

  • Hey John, thaks for tutorial videos... I've watched a lot your videos... and I'm begginer in Piano... what song of Beatles, would you recommend to start with piano ? Thanks again man!

    Cheers

  • @fboriani No problem! Try "Hey Jude" as a first song, if you're a true beginner.. another one you might like is "Imagine." Those are probably the two songs that are easiest to learn in this group.

  • @fboriani

Hello, yes indeed, Imagine is the easiest to play. I did take the piano back some time ago, and by chance, got to find John in YouTube. Since then, I learned almost 35 plays of the Beatles... All of them, I never would have thought I could play in my whole life! Guess what: even Lady Madonna!! Another easy tune you can try from John is "Real Love" (one of John Lennon's posthumous). Enjoy! Catherine

  • Thanks again John Ive learned piano so fast with your help. I now see the Songwriting secrets which are like a common thread in most Beatles songs. You are an Awesome teacher dude!

  • Thank you John, I'd be struggling to play some of these songs without your tutorials.

You have a happy knack of expressing them perfectly.

I have learned several Beatles numbers thanks to you.... You are a star :)

  • Hey John , what a great melody this song has where did Paul get it all from ? No amount of tuition can teach you that it's just there & it never ceases to amaze me . Cheers for another brilliant Beatles song really appreciate it .

  • @pauljonesesquire I think Paul was really influenced by his father's knowledge of jazz.. he seemed to pick it up along the way. How people write songs like that is beyond me.

  • O.Ou

  • PIANO JOHN UR AMAZING AT PIANO... THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING ALL MY FAV BEATLES SONGS...

  • @miiskool hey i was gonna say that oh well

  • @smilingemovlogs LOL anyone who watches pianojohn will say that.. Hey just for fun, what is everyones favorite beatles song??

  • @miiskool my fave song would either be i am the walrus or a day in the life

  • Great tutorial as usual! thank you John :)

Very simple but very nice song indeed! Every time I play this song my mom comes into the room and sings along! (sometimes it's too much but I can deal with that somehow :))

I specifically love the break with the Am-F-G-C-E fill, just Amazing.

Thank you again from Jonathan, Tel Aviv- Israel :)

  • @RyonI21 That's great, I'm glad your mom likes it too. :-) You're right, that small bridge in the middle is fantastic.

  • may i suggest that you do a tutorial on feelin' all right? (joe cocker)

  • For those who want to hear more piano that was buried away in the final mix, go to watch?v=MblrhHORPRc. Quite nice, it is.

  • I am having a blast with this song. I haven't had this much fun on piano in a great while. I like the songs that are as much fun to sing along to as they are to play. This is one of the rare ones I can do that with. In the beginning I just play the chords flat with no shaking or melody as I sing with solid chords. Then I start the melody after I have my first 'Mother should know' go around. Thanks again Pianojohn! Beatles and Billy Joel for LIFE! :-)

  • @dormanbenton Yeah, I put this song with Paul's "Honey Pie" as one of the really fun pieces to sing along to. It has an old-school rhythm to it that's unique in modern pop music.

  • Hi PianoJohn..Really love your stuff, I've learned a lot, so thank you! I know you're busy doing a lot of Beatles stuff, but I would love to learn this song, I think it's great...what do you think?

  • This is an underrated Beatles song.

  • Will you ever do any Ben Folds Five tutorials?

  • Thank you so much!!!

  • I cannot lie when I say that this is my favourite song on Magical Mystery Tour, and I'm very pleased you've done a tutorial on it! It's a wonderful number for the piano, and it's one of the lesser known Beatles song; I'm glad it's getting the attention it deserves!

  • @CFodderESG I agree, it's a great song and works very well on the piano.

  • another wonderful tutorial by pianojohn113

  • Finally!!! Ahhh i've been waiting all summer for this! So happy

  • already learned it, pianojohn thank you so much!

  • this is so awesome! i must learn this song! thank fr the short breif post

    ~#9 Fan

  • They rhythm in this one seems a little bit difficult to pin down.... Is that just me; am I imagining that? Do you have any advice for that, or is it just a case of practice and repetition making perfect?

  • @Aervane The rhythm is slightly syncopated, meaning that the eighth notes are tied from one measure to the next. So the lyrics are sung just ahead of the downbeat, which is when you play the chords on the piano. Usually it's just a matter of practicing, as your hands need to get used to playing the notes slightly after the words are sung.

  • @pianojohn113 Thank you! I'll give it a try.

  • When I saw you had posted this, I squealed so loud!!!!! Thank you!! I can NOT wait to learn this! :D

  • My fuckin god your piano playing is amazing. *0*

  • Da da dada da da da dada dada dada da da

    your Mother should know

    very nice!!

  • Man, this is my FAVORITE song of all time, but I don't quite have the ability to play it yet. I'm definitely coming back once my skill has increased. :)

  • Yeah! I've been waiting on this one!

  • Wow, great tutorial!

  • why are all your videos so good?

  • Thanks, everyone, I'm glad I finally got this one posted. I appreciate the comments. For those waiting for "Hey Bulldog," check my note on the main channel page.

  • Awesome job, hope I can pick it up soon.

  • Excellent...Paul was a pretty good self taught piano player

  • @Bellyflops2 actually, paul had a few small lessons from his father when he was in his early years of grade school, and George Martin taught him a few things during the early Beatle days (around Please Please Me and With The Beatles).

  • Great one again John! Fab!

  • Great one again!

Do you reckon you can do "Hey Bulldog" next?

  • @cong404040 YEAH HEY BULLDOG

  • Hey Bulldog would be great...

  • thank you so much for these...i'm just now learning piano and these are invaluable! Been playing guitar for 7 years and just now picked up a midi keyboard cause of The Beatles! so thank you again!

  • That was great thanks for the help :)

  • i dont think i know this song...

  • @grandexandi oh no, i do

  • Yay! I've been waiting for this! I plan to have a video response by... next Sunday? on this - I think that's achievable =D thanks for the video as always!

  • Thanks John I performed hey Jude infront of a large audience from learning it in your tutorial, worked great and had good fun if it weren't for you I'd never have learnt that or any other songs you put up

  • John, please don't make us wait this long for a tutorial again!!! Thank You!!

  • oh man I gotta learn this AGAIN now haha! This version's great, thanks so much for doing these. I've always wanted to learn the piano but didn't know how to approach it until I discovered your videos.

  • Welcome back, John! As I expected, the wait was very well worth it! Thanks for this.

  • This is the first video on my subscriptions list that has ever elicited a shouted, "YES!" as a response upon first viewing.

  • @Aervane I did the same thing!!!!!

  • Yes! I've been waiting for this song! :)
